Yeah, pretty much.  Although the Wii game library leaves much to be desired when compared to that of the PS2.
No it's not, it's much much better especially these first two years. PS2 didn't have much then.

PS2 had The Bouncer, Fantavision, and a Medal of Honor game that's every bit as [bad] as the ones out now.

This time on PS2 I was playing Nightfire. That's like playing Quantum of Solace now on Wii.

Yes, Nintendo's first-party output for Wii in the first two years kills Sony's output for the PS2 in its first two years.  That's exactly what I said above.

It's the third-party support in the first two years where the PS2 pulls significantly ahead in terms of sheer numbers of (quality) games.  I'd say the PS2 had about four times as many quality third-party games in its first two years, going off of IGN Editor's Choice numbers (incoming "IGN sucks" comments in 5, 4, 3, 2...).

Then again, PS2 was the only game in town; nowadays many third parties can just release on PC/360/PS3 if they so desire.

I was a PS2 only owner until GC launched here in May 2002. It was a pretty **** time after I got the couple of games I wanted. Almost every PS2 game released was getting 9s because it had amazing next gen graphics. The opposite is true of Wii, in fact the media looks very negative at it because they are douches with white headphones and flab pockets. I don't know why anyone would bring the media into a sales thread, because they are clearly irrelevant now not just because their opinions suck but SALES wise, nobody gives a ****. They have zero impact anymore.

Why don't you just use Gamerankings or metacritic?  Using just IGN is kinda bleh since they are a whole lot different today than they were 8 years ago, mainly the branched out into general entertainment news and creating juicy new opportunities for cross-medium review buying.

I only use IGN because they list their Editor's Choice titles by both month and date.  They make it easy to get month/year-to-month/year game release numbers.  I'm not giving any deference to them, or endorsing them in particular.

That is actually a good point. Scores were quite inflated for PS3 because of the visuals. Really the same thing happened with the 360 (not so much with PS3).

They aren't irrelevant, because the same people that read them before are still reading them now.  It just so happens that there's a  bunch of people out there buying Wii's and DS's that didn't read them before, and aren't reading them now.  Not much has really changed, aside from a Nintendo console taking the lion's share of sales.

Just because Wii sales have exploded doesn't mean the rest of the gaming world has become irrelevant, or the rest of the industry that came before has all of a sudden imploded, ceased to exist, or come to a screeching halt.  The only difference for me personally  is that my Mom and Sister both have a Nintendo DS.  That doesn't affect me, my buying tastes, what most people I know will purchase, etc.  My tastes, as a market, aren't going anywhere becasue of the success of the Wii and DS.  It just so happens that people that didn't care about video games before are now interested.

They were always irrelevant, in the past they just liked most of the games that sold. Even before the Wii it has been found repeatedly that reviwew scores and sales don't correlate. These days it almost seems like they're scoring based on the sales and fan numbers they expect rather than the actual game quality, hyped games get more lenient treatment of bugs/weaknesses, games the community hates get a 1/5 despite being nowhere close to Big Rigs.

KDR's right.  When you have a game like MGS4 which has a forced 8 minute load time between chapters, you'd have to be nuts to think that if it were any other game, it would have got reamed in every review.  It's no surprise that the most hyped games get the higher scores.  Makes you wonder what kind of sweet deal they are getting in their PR packages.

The Golden Age of reviews is over.  Nobody trusts them, especially when they are so open about their biases against the majority.  It'll be a while before the Wii Revolution sets up a new generation of gamers raised on Wii who become journalists and start their reviews.  In the meantime, reviewers who openly rag on Wii games like Wii Sports are just like those Amiga fanboys who ragged on Super Mario Bros.  Nobody who played the NES in 1986 gave a care about the Amiga or the Atari ST, nor did they care much about their supporters opinion of them.

Which is why using reviews as a measure of quality in this tumultuous time is a rather odd metric.

Yes SalesBot is back!
I know Flames has done a good job with the sales. I think that Flames could take a region while Salesbot can cover the other. That way it is fair for the parties involved.I know Black&Mild does help as well. If those members want to collaborate with me I think we can work together.PM me.
If someone from Europe and Australia want to help with their respective regions. That would be appreciated.

As to these sales.

Professor Layton takes the top spot.Thats nice to see.
Winning Eleven if I am not mistaken is PES in NA and Europe.Chrono Trigger is selling well.

Once again the Wii increased from last week.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.
