Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 117: Request THIS!
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:02:14 AM »
Wow, I'm late, but just wanted to say another good episode!

Nice to see another of my requests being used, and just as nice that Guillaume had also requested it (game #5). I couldn't identify it though! The music selection simply didn't ring a bell, but if it truly has such a large number of tracks, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. Kirby Mass Attack is a great game, but it can definitely get tiring with the repeated stylus use.

TalkBack / Re: Call from EU: Zoning Out with the Runner2 Soundtrack
« on: June 14, 2013, 11:23:43 AM »
I just bought the Runner2 soundtrack and I'm glad I found your blog entry, it's a nice review of the music. It's awesome how they took the music from the game, which the player sort of only gets the full effect of when they're actually playing the game due to the user interaction, and created a soundtrack that stands on its own. I didn't realize that the soundtrack had two tracks per world (such as "Sadds" and "Moldy Drops" for world 4) since the track list doesn't indicate what levels they're from.

Sounds pretty awesome, this is also my first time really reading about the type of gameplay this game has. I can only hope, though, that the Wii U version isn't watered down from the other versions. This game could really use the GamePad in some fun and interesting ways.

Good to hear them acknowledge the game!

So they haven't revealed an official title? We went from 'Melee' to 'Brawl' to ... ?

Mega Man, yes!

These are awesome, nice picks! And thanks for linking back to the original Miiverse posts so I can give these talented folks the Yeahs they deserve.  :)

I'm glad that works for you Zack. I'm not sure I would like doing that, though. I've been in the situation where I'm in the middle of too many games, and what happens is that I have to do a little bit of re-learning if I don't play a game after some amount of time (like @lolmonade mentioned). If I'm on a roll with a particular game and am engrossed in it, why would I want to spend less time with it and switch to something else? But that's just me.

I keep my backlog small simply by buying fewer games and being realistic about how quickly I can play through them. Being a new dad, it's been harder recently to having gaming time, period.

Right now I have three games going (always have minimum 1 console and 1 portable game going at any given time):

Runner2 (Wii U eShop)
Pandora's Tower (Wii)
Dragon Quest IX (DS)

and I may start a 3DS eShop game. That is plenty for now, and I'm having a great time. I think my stack of unopened games is currently 5 or so.

If I'm not enjoying a game, I'm not going to force myself to finish it at all costs.

I definitely have a backlog, but I'm not the kind of gamer who will complain about it.

« on: April 23, 2013, 08:34:17 PM »

I got 2 out of 5 games correct!

Hhm, I thought I had requested Game 1 before? In any case, I identified DK '94 right away and love the music; it has a wacky sound to it!

I have not played games 2 or 5.

I've played game 3, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machinebut I didn't spend too much time with it, and so there was no way I would have remembered the music.

After hearing the first song, I was able to identify game 4 pretty quickly! It helps I played Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition fairly recently. The soundtrack really carries the game well, and I had a great time with it.

Fun episode as always!

Awesome.

I'm glad to have played and finished (American copies) Xenoblade and The Last Story.

My wife pre-ordered Pandora's Tower for me, can't wait to jump into it!

I've got so many games I'm actively playing at the moment though! Let's see if I can clear them out by April 16...

TalkBack / Re: Embracing the Digital Future on the 3DS
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:23:45 AM »
I haven't bought a single retail title digitally yet on either 3DS or Wii U.

On Wii U it's mostly because I always find a good deal on retail games and find it hard to justify full price on the eShop. It's no inconvenience to get up off the couch and switch discs, so that aspect isn't a factor.

If a new Wii U game releases that I would have bought at full price at retail anyway, perhaps then I will just go the digital route.

On 3DS, I think what's stopped me from going digital is the fact I like to share my games with my wife who also has a 3DS. However, I've been finding that I'm not really doing this anyway on a regular basis, and if she wants to play, she can just use my system. Since 3DS games are harder to find at discount prices (especially published by Nintendo), I'll likely be buying more 3DS games digitally going forward.

I played the first StarTropics for the first time on the Wii VC and despite some issues, I ended up enjoying it a lot. I still need to download Zoda's Revenge, it's been on my Wanted list for quite some time.

Such a shame the franchise has been neglected all these years.

Good review! I just recently reviewed this game over at Negative World and agree with most of what you said about the game's best attributes. I rather enjoyed the game, even the boss battles, which I found very satisfying.

@Pixelated Pixies

Yeah, that jump at the beginning of 'The Final Fight' would get me every time; it was frustrating. I kept trying to jump too early maybe?

Sounds really cool, Guillaume! I loved the WiiWare game as well and also didn't finish it, mostly because of its high difficulty (I think I got stuck on one of the Slimy Sewer stages). The game was pretty tough as you had carefully figure out where to use your limited number of items.

I like how they're simplifying things a bit with this one, yet still keeping the puzzle aspect intact. Looking forward to the game!

I didn't quite guess Game 1. I had a feeling it was a GBA game, and I knew there were FF IV and VI versions, but I forgot there was also a V. Music sounds great!

I didn't guess Game 2. My wife did figure it was probably a Sonic game of some sort. I wasn't particularly impressed with the demo, but everyone keeps saying how much better it is than Mario Kart.

Game 3 I never played, but who wouldn't recognize that music!

Games 4 and 5 were easy to identify. I bought the full soundtrack for Mutant Mudds (just like I did for VVVVVV) and it really is something awesome. The Last Story has a fantastic soundtrack, and I wish I owned the full soundtrack for it (like I do with Xenoblade) rather than the limited selection of songs that are included on the bonus CD.

Overall, I appreciated the music 'dissection' between TYP and Jonny over much of the music, it really makes me notice instruments that I couldn't quite pick out on my own. Great episode!

Awesome! I can't wait to play this.

I fell in love with Ubisoft when Wii U launched. I bought, finished, and enjoyed ZombiU and Assassin's Creed III, and I was highly anticipating Rayman Legends after played the demo from the eShop.

Now I just feel sick.

Another fun episode; Happy new year TYP!

I could only identify Game 1; I love that game.

I was surprised to find out the game for the music on Game 2. I may have to check it out

I knew I had heard the music for Game 4 before, but I couldn't remember what game it was. I owned that game for a while back in the day.

I really want to play Game 5, it's been on my wish list for a while.

It does sound good Guillaume, and thanks for pointing out that flaw in finding that item. That's a shame, because otherwise the games sounds very enjoyable!

Great episode TYP and Zach! Very surprised by Game 1 not being on the show before. Love that music!

Game 2 does not sound like it has a great soundtrack, though I was interested in playing the game (esp. being the first DOA game on a Nintendo system ).

Aw man, I've always wanted to play Game 3! I like that music a lot. Why no VC ??  :(

Game 4 is on my list of 'Do Want' games for my Wii U.

And wow at Game 5's music. I had no idea there was music like this on a Commodore 64 game.

Nice review Guillaume, I've been enjoying the game very much so (you have some great scores on the leaderboard to shoot for!). I guess I didn't realize how important luck is, but it's true that it seems a bit random whether I end up getting that secondary weapon or extra satellite that I so highly desire. So those are not necessarily rewards for playing well then? Even the bonus letters?
