You know, I'm getting the feeling that Nintendo may not have a lot NEW to show off this year at E3, but they might still put on a great show just because of the massive amount of content they're putting out there.

OK, so while not really Nintendo, something worried me from the MS conference.  One of the new IPs they showed boasted "From the Makers of Metroid Prime".  Have some of the Retro team left?

That's Armature, founded by former Retro guys, but they left years ago, after (or maybe slightly before) Prime 3.

The chief guys behind Metroid Prime left after 3 and formed Armature Studios (Batman Blackgate, Bloodstained Wii U).

Nintendo dropped a metric ton of eShop trailers before the Digital Event last year as well. This is par for the course so far.

Updated to include individual trailers for all the Nindies @ Home games. But what are you waiting for? Go play them instead!

What am I waiting for? The painfully slow servers to ease up so I can actually download these things.

Tried out Freedom Planet. My older brother was singing its praises, and it seems to be for good reason. Really enjoyed what I played from the demo. Reminds me a lot of Sonic, which the game is based off of, so that's good!

Some good 3DS news but the WII stuff was pretty brutal.  Animal Crossing and Mario Tennis were the two new wii U titles.  Xenoblade gets a date (Dec 4th) but there's very little to get excited for next year other than Zelda.

Nintendo really needed to pull a Sony and show some games that aren't going to be released for a while, but are a reason for people to get excited. Not much to get excited about from the Digital Event.

Yeah, the digital event sucked. I was hoping Nintendo would be immediately releasing some interesting games. But a lot of this was transformations on things that I never wanted to change.

I was drawn away to do some work after the Direct started so I'll have to endure it later, but from everything I saw on Twitter this conference looked like a near-total fail. I had so much hope after Microsoft & Sony brought it this year.

Excellent. No one was talking about it on Twitter, so I was concerned it wasn't the Halloween game it obviously would excel at.

Who cares?

It looks visually stale and not fun at all to play. So much for a bomb.

It's like Nintendo thought hyping current games would be a good way to trump the lateness of the Sony/Microsoft conferences. But it doesn't really work when all of your games look like bad ideas.

Yikes. The Digital Event was pretty mediocre. Star Fox and Xenoblade Chronicles X look good, and Paper Mario and Luigi (forgot what it's actually called) was my favorite new game showed. I guess the writing is on the wall. Nintendo admitted to focusing on games that will be released this year and early 2016 which isn't that much. It comes off as "We have some great games in the works, but they've all been delayed to NX so here's Metroid without Samus."

Sony dropped bigger announcements. My problem with is that most of them are so far away, they barely matter. Sony has given me no reason to buy a PS4 in 2015.

I probably would have cared more about Microsoft's showing if I liked Rare's games more. Backwards compatibility is nice to have, but too late to matter at this point. Maybe it's trying to help 360 owners transition easier.

Man, at a certain point, it just got so bad it's funny. I was pretty sure they'd have something up their sleeves after moving the Smash presentation to a separate slot and announcing 3DS stuff early. But that was pretty shitty from top to bottom. I mean, Star Fox will probably be good, but that footage looked super rough/budget. Animal Crossing Party Pets is so wrong-headed I actually cracked up. And another five minute chunk about Wooly World! Not even a follow-up Smash bomb!

Well, I've said it before, this showing was going to demonstrate whether they had pulled the plug on most WiiU projects a year and a half ago.

Think Platinum Games has two many projects going on at once IMO so the quality of their games will likely be lower than what most people are comfortable with.  They are making Transformers, Starfox, Scalebound, Neir 2, and one undisclosed game.

Work is work so they are grabbing any projects that are thrown their way but I think the outcome is written on the wall.
