It's the Japanese charts. I'm glad it's still on the list at all, and it's only one below the top ten.

Wow, both Just Dance and Dance on Broadway are in the top 10. We might be witnessing the first true 3rd party 'Wii ___' type evergreen seller series. Not even Boom Blox pulled that off. Though the music selection and appeal are diverse enough that I can see the justification to own both games.

SMG2 is no longer even in the top ten. That's a heavy blow...

But that's half of the trick with evergreen titles. They drop below the top 10 but they continue to sell at a consistent and brisk pace. Games like Boom Blox, Modern Warfare Wii, Game Party and Carnival Games never hit the top 10 to my knowledge but all of them broke the million mark in the long run. And all with little to no advertising.

I'm pretty sure Call of Duty Modern Warfare was in the Wii top ten during its launch month. But you're right, the bulk of its sales came after that, and it's still in stores. I've seen it around.

EA killed Boom Blox's sales by replacing it with a sequel. The sequels to Game Party were probably redundant as well.

I'm pretty sure that Game Party 2 also sold well. Let me check...

According to VGChartz:

GP1 - 2.21 million
GP2 - 1.44 million
GP3 - 300k

So it didn't drop off until the third one, but that one hasn't been out for even a year.

What I mean is, I don't think releasing sequels was necessary to maintain sales. Game Party was still selling when its sequel was released, and I think it could have sold 4 million on its own, instead of selling 4 million for the three games combined.

Didn't SMG1 last longer in the top 10 than SMG2? If you look at how well it did the week before it was in 6th place, so a drop from 6th to 11th is pretty bad... its not like it went down one or two pegs. It dropped 5 slots.

I suppose its possible next week it could get back on the Top 10, but realistically its past its peak. I have some serious doubts about it surpassing SMG1 in sales.

Well SMG1 was released just before the holiday season, was it not?  I'm sure that helped the title stay in the top 10.

And I wouldn't consider either Galaxy title to be an evergreen title.

Yeah, the seventh week for Super Mario Galaxy was the week before Christmas, so of course Galaxy 2 won't match that. I'm not sure why the two games don't seem to be able to maintain sales as well as some other titles (at least in Japan), but here's hoping Galaxy 2 is still in stores for this holiday season.

What makes you think it sold less than 100K first month? Please don't say VG Chartz because they make up their info. Considering it has only been out for two months, I don't think you could call it a bomb so soon. I have seen a lot of commercials for the game recently, so Nintendo is still supporting it.

Also, Excitebots: Trick Racing sold just 13K in its first month in the US.

It did break the 100k mark eventually I heard. I'm sure S&P will do the same.

It didn't help that Nintendo didn't bother actually advertising the game (it's hard to get people to buy your game when you don't let them know that it exists).

When will people stop acting like first month sales are the same as life time totals.  Especially when it comes to Nintendo published games that 90% of the time sell more copies in the months after release then the first month.

I don't think Sin and Punishment 2 is the bigger bomb for June.  That's definitely Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.  This is a big time series with a game that had a gigantic budget and Sony advertising (with that twerp Marcus) and it only sold about 50k.  It sold less than Metal Gear Acid and The Twin Snakes in its first month, and those games had zero advertising.

It's expected failure was probably the driving reason for that new Metal Gear game being on the 3DS and the possibility of it never being a Sony exclusive game again.

Nobody expected Sin & Punishment to sell that well, not even Nintendo. They knew it was a very niche product.

To be fair, I don't know if even Sony expects any PSP game (even Metal Gear) to sell well outside of Japan.  I'm beginning to think the only reason any Japanese company brings PSP games over here is sheer ego because they can't admit that the system is a gigantic financial black hole outside of Japan.  Maybe a few games escape the event horizon, but most get sucked in due to piracy and sheer customer apathy.

I think there are several reasons why ExciteBots sold relatively poorly:

1. No advertising. This is essential for the more casual crowd to become aware of the game.
2. No hype. Game was announced shortly before release and was never talked about.
3. The game was too weird. Driving robotic animals and insects isn't very appealing to most people. I honestly think it would have sold better if it were Excite Truck 2.
4. Many people may have seen it as being like Mario Kart Wii, which a lot of people own. These people likely are content with Mario Kart and don't want another racing game, or, would choose to buy Mario Kart since it's a much more recognizable franchise.

As for Sin and Punishment 2: When have shmups ever sold comparatively well?

If they could trade your purchase with the purchase of everyone that didn't buy it (but would've bought an Excite Truck 2), they would be in a much better place.
