Inception - Best Movie I've seen this year ;).

I have a few questions, but I didn't see what all the controversy about this movie was all about when it came to the ending. It was kinda left for the viewer to decipher what actually happened at the end, and to me it looked like Leo never actually made it out of Limbo since his kids were wearing the exact same thing he's been imagining for the entire movie. It looked like his new "reality" was life after his wife. Some may make an argument otherwise because of the top almost toppling over, but I think the kids give away what happened. If that is not what people were on about when arguing over this move (I didn't want to spoil it for myself so I never read much about it), then I don't know what could have been the big controversial issue.

It has it's moments, but IT IS NOTHING LIKE THE PREVIEWS SUGGEST.
they didn't get to the actual dinner until the last 20 minutes of the 1.5hr movie and it didn't make sense that the analyst guy would let his situation continue to get worse in the ways that it did.

5/10 (bonus point for the mice collages)

INCEPTION SPOILERS

to me it looked like Leo never actually made it out of Limbo since his kids were wearing the exact same thing he's been imagining for the entire movie.

Actually, they're wearing slightly different clothes than in his memory.  They look very similar but they're not identical.

Something else interesting:  Two sets of child actors are listed on IMDb as playing Cobb's children.  The ages listed for the children are 2 years apart from each other.  I haven't yet determined whether the older kids were used in the last shot or if they were just the voices Cobb was talking to on the phone at the beginning of the movie--the children on the phone certainly sounded older than the kids in Cobb's memory.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
Based on "The Supergirl from Krypton" which is part of one of my favorite comic books (and, coincidentally, the last one I read that was new at the time). I stopped reading once Jeff Loeb stopped writing. Anyway, I liked it. Significantly better than Doomsday. I liked the art; they at least attempted to keep Michael Turner's style intact. The voice acting is pretty strong as well and they were able to retain Tim Daly as Superman, Kevin Conroy as Batman (the movie could have used more Batman even though Supergirl is basically the star), and Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman. Summer Glau did a good job as Supergirl though I would have preferred that they brought back Nicholle Tom, who voiced Supergirl in the Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League/Unlimited. I guess that Supergirl design was Linda Danvers rather than Kara Zor-El but still...

Anyway, this could have used more character development and probably at least an extra 15 minutes to its run time to make it work. The action scenes were generally pretty strong including the badass final fight scene. It's not perfect or even close to it, but not every animated comic book movie can be The Mask of the Phantasm. I'm probably going to check out Public Enemies next.

I don't think Public Enemies was as strong as Apocalypse, but its still cool to see a wide assortment of characters. I don't think the style captured Ed McGuinness' art very well, but certainly better than Doomsday.

Dead Alive - They don't make em like this anymore..... but did they ever really?

Would be a perfect movie for MFT if that was still alive. Gory as hell, the effects still hold up pretty good and a great Horredy considering it's not actually scary, just gross and funny.

No, they certainly didn't capture McGuinness' art. They clearly tried, but didn't really succeed. I like the storyline and some of the fight sequences were pretty epic. Bonus points for Power Girl.

Woke up Dead 7.2/10.

Apparently this was supposed to be a web series, but they threw it in the red-box and packaged it like a movie.  It is lame at times, but it has a lot of possible potential. It ends suddenly and your like WTF leading to a web search to confirm suspicions. The pacing was weird and this is obviously because its meant to be a web series. Hope it finishes and doesn't end on a never ending cliffhanger, because that would be really lame....and very Shenmue

The Fifth Element as I see is the sci fi 90's equivalent on the 80's Big Trouble in Little China. An irrelevantly themed action movie full of fun, with great music that no one else has the guts to use and a collection of don't give a **** that collasse into something that is greater than the sum of it's parts.

Family Guy Star Wars movie part 3, episode 6 : It's a Trap!

If all shows are based on first impressions, then, this is a terrible episode of anything. The first 20 minutes of of this has very little in the way of redeeming features. There are some nice recreations of some classic shots an what not, but this **** an't funny. This isn't much of a spolier, but Christ at one point during the first half you get the **** trolled out of you not too disimilar manner to the "Have you heard about the Bird" episode of repeated punch line. For a 55 minute parody of Star Wars, that is a lot of time wasted having the audience imitating imitating a discombobulated Captain Picard.

Then the remaining 35 minutes roll in and the getting finally gets good. The "speeder bike" sequence is something to behold. The cartoon recreations of the battle of Endor in space is excellent (My fondness for the space scenes in ROTJ stop be from declaring Empire as the best ever despite Ewoks). 90% of the jokes are funny oppose to the 5% hit rate the first 20 minutes boast openning roll disclaimer or otherwise. They correct a bunch of scenes, point out more absurdities and bring back the Yub Nub ending!.

If it wasn't for the first 20 minutes, this would join the classics as some of the of best Family Guy. That said, that 35 minutes beats the pants off the menadering Somthing, Something Darkside which is more of a charater replacement than an actual parody.

Put up or skip the first 20 minutes and you will be rewarded.

Because of the recommendation by Dasmos, I watched Animal Kingdom.

I'd give it a Meh/10

The pacing was so slow. I know the director was trying to build tension, but it didn't work. There was only one real part that had me on the edge of my seat, but it was resolved so quickly and meaninglessly.

Each to his own, I guess. I didn't find the film slow, I think it was paced perfectly to generate time to completely flesh out these characters. Normally crime films rush past with a car-chase here or a gun-fight there. Animal Kingdom isn't an action film.

The film had me gripped from the start, and it barely let go. I also found this movie in a weird way refreshing, it's real and uncompromising. It's not trying to romanticise these character like a lot of crime-dramas try and do these days. It's a crime drama that takes the focus of the crime, it's about family. It's about blind loyalty within family despite how fast everything seems to be unravelling. It's unsettling and dark, and it contains a plethora of understated performances from some great actors.

I'd honestly give this film a 10/10.

Saw VII - I despised Saw VI, and view it as one of the most despicable movies I have ever seen.  I always meant to get into it here, but I never got around to it.  Simply put, it's a torture porn movie that has the unmitigated gall to be "about something", namely a heavy criticism/indictment of the medical insurance industry.  Because a movie franchise that glorifies the many different ways to slowly kill someone has the right to do that.  Saw VII is not as disgustingly offensive, but it is definitely disgusting and devoid of the few redeeming qualities the first few installments had.  To be honest, I don't know why I watched this movie.  Maybe I just wanted to give it some closure, but this is a hard movie to watch.  It's so gory that watching it made me feel physically ill, so I just took to seeing the setup for the various traps and then skipping ahead to their resolution rather than watch them.  The plot is incredibly convoluted, but this is a Saw movie so that should come as no surprise.  And personally, I don't understand Jigsaw's beef with the main character of the movie: regardless of the truth, he was spreading Jigsaw's message.  And unlike most Saw protagonists, he actually makes an attempt to save the other victims.

Overall, a pitiful and sad end to what early on promised to be an interesting horror franchise.  Hopefully, it will indeed be the end of it.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

I just watched Toy Story 3. I don't think it is as good as the first two movies, but I still enjoyed it. Lotso was a decent villain, and I am glad they left open the possibility of doing another movie if Pixar wants to do one. The songs in the movie are nowhere near as good as the first. Some of the scenes were darker than any in the first two, like when they almost had the toys burn in the incinerator.

The Fighter

A funny, deep, emotional movie about the struggles of a boxer dealing with a family that weighs him down and inspires him at the same time. Not a lot of flaws with this one. Acting was superb, the plot was entertaining all the way through, and there were some pretty emotional scenes.

Piranha - I loved it. 4/5 stars

Gratuitous Nudity? check
Excessive Blood and Gore? check
Drugs & Alcohol Usage? check
Lots of Celebrity Cameos? check
Prehistoric Creature wreaking havok on unsuspecting humans? double check
Stupid People doing stupid things which eventually leads to the death of others and themselves? check

I didn't watch this in 3D like it was meant to be, but I still found myself yelling at the characters on the screen (Ving Rhames WHY!!!? Why do you have to be the stupid selfless hero? you could have done that from inside the boat damnit. Atleast you weren't the first to die... just the only one to die on purpose). This is your summer creature feature of 2010. It has everything you want out of a late night date movie (except for that Jerry O'connel scene where they ate his dick... OMG and then spit it back out all chewed up). But yo have scenes that get you in the mood to wanna party and drink, and then the gratuitous nudity scenes to get you in the mood, and the then gory scenes to get your date to want to get closer, lots and lots of actively gory scenes to keep her closer and an ending that keeps you from getting bored unexpected? maybe, but definitely very sudden.

If you like not so serious creature feature gory slasher stupid teen getting killed for being stupid and lots of toplessness with a little bit of full frontal (all female), then you probably want to check this movie out.

I have to do a little venting real quick.

So I pop in the A-Team DVD and I willingly sit through the previews which are mostly for TV shows and I'm not really paying attention since I'm reading stuff online while they play, but at about the 4th or 5th preview they play A 3 MINUTE A-TEAM TRAILER showing all the bits and pieces of the movie and then tell me it's coming to DVD in 2011..... Are you fucking serious? This has to be a joke? Did Netflix send me the wrong damn movie that had A-Team mistakenly printed on the disc?

If it's 2011, and I have the A-Team DVD and it's currently playing in my DVD player, then why the **** do you feel the need to advertise the A-Team to me with a spoilerific 3 minute preview to hype me up for it's 2011 DVD release that I currently have in my fuckin DVD player!!!!? This makes no F'n sense at all.
Why advertise the DVD I am currently watching on the DVD that I am currently watching? This kind of stupidity gets me all worked up and I just had to vent it somewhere. You would figure a semi-big well recieved release like the A-Team would have gotten some interesting previews before the movie advertising lots of other movies and shows you want me to check out.

pre-post edit: I thought I must be crazy that they would advertise the DVD in my DVD player on the DVD in my DVD player.... I was wrong. They were actually advertising the Theater release of the movie from 6 months ago. THE THEATER RELEASE FROM SIX MONTHS AGO "There is no Plan B.... June 11" WTFisthisshitpicard.jpg 1000facepalms.gif

That is so absurd, that I'm not even mad anymore, now I'm just laughing. That mixup actually actually put me in a better mood than when I first saw it and now I'm ready to watch the movie again.

I use the preview to keep the filler on my Netflix list long and plentiful.

But the The A-Team gets an A in my book.

It's like Ocean's 11 meets The Expendables and I eagerly, and I mean EAGERLY await a sequel. Take everything you expected to like abut The Expendables and add in the plotting an scheming from Ocean's 11 and you have everything The Expendables wishes it was. You want action with likeable characters that story that keeps you engaged in everything that's going on on screen, then this was that movie. Just remember that there is a little clip after the credits too. I don't know if everything that happened in this movie is even technically possible, but they kept it fun and entertaining and that's all that really matters. I now wish I had supported this movie with a ticket purchase because I realize that I wouldn't have walked away disappointed.

Donnie Darko is really only worth watching as the Director's Cut. It's a good film, but is powered entirely by it's own internal logic.
