Or, they could shoot the movies together, and still consider it one movie, but they just have different names.  Or a verbal understanding was made with the actors and actresses.  This changes nothing about your schedule, it just means we are branding the one large movie as 2 separate movies...but you will still be free at the end.  Or Disney decided to re-brand the heroes.

It will be interesting if Disney decides to use the Infinity Storyline to put some diversity into the lineup.  I think Sam Wilson Captain America would be very easy to pull off, much better than Winter Soldier Captain America.  I would also love to see Tony Stark get injured to the point that he has to be sidelined and we get a Pepper Potts Iron Man.  One of those facts that could be revealed as a surprise in the second Infinity War movie.  Thor and Hulk should come back eventually so that they could give familiarity to the new Avengers team.  And Hawkeye needs to retire and take care of his family. 

Then you could have a pretty diverse lineup for Avengers phase 4.

There has to be more of a consequence than that.  A lot of the actors are signed on for one more Avengers movie.  They were getting around that by making one movie into two movies.  If it's now just the one movie and then a separate movie, wouldn't that require new contracts?  Or new Avengers?

They were never getting around contracts by splitting one movie into two parts. That is not how the contracts work, otherwise ironman would have been a 3pt single movie.
And SAG would have never allowed that.

I don't know if you all had heard this, or even want to know, but there are some story details floating around about Thor: Ragnarok, and they are supported by set pics that were "leaked" today.

I don't have the details exactly, as I wasn't looking to know, but supposedly Loki scrambles Odins mind and sends him to earth to live as a hobo. Odin is supposedly a crazy old hobo on the streets talking whatever nonsense (end of the world?) and that's where Thor (& Loki?) find him.
I don't know how this related to Thor holding Dr. Strange's address on a sticky note, but it could have something to do with restoring the All Father Odin.

Other than that, I believe the rest of the movie is Planet Hulk (+Thor) w/ an 80's vibe and soundtrack.
