Still waiting for a few more reviews.  Atari is saying these early reviews are based off of preview code.  We shall see.

Geez, man.  I buy games, and then don't get to them for months.  My turn around time is terrible right now.  I'd love for a drought to come so I can catch up.  I need to get around to this game.

There are rumors that Nintendo is going to publish this themselves. I really hope not, the Wii needs more third-party support and this game's not third party anymore if Nintendo publishes it.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm sure HVS will put the game in the hands of a competent 3rd party publisher who will do the game justice with an even more competent marketing campaign - print ads, TV spots, etc. with none of that airport layover foolishness that Nintendo tried with MP3:C.  Although in the end, I wouldn't care either way so long as the game is awesome (which I'm confident it will be), but it is a better look if this performs well under the banner of a 3rd party publisher.

Nintendo Gaming / Awesome new Wiiware title - Eternity's Child
« on: June 10, 2008, 10:40:42 AM »
2D Platforming goodness on Wiiware with a nice score to boot!

Eternity's Child has traveled a long and troubled road to get to where it currently resides as an upcoming Nintendo WiiWare release. Loosely based on a mobile phone game, it actually started development as an Xbox Live Arcade title, but after a was later moved over to Nintendo's DS and Wii systems. Not long after that the DS version was cancelled and the game was officially announced for release on Nintendo's new WiiWare service. The game is probably best known for its unique art style - no surprise considering it's the product of eccentric Anglo-French artist and independent game designer Luc Bernard.

Bernard was kind enough to send us a preview build of the game and after several hours of playing time on the game, one thing is completely clear: Eternity's Child is one of the most unique platformers ever created.

It's difficult to describe the insanely quirky art style the game employs. Imagine if Tim Burton was put in charge of designing and creating the artwork for a brand new Rayman title. The end result would probably end up looking a lot like the visuals in Eternity's child. There's just a very "artsy" look to all of the graphics in the game and the contrast in colors used makes them stand out even more. The animation of the characters and enemies does look unusual (Bernard has stated that he wanted to use hundreds of frames of hand-drawn animation, but lack of funds meant he had to go with the 'rag doll' technique, where each character is constructed of limbs that move independently), but it somehow fits in with the over-the-top theme the game incorporates.

Read more here.

Here are some music samples as well

This is the perfect compliment to Lost Winds it seems.  And who can argue with only 5 Wii points!?

The bigger news is that the Goemon team is now working for Nintendo... :cool;

True.  But being a huge Goemon fan, it doesn't bode well for the series at Konami.

But hey, I'll take the Goemon guys under another roof anyday!

Ubisoft?

Hype meter... decreasing...
They're just publishing it though.  Sucks, but I'll take it.  Also, in the trailer, notice at the 18 second mark the katakana reads "original staff".  I think Acquire is going to get the series back into form.

So Ubisoft's Yves Guillemot goes on record saying that he has 400 to 500 people working on Wii titles and will achieve Nintendo-like quality.  Then, we get this latest drove of brain dead shovelwares.  The rationalization behind it is that traditional games don't sell on Wii, despite plenty of games (including Ubi's own Red Steel) proving the contrary.

Raide is right though, folks on Wii don't want a Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six, or Far Cry game...  particularly when they're rushed and hacked ports like Rival Swords and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, or the atrocity that was Far Cry: Vegeance.

The best thing Ubisoft has done for the Wii was publishing No More Heroes, which I am thankful for.  Other than that, Ubisoft fails.  They openly admitted that their casual Wii shovelware crap is used to fund games on HD consoles.  They don't care to make AAA games on the Wii.  This is unacceptable not just for Wii owners, but for the industry as a whole.

Malstrom couldn't have been more correct with his "birdman" analysis - this right here is evidence in support of it.

^lol!

50% market share by the end of the fiscal year (if not calender year).

What a disappointment.  PS360 getting installments of awesome franchises and we get PuppyDogzBabyfacez?  The only good thing Ubisoft has done for Wii owners was publish No More Heroes.

That's why I don't trust VGChartz until a game has been out for a few months.

Why so? Have they changed their policy and now factor in NPD again, or are they still trying to be "mavericks" and clinging to the idea that their methods are more precise and no longer account of the difference between them and the new NPD findings?

Once they made that announcement awhile back I pretty much gave up on them.

I always see VGChartz sales trackers say they're actually less accurate than NPD, due to not having as large a data sampling.  But it's supposed to be in independent sales tracking site, and at the end of the day, NPD numbers are also an estimates (albeit, more accurate).  They do readjust their numbers post NPD though.  But I find their numbers to be pretty accurate for the most part, well with their margin for error.

It's damn shame these guys are having a hard time finding a publisher for this game.  It's times like this when Nintendo needs to just step up and support the project themselves.

Hopefully, High Voltage will nail the controls.  MP3:C and MOHH2 were just perfect.  As for pure FPS's though, this game is exactly what I want.  MOHH2 was a bit too plodding for my liking and there was a heavy emphasis on taking cover, which isn't a bad thing, but not the balls out, run-and-gun shooter mechanics I really want to see on Wii - something more akin to Turok 1 & 2 on N64.  Plus, I'm sick of the WWII theme.

Anyways, this game looks like it could be awesome.  Here's hoping someone will step up soon.

The game is actually quite good.  Don't expect anything technically impressive as it doesn't do anything with the hardware even by PS2 standards.  But the gameplay is pretty interesting even if I'm a bit lost as to what to do right now.  More impressions soon come.

I would get hit on purpose whenever I had full life in ALttP just to get rid of the beam - I couldn't stand it.  For some reason, I didn't mind it in Zelda 1... probably because staying away from enemies and attacking from afar would prolong life in a game where enemies took 5 to 6 hearts.  I didn't mind Oni Link's beam attack either.

I like how you could "level up" the Master Sword in ALttP.  You could have it tempered (level 3), then have the fat Great Fairy bless it and make it golden (level 4).  I think they should let you either collect sword in mass, or upgrade your Master Sword (or whatever non-Master Sword you'd have in a non-Hyrule Zelda) at least 10 times... but then you'd have to maybe have some kind of stat tracking on enemies where they get tougher or what not.

I haven't totally thought this through... but I think it'd be cool to do this.
