TalkBack / Re: Paper Mario: Color Splash (Wii U) Review
« on: October 05, 2016, 10:26:25 PM »
While I won't deny sticker star had its issues, it definitely did one thing very well: it was a GREAT RPG for people who, like myself, don't really like deep RPGs. The only RPGs I've ever enjoyed were the Mario/Paper Mario games, and I LOVED thousand year door, but man, it could be REALLY challenging at times. And yes,Sticker Star stayed pretty simple, but I see that as a good thing. Nothing was ever TOO difficult; even the bosses hit that right kind of challenging, yet really simple if you knew the right secret. And my favorite part: NO GRINDING! So, yeah, while Sticker Star wasn't exactly Thousand Year Door's level of grand adventure, it was a great casual RPG and one I still like to visit from time to time.

In case anyone hasn't heard yet, there is now a petition to cancel this game...

One small complaint I would make is that the beginning tutorial gets a little long in the tooth, but outside of that, I've loved everything else!

Seems quite superfluous, which means it will sell out and be impossible to get.

Oh, it's blast ball specific? I don't know how much use I'll get out of that mode.

Admittedly, it would be cool to finally answer the question "What if Zelda was a girl?"
...I regret nothing.

So I had it pre ordered, but canceled my pre order because reviews almost universally say it's unplayable on a 2ds/standard 3ds. I was at the game store and a friend (with a new 3ds) showed up and picked up her copy. She played for a bit, then let me throw it in my 2ds. I would say it's noticeably slower, but not significantly so. After playing hers for a few, I immediately turned around and bought a copy. I'm absolutely enjoying it. Granted, I'm only 3 missions in, so I don't know if there's significant slow down later, but so far, I'm not really having any kind of difficulty playing the game and I'm thoroughly happy with my purchase.

My biggest concern is that this is going to be another triforce heroes. That game was a horrible single player experience.  I don't exactly have anyone to play with and playing with randos doesn't exactly appeal to me, but Metroid is my absolute favorite franchise, so there's no way I'm not going to own and play this game.

Does this feature a minigame in which you wash pikes?

38
I know what you mean, Ian! It's just like that time they made a sequel to Jak and Daxter, only it wasn't a colorful open world platformer, but instead it was a dark, gritty, dystopian GTA style game that didn't at all do well enough to receive multiple sequels and spin offs!

I got it and I really like it. The only real complaint I have is the little recharge mini game during the paper craft battles. The stations to recharge aren't limited use and the enemies literally just stop what they're doing and let you recharge, making that mini game feel very much like a waste of time and a step I shouldn't have to take. Like you said, there are only a handful of paper craft battles, so it's not a big complaint, but it still feels unnecessary. Outside of that, I absolutely love this game.

Would you recommend this over Dream Team?

42
Take this however you will, but I just want to point this fact out. The only version of this game that is up for pre order contains the amiibo. It's not sold out, pre orders are still available, there is no amiiboless version announced yet, so anybody who wants access to this optional dungeon has opportunity to get it. One more fact to note: this is, at least so far, a rumor.

I was playing with 2 randos last night and we were doing a "pop all of the balloons" challenge. We had one balloon left and I finally found it. I kept hitting the "over here" icon, but nobody came. I resorted to tracking one player down and carrying him clear across the stage while he hammered the "throw me" button, wanting me to put him down. When he saw the last balloon, he got it, but up to that point, I imagine he was pretty irritated as a player for a minute or so.
If we're absolutely avoiding voice chat, I don't know why we don't have a handful of meaningful pre loaded text messages instead of icons that could mean anything.

48
I'm actually having a pretty decent time playing mostly solo, although I did run into one boss that would have been WAY easier co-oping.

49
And yet, I still don't care.

50
Do you have to play online with friends, or can they just be randos?
