Nintendo Gaming / Re: Metroid Other M
« on: August 28, 2010, 02:44:10 PM »
Majority of the reviews are 8s or higher. G4 has always had horrible reviews. Not simply due to scores but how they've been written over time. The fact that nothing is really said about the game outside of story shows that. All games will have their outlier review scores. G4's in this case is to largely be ignored.

In the end their are simply opinions of these people.

I no longer care about reviews anyway. All I want to see is video of games to see how they look and play. I just want to know if controls are broken to the point it's unplayable. After that  I buy what seems interesting and judge for myself. I do take into consideration what other normal players think of the game. Those that have taken the time to play the game and aren't rushing simply to get a review out in order to get website traffic or TV ratings. Those paid to do "reviews" are always suspect in my eyes. I'm likely to consider a person blogging their opinion over someone employed on a game site like IGN, Gamespot, etc.

I'm not a big Metroid fan (I have the first one on the NES or it might have been the Gameboy one, Metroid Prime 1 and 3). I was impressed by the videos of Other M. I like the direction Team Ninja has seemed to take things and I'm looking forward to playing it. I'm not looking for some masterpiece when it comes to the story. Just to be entertained and to have fun. That's really all I look for when it comes to games. If it can do that for me personally then job well done.

Was this done before the live action Metroid Other M trailer/comercial came out? Curious as to what the RFN crew thinks about it.

It looked like her younger self was in the middle of doing something and it just looked like a thumbs down I think as you can see other troops moving slowly on the right side of that scene when Samus' back is to us.

Yup I think I'm done with Ubisoft. Between the DRM on their PC games (I love the Heroes of Might and Magic series but I just know their new DRM will be in it), lack of games that interest me on the 360 and PS3, and the crap they keep pulling on the Wii I think it's time I simple start ignoring them.

I've never played a Madden game before. To be honest never been that big on football games at all but this Franchise mode seems interesting. Though I have been thinking of forcing myself to learn more about the game. I pretty much just know the basics for the most part even then I'm iffy on that. Maybe this type of game could help with that. Or maybe not?

Nope. This art style is still a major turn off and keeps painting a negative picture of Square-Enix (mainly the Square side) for me in regard to Final Fantasy and Nintendo systems. This keeps screaming to me that Nintendo systems only deserve kiddfied spin offs in terms of look and/or content. Crystal Bearers while having an okay look is very simple in terms of content in the end. Childish actually looking back at it now that time has passed. That it came out looking the way it did I think was a fluke.

New dungeons would be nice. If they can someone add a system that random creates them then they could most likely due it without space being to much of an issue I think. The DLC just gives the game instructions to generate a particular area. At least that's my understanding how dungeon systems like that work.
That or let us stream data off of SD cards.

So, how many people changed their vote after Reggie said next year?
Still going to keep my vote for November. Just a feeling. Of course I can easily be wrong.

Same. I have an iPod Touch with OS4 on it and got the message that it wouldn't play. It downloads in iTunes and plays just fine once transfered over though.

Will be picking this up tomorrow morning if Best Buy has any copies left (ordered online for store pickup but was closed when the order went through. Will have to wait until tomorrow morning for confirmation.).  I didn't play the first one on VC but the videos has really peaked my interest. I wanted to get an action packed game to kick off the summer and it was this or the new Transformers game. However since I limit my PS3 and 360 purchases to used games if they are really cheap and to very specific games new games that aren't on the Wii (those purchases are very limited as well, one for each system a year is what I've decided upon now).

With the good reviews and decent commercial anyone think this could end up being a sleeper hit in the US?

TalkBack / Re: 4 Heroes of Light Has Depth of a Console Final Fantasy
« on: June 25, 2010, 06:23:35 PM »

Not totally sure what you mean.

I hope I can explain it. A lot of the non-Sony FF (not including pre-PlayStation here) titles aren't that good.  In many ways what they've offered are what some could consider to be "kiddified versions" of the franchise. From Chocobo games to games that look like this. It paints an picture that these games are for children and clearly are not on the level in terms of effort and worth as the PS1, PS2, and PS3 FF games. Comparing non-Sony FF products to the Sony products and I think that belief is very solid. That they had to defend the look of this game means that impression isn't lost on others as well as others are talking about it. I think it is something Square should be called out on because it goes to how they view the actual customer base on Nintendo systems and how they think they can get away with just pawning off for lack of a better word at the moment trash and think that it will sell on the Final Fantasy name alone. That they have to say that it's like a console offering in terms of content I think is a good thing and shows they on some level know how their offerings have been interpreted.

However I don't think it will go beyond that though. Don't think I care anymore.

The fact that they had to come out and actually defend 4 Heroes of Light made me simile. However I think that's as far things might go. I just wish someone would call them on this more.

To be honest I've given up on anyone in gaming "journalism" actually confronting Square-Enix about their Final Fantasy offerings on Nintendo handhelds and consoles. It's either a dumping ground for their old series so they can make some quick money to help finance their "true" Final Fantasy games or they pawn off spin-offs and childish games on the systems which I feel clearly don't have a fraction of the effort or care as the primary Final Fantasy series. Won't even go into budget.

I agree that Tactics though seems to have escaped this spin-off problem.

While I enjoyed The Crystal Bearers for what it was I was disappointed in the and I've sworn to myself that it will be my last Final Fantasy game. I didn't even bother with Final Fantasy 13 and not going to even if I see it used. After Kingdom Hearts 1 I haven't touched that series and don't plan to in the future. I'm really just tired of Square in general and I think the last time I actually really enjoyed what they offered was Final Fantasy 9. X was eh and the only reason I have FF12 is because it was a gift from my parents since they knew I was a FF fan. I don't think I even got a third of the way through before I had enough. The only reason I haven't decided against Dragon Quest 9 is because it's an Enix game and not Square game.

It isn't even due me perhaps being burnt out on RPGs. I loved Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect. Dragon Age was a lot of fun. Blue Dragon was enjoyable. Tales of Vesperia is great and long (still playing it) and Tales of Symphonia was one of the best RPGs I played in recent years. Baiten Kaitos was great and I'm really looking forward to Xenoblade and The Last Story. So I don't think I'm tired of RPGs. It has to be FF and Square.

Going to go with Nov 2010. I just have a feeling they will want to put a stop to whatever Sony and Microsoft are trying to do with their new control methods. The 3DS launch will dominate the gaming industry for months after the release. Things will sell out and we'll have lines for the system the same way there was some for the Wii. It gives them a chance to basically "relaunch" the Wii as well with new colors and their holiday games.

TalkBack / Re: Fils-Aime: Young Children Should Avoid Playing in 3D
« on: June 21, 2010, 05:27:24 PM »
Perhaps it has to do with the degree 3D is used in some movies. Perhaps something like Toy Story 3 has it's 3D implemented in a more subtle way compared to something that is aimed at adult such as Avatar. To much of it, if the special efforts group goes crazy, perhaps can be bad.

TalkBack / Re: Capcom Executive Sees the 3DS as a Threat to the PSP
« on: June 19, 2010, 03:46:22 PM »
I would ask why does he care what happens to the PSP line since he works at Capcom... but then it says right there he used to work for Sony. Mystery solved.

*Putting conspiracy hat on*
If I had to guess I'd say he's saying that because he like other publishers would rather develop on Sony consoles and hand helds. If the 3DS is a super hit like the DS was but with no limitations then they'd have no choice but to develop for it with serious effort. If not then serious questions would be asked of them by customers and investors. It would expose their anti-Nintendo stance with no cover up available. As long as their is a Sony alternative they can keep going as usual.
* Taking off conspiracy hat*
Maybe that's not to big of leap though.

We can only hope they started localization work while the game was in production to speed things up. They had to know there was a market for this based on past Xeno games. So hopefully they took this into account while making the game. Same for The Last Story. I hope they at least have done something like that as well.

TalkBack / Re: Analyst: 3DS May Cost $249-$299, Hit Japan First
« on: June 17, 2010, 04:02:04 PM »
If you throw out the 3D and the extra camera, it is only an incremental upgrade. A screen is a screen. There is no reason why that screen is so special as to jack up the price to such a degree. Even if the 3D screen was literaly two complete LCDs sandwiched together, that still wouldn't account for a $100+ price hike.
Yes throw out the two main things that make this more than just an incremental upgrade.  That'll fix your argument.  Don't forget to throw out the analog "stick" and bigger top screen while you're at it.

Then there is the significant graphical increase as well. Wish some people would stop purposefully ignoring things.

"Analyst" have been wrong about Nintendo a LOT this generation starting with the Nintendo DS 1. I don't think the 3DS will cost anymore then $199 at the most. It could even be less then that. They aren't about to price this higher then the Wii.
