Sonic 2 is even buggier and more frustrating than Sonic Adventure itself. With a screen thats way too small for its own good. You're making a billion trail-and-miss jumps in this game, not to mention some parts like the handglider parts are needlessly complicated. And sometimes Sonic refuses to Jump when you press the button. And this is Sonic 2, how come Sonic can spindash in the Genesis version but NOT the Game Gear version. I doubt they bothered to fix any of those problems, so....meh.

I don't know why all professional reviewers are giving this game bad reviews. I picked it up and have hardly noticed the big gripes they had. My framerate rarely slows down, never below 45 frames per second. My camera is rarely stuck on walls, and is generally easily un-stuck when it is. I also have no problem with the voice acting. The big problem for me is the "dubbing" of the voice onto the characters moving mouth. It was horrendous on DC, and was never addressed.

The Game Gear Sonic and Sonic 2 were in development at the same time. They were being developed the same time Sonic 2 was getting the finishing touches on Genesis. They never added the spin dash to either GG version because they had started them when Sonic was finished on Genesis, and that never featured it. Tails as an after thought on the GG Sonic 2. He wasn't even playable.

The spin dash, AND a new super boost were then added to the next GG Sonic game, Sonic Chaos. This new type of speed boost never made it into a Genesis Sonic, however.

Heh.  I was just reading the review on Gamespot.  I actually burst out laughing when I read this part.

but once you realize that most of the Sonic Game Gear games weren't all that great to begin with--and that some of them actually have some slowdown issues--your interest in collecting enough emblems to unlock all of them will diminish.

That has got to be the saddest thing I have ever heard.  Not being able to run a GameGear game properly on GameCube is just inexcusable.

No, the Game Gear games always had slowdown. The limitations of an 8-Bit hand held. Some levels in Sonic 2 featured a mass of explosions, and you'd get dreaded flicker and slowdown. Sonic Chaos was often too much for the poor little thing to handle, as they tried to push silicon graphics on the Game Gear and Master System.

It's perfect emulation. I'd actually hate Sega if they fixed it
I'm strange like that.

They're just lazy like that...

Oh well I'd still like them. I'm still gonna get SADX.

/me blinks
I could have sworn I clicked on a GCN l2 launch topic.  Oh well.  Sonic Chaos on GG was a lot of fun, the problem for me was that it was too easy.  A friend of mine owns all of the sonic games for GG, so I have played them all.  I like most of them except sonic 2, I hate it.  I dealt with the slowdown then, and on a TV screen, it likely looks a bit better than the screen that shunned all outside light.  A decent enough incentive to collect the medals.

Heh, I just completely finished the game. 60 missions/130 emblems/30 Metal Sonic emblems. I think reviewers have been a little harsh with it. Even though it's old, and pretty glitchy, it's EXTREMELY fun. And there's tons of replay value in it.

Woah, that's impressive Rogue!
I got the game on Friday, I've finished it with all characters, and now I'm doing second and third missions to earn those damn emblems. I REALLY want to unlock Sonic 2. My favorite of them all on Master System/Game Gear.

I was also surprised how Sega changed Sonic Chaos for the Game Gear. The Master System version had heaps better music.. And I could of swarn it was harder than that! I beat it in 15 minutes! Without Chaos Emeralds, that is

I must say, after playing my rental copy, this was seriously much much easier than Sonic Adventure 2. It is fun, yes. But I'm now disappointed. I might wait for this to be a budget title than get it right away, since I've nearly beaten the game. (I'm after the GG games y'know)

And that Mission Mode is glitchy, it seems as if missions wont start unless a different one in the level is finished. Bad Sonic Team! *Thwap*

Yeah, Sonic Adventure 2 offered a much better challenge. That last Sonic level with all the rail grinding in space was an utter nightmare for me.

I do enjoy the original, more though. The levels seem to be set out alot better. Plus the Knuckles' missions don't have that awful rap music going

Has that game on the Game Gear and never beat it.
