It seems kind of stupid to not allow you to change their names.  Is there an actual reason for it, or is it just an arbitrary Nintendoism?

I think there was a "reason" in the old games, but it's really just Nintendoism.

It makes heaps of sense. It's not your Pokemon. The original trainer has to have some kind of influence on the Pokemon.

Well yeah but that's assuming you only borrowed the thing. After a trade it should be YOUR 'mon.

They could have just made it so once the traded pokemon becomes super happy with you and you have a heartscale that you could change its name. Alas they did not. Oh well.

Well I believe that if you didn't catch it with a pokeball or hatch it from an egg it's not 100% yours.

Well can you ever truly own another living thing?

Perhaps that's a bit too philosophical, but if you can name a Pokemon that you capture from the wild, taking it away from its family and friends, you should be able to name one that you get in a trade.

You'd think Nintendo would want to protect all the kids from people who would name their Pokemons 'ImGonnaRapeYou' or 'KidSexIsGreat' by letting them change their names, ya know?

Mario is right.

ANYWAY GUYS QUESTION ABOUT POKERUS!

Once they become aimmune, like they have the little smiley face, do they still experience the benefits of Pokerus, the rapid growth EVs, or is it gone forever. So annoyed that I didn't throw this Zubat into a box before saving up last night.

From Wikipedia:

"Once Pokérus' effects end, the host develops an immunity to it and pokerus can no longer be transmitted. However, the accelerated stat growth remains, the Pokémon only loses the ability to spread it."

Yeah they're a huge step up from all the other battles, although I was able to edge by with my first pass trough (Well my first team selection... I "lost" several times but was saving after each win.)  Speaks to the balance of the game I guess as I managed even though only a few of my team members weren't heavy contributors.  I lost several times just due to not knowing what to expect.

So does that mean my team becomes available to others online to battle now?

[One of my team members was a former charmander from thatguy.  The Charizard was one of the ones that saw heavy use during all five matches and was the only pokemon that I "depleted" any move's PP, so thanks again for that charmander!]

I finished Mein Pokedex a few weeks ago. Completed the Sinnoh National Dex, I should say. It took MONTHS. Sort of kinda worth it, too. I wrote an article about my epic journey, but Windy has yet to look it over.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I have Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Colossuim, XD, Ruby Sapphire Box (storage for Pokemon), Japanese Red and Yellow versions, all Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games (Red Rescue Team, Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness), Trozei, Ranger, Puzzle League, and have Pokemon Snap download to my Wii from the Virtual Console.
Just going a little off topic, I even have every Pokemon movie and have some of the seasons of the show on DVD:  Season 1; all three volumes, Season 2 Box Set, Season 5; both volumes, and Season 6; both volumes.

No, I'm just a big fan of Pokemon.  I would love to have Hey You, Pikachu! in my Pikachu 64, but I never owned the game.  Technically, my younger brothers had it, but I don't know if they still do because that would mean that I have to talk to my mother and I refuse to have any contact with her, so I'm hunting for it on Ebay.  I already got the Pikachu N64 off of Ebay.
I did, however, forget to mention about my Pokemon cards and Pokemon E-Reader cards, my Pokemon game guides, and Pokemon GBC (the one that's yellow and blue with different colored A and B buttons).  I used to own Pokemon toys, but I gave them to my little sister because she's a Pokemon fan too.
Unfortunately, I don't have all the money in the world to get every, single Pokemon thing.  If I did, where the heck would I put all of that stuff?
I do have pictures of my Pokemon collection on my MySpace.
