I am all caught up on Community, I am not liking this new season as much. I won't go into why but part of it is losing Chevy Chase, he was the hook that got me into the show. I also did not care for the VHS episode, it almost ruined those two characters for me entirely. I still like the show but I can tell it is going to a place I don't want it to.

I don't get the hate the first Fantastic Four movie gets, it was a great movie, the sequel was a disaster though maybe it's just guilty by association? I hate how they are rebooting things too fast to keep up anymore.

I didn't hate the first movie, as I think Human Torch and the Thing were well cast and worked well together, but everything else was pretty forgettable.

The hate for Fox rebooting and trying to continue the franchise is that we want Marvel to have the rights back, mostly for Dr. Doom, and all their cosmic enemies (Galactus, Silver Surfer, Super Skrull & Annihilus), not so  much the Fantastic Four team itself.

I am all for that but I don't get why there needs to be another movie, the first was a good movie adaptation i think some people want live action comic books instead of movies based on comic books.

The fact is the Wii U is a confusing product, with or without the Game Pad, all it does is further confuses potential buyers. When I first went shopping for one I didn't know it still had it's own Wiimote, I thought the Game Pad was supposed to replace the motion controls so another failure on their part, marketing. I don't want to own a machine that I need to read the label to determine if I have the right controller to play it, I never bought the Super Scope or those Bongos for that same reason. It isn't even about games anymore, if your machine is not appealing nobody buys it no games get mad.e

At first I was against just re-releasing more GC games remastered in HD but then I remembered two things that changed my mind, first all those PS2 games remastered on PS3 are actually pretty good bargains, and two the Game Cube had some of the best games around at the time.

If they can do 1 new remake HD remaster a year that would be fine by me, I would love to do a full redo of Mario 64 instead of Sunshine though. If they tackled Sunshine it would just make the Wii U lose more of it's identity instead of a botched follow up to Wii it will turn into the proper follow up to Game Cube but with too many rehashes it will be harder to get it's own identity.

IF they could do one HD remake a year, or do it like Sony has been and get some collections going I would like the following:

Metroid HD Saga, kind of like the Metal Gear Solid collection, go all the way back to NES, include everything up to and including Other M, all remastered in HD on one disc if they can do it. None of that voucher crap for the Virtual Console version either.

Super Mario All Stars Remix HD, something like the one on Wii but a full HD remix that includes a few more extra games.

Kirby Super Star HD

In fact just do a bunch of HD collections on all their big franchises just to get some damn games out the door. Forget the virtual console I want remixes and in HD because even with good filters some of those games look terrible on an HDTV.

If they were going to do something from the Game Cube era I would like a full HD remake of Star Fox Adventures bundled with Assault and throw F Zero GX for the hell of it. Even a Pikmin 1 & 2 HD remake bundle would be nice.

Being more realistic here, I am hoping Hyrule Warriors comes out this year, if so that is the game that might push me into getting a Wii U.

I think they will quietly retool Yarn Yoshi into a more Yoshi's Island type game.

Dreaming here but I would like to see a Final Fantasy X*** style HD remake/sequel to Super Mario RPG. I would be down for a full HD remake/remix of Super Mario RPG also.

For new franchises I would like to see Nintendo try something like a Shining Force style game but not a Fire Emblem.

Stuff

Wow you read way into my original topic. I was simply saying that all this fanboy arguing over which system is best is ridiculous. PS4 and Xbox One are both great systems that will get plenty of games and developer support. People may have preferences, but one system isn't superior over the other one.

As for the other stuff you said, people don't want one console to rule them all. However, it would be good for game consoles to stop being so proprietary and locked down. Multiple manufacturers can make consoles that all run the same games, and they would all run a standardized OS to ensure cross-compatability. Developers shouldn't have to make different versions of the same game for different consoles.

Look at smartphones and PC's, for example. A Samsung Galaxy can run the same apps as an HTC One; an HP laptop can run the same programs as a Lenovo laptop. The software (OS) controls the experience, not the hardware, and that's how game consoles should be.

PC's are not the same though they DO play the same games! that was my point. The hardware can  be different but if all the games were compatible it would lead to games being more widely accepted again look at Hollywood, it CAN be done and YES it is what people want even if they don't understand it. But if you HATE console wars why would you of all people be against a single platform obviously YOU benefit from the console war because you chose a console that is not popular. I think it just says more about you than the topic at hand.

it is still a valid point but the problem is there hasn't been a united place to release games for over a decade. Back when they were new they did work just like Hollywood, video games were released in Arcades, much like movies were in Theaters, and then they were ported to consoles AND PC's. The problem was that by the time Playstation came along people didn't care about Arcades anymore and that business model fell to the way side and things got more divided then ever before.

Bringing up tablets has NOTHING to do with my argument and is a damn cop out.

You misunderstood what I was saying based on your reply so I will try again. DO you own a DVD player? Or a Blu Ray Player? Guess what that is what video games SHOULD be like and what every gamer deep down wants, the problem is that nobody wants to work together to do it right. It doesn't mean ONE company makes the box and everyone agrees to make games for it. Cell Phones and tablets and PC's are entirely different technologies and have no bearing on this topic at all.

I don't care enough to keep going so you didn't get it fine by me.

**** man that is EXACTLY what I was saying how the hell did you miss that?

I wondered this myself, with all the fuss about the Gamepad are there any games that make it worth owning or is it something people defend just because it's there and Nintendo told them to like it so they do?  I remember people bitching about it before launch and the faithful clamoring how great it was and they had to try it before they judge it, now it's out and people tried it they have mixed views on it those same people are saying just try it or that it isn't being used correctly, if they can't find good ways to make use of it in every game than it should not have been mandatory because if even Nintendo is running out of ideas it was a mistake period. If Off TV play is the best they can do that could have been an Android/iOS app.

MarioKart 64 or Double-Dash
I'm curious, why did you choose these two Mario Kart games instead of something more recent? I think that Mario Kart Wii or 7 would be a better introduction to the series/videogames because the control in them is way, way better than older games in the series. The general mechanics are better as well, and in the case of Mario Kart 64, the graphics are too primitive.

Likely for the same reason I chose the games I did, the early games in the series set the precedent no matter how much better the latter games get the originals are where we started and thus think others should start too. I would recommend everyone play Pac-Man even though MS. Pac-Man is generally accepted as the better game, it's because you want to experience gaming in it's entirety not just the current stuff.

Look at it this way, if someone plays MK64 or DD and like those then they are more likely to really like the better newer ones, but if they start with a newer one and go back to one of the older ones they might not like them at all or as  much and thus miss out on some great games from the past.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Why should Nintendo drop the GamePad?
« on: March 16, 2014, 01:59:13 PM »
First of all it's so much they should as they could that I was pointing out, second of all dropping the price drastically would bring back support if they casual market returned in droves, the market Nintendo needs to stay profitable, third, it's not JUST third party support that will drop Nintendo themselves will stop investing in it if it's not profitable to do so, they CAN NOT afford to take another loss like they did, unlike Sony and MS they have nothing of value to sell off to hide losses, they can't bleed money forever and that's that they are doing right now. They also can not afford to drop the price but the market is demanding that hence why retailers are doing despite Nintendo doing it, that's a reality the machine is over priced for the market. Last, for godssakes Nintendo is NOT competing with MS or Sony anyways so those are not the types of games they will ever attract that segment of the market will never buy outdated hardware no matter WHAT fancy controller they give it, and even die hard Nintendo fans are losing interest because Nintendo themselves are losing interest. I doubt dropping the game pad will turn it into a Wii success but it could bring back a lot of the Wii Fit type of fans who are on a tight budget and won't buy a PS4 anyways. They could do N64 levels of sales and make a profit, Game Cube barely made a profit and so far Wii U is losing money and it's losing so much it offsets what the 3DS makes, that is not good business.

Also it really goes back to what you mean by 3rd party support, DUH the major cross platform games won't make it anymore, but they should have been able to for at least another year, you can't really believe that if Wii U was doing better being superior to PS3 it wouldn't at least be getting the SAME GAMES the PS3 is getting? Hell right now the Wii U has better games than PS4 but that is not stopping the best games from coming to last gen hardware right now so why is it stopping those SAME GAMES from coming to Wii U? SALES period.

I forgot to mention in that last part that the third party support that will come back would be the kind tailored for the Nintendo crowd anyways like what Wii had.

It's worse than movie that is for sure, but then again movies tend to have a universal delivery system that all can enjoy where as video games are a fractured market. Some people cringe at the idea of a single content delivery system for video games but I think if we had that all along it wouldn't be this way, the hardware would improve from time to time but if the industry could make the 3DO/Steam Machine/PS Now models actually work it wouldn't be this way. The reason for the console wars is because there are too many great games spread around to specific hardware.

With movies, an entertainment industry that gets taken seriously, pretty much all major films get at least a limited theatrical release followed by as many home video options as are available. There are some licensing issues for broadcast type services but home video and even cable still provide access to just about every major movie released.

It is not the same with video games, you have Atari making games so you have Mattel making games that are similar but slightly different than Atari and then Nintendo and Sega come along and do the same thing. Then Microsoft and Sony enter the mix and it's the same thing.

It is harder for a game to find it's audience when the experience changes depending on the hardware you have. With films the most change you get is going from SD to HD and FS to WS that's it, the core movie is generally the same. With video games, it's not at all like that, even a game as simple as Pac-Man can be entirely different when played on a system using a Joystick verses a Touch Stylus, vs a D-Pad and the changes are even more apparent when one version of a game can be missing entire segments of the game, such as is the case with Nintendo versions often features or content being missing.

There doesn't need to be a universal company that makes all game players but there should be a standard the three agree on and make their games cross compatible and then do as DVD manufacturers do, differentiate based on price and such, get more manufacturers into the mix and let the MS and Nintendo go software only Sony can spin off their software division to whomever wants it and the industry can unite and grow in a way similar to Hollywood.

NONE of that will ever happen and that is why we have the console war, because deep down it IS what we all want, to buy ONE machine that just plays all games, and since we can't have that we are forced to pick the "winner" because we assume it will get the best games.

STOP bringing up the Wii that is a special case and you know it, it was NOT the market leader between Xbox 360 and PS3 it was in it's own market even Nintendo admits that so deal with it, this whole side talk about how Wii was on top and it lacked support is utter garbage it had sufficient support for the MARKET it was in, it just didn't appeal to US because we were not the target market and bitching about the games that were made for it is stupid because those are the games that sold to that market. It is a different story it's not as cut and dry as three game machines one leads the market its different markets same as why the 3DS is not competing with the PS4 it is competing with the Vita and tablets different markets, like film and TV are different markets or DVD and iTunes.

Maybe not the best but it will improve if sales pick up. It silly to think otherwise, even the Game Cube made a slight bounce back after the price drop and sales boost. It didn't amount to much but they managed to hang in there where Wii U will be doing Dreamcast levels of sales and Sega CD levels of support if they keep doing what they are.

I stopped watching Til Death it got real stupid real fast. I think the last one I watched he was learning how to swim or the one with his new convertible somewhere in there.

I moved on to Community, since I just signed up for Hulu I decided to give that a watch through, I've watched a few episodes here and there and it always looked really stupid but seeing it from the beginning I am starting to really like it now. I would say 9/10

Till Death I say 5/10 but I can't watch anymore for a while those last two episodes I saw just killed the show for me.

I love the console wars, it makes things more exciting. It's easier to just simplify things and that is what most people want, to keep things as simple as possible. That is why they say arbitrary things like 3DO doesn't count as a game console or that a hard ware generation is set by a specific date rather than comparable technology. I hate the term hardware gen more than the console wars because nobody ever agrees on what a "generation" even is.

I found a used DS Lite at a local used game shop so I picked it up and a pair of GBA games, Super Mario Advance and Namco Museum, I been looking for a GBA for a while and this is as close as I have been able to get so I am happy, it was only ten dollars more than they sell GBA SP systems for anyways so it was a good deal. I came real close to picking up a PSP 2000 they had but I decided to hold off on that. It was great I was standing there asking the guy if they had any GBA or GBA compatible DS consoles, he said nope and a guy came in with a DS Lite to trade in just minutes latter so I waited for him to finish the trade and grabbed it.

The PS4 is having supply issues world wide, what makes you think that Japan was given an infinite supply when the US and EU are still having supply issues? Every unit shipped to Japan is  a unit not shipped to the US, where it has been selling out since launch pretty much. I think they are getting production up to speed now but they are spread pretty thin as a company who is struggling just to keep their doors open so I can see them allocating resources very strategically at this point. Next year will be the real indicator.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Why should Nintendo drop the GamePad?
« on: March 15, 2014, 02:25:03 PM »
Here is my takeon dropping the Game Pad, it could be done and it could work out good too, everyone talks about the 5 million users that would be offended and the handful of games that would be affected but here is the thing, if Nintendo dropped the Game Pad and cut say an extra hundred bucks off the cost of the console and sold it as an optional upgrade it would just be viewed as having packed in an accessory for a period of time and then removing it, they could patch any games that would be broken or just require those games to have the Game Pad anyways. Nintendo has done this before believe it or not, the NES came standard with the Zapper and launched with a game packed in that required the Zapper, after the machine took of they made the Zapper optional and sold separately and slowly support faded but sales of the console grew.

Suppose Nintendo drops the Game Pad, something that is a turn off to many, and sales triple over night, then software sales increase and support comes back, more games get made and everybody wins, the game pad remains an option for those who want it and they just re-package those games that use it as compatible with Game Pad and let the gamer decide which control scheme they prefer, they can do a motion controls only bundle that is akin to Wii Mini that they target to the casuals and pack it in with a new Wii Sports and an updated Wii Fit or something and get some of that market back, then they have a cheaper entry level system for those who want the machine but don't want the high price tag. Can they completely bury the Game Pad and forget about it, no but they can remove it as an mandatory bundle pretty easily and the games that require it can be labeled as such and the gamer who cares enough for that feature or game will buy it, like the people who buy the Balance Board or the Microphones or Kinect or PS Move, etc.

the most current game I play semi-regularly is AVGN Adventures. I am sort of in between homes right now so my PS2/PS3 are not accessible so I am left with my very non-gaming laptop and a Game Boy Color I picked up last week used. I guess you could count Tetris, I play that nightly on the GBC.

I might pick one up after Hyrule Warriors comes out, if a couple more games show up that interest me, but with it's current line up I am waiting for a price drop, Mario Kart doesn't interest me that much, the last one I really played was DS and I got bored with that after about a week.

Also, the $500 Xbox One isn't selling either.  :(

-------------------

It's selling more than the 360 did at the same time period. Since when was a 3 million sales gap considered failure? When the PS3 was released the 360 had a 10 million sales lead, but the PS3 quickly caught up after the Slim was released at a lower price.

I hate how fanboys (not you) assume a console is "winning" or "failing" after only 4 months on the market; it's way to early to announce a winner. A console's success should never be judged on early sales figures; sales can change in an instant.

The early sales DO matter though, if early sales are too low and companies lose money on releasing games for the system they drop support for it, Wii U sales were pretty good up front too but they dropped off.

I don't know, maybe they saw how great it was already doing in the US and decided not to chase the third place market and focus on the one that matters most, Sony might be HQ in Japan but their culture is very much world wide, Nintendo is a Japanese company first, Sony is just a multinational company that happens to be based in Japan.
