What is Nintendo planning?
« on: September 26, 2006, 09:03:56 AM »
For those who don't follow Cheap Ass Gamer, many 1st party GameCube titles have been dropping in price lately - to the $15-$20 range (I'm about to go pick up a $15 Chibi Robo myself).

Is this just Nintendo/Stores attempting to clear out old GCN inventory or... something else?

Price drops? Consider yourself lucky, we don't get those here.

I'm sure it's to clear out old inventory.  With two new consoles on the horizon, and seven systems already in stores, it's time to clean up the shelves..before people start thinking about upgrading!

But this gets me thinking...tonight I'd better visit TRU.

I wish they'd do that with the systems too... I'd love to replace my Cube.

Um, I don't see a big conspiracy here. A lot of Xbox and PS2 games are cheap too.

I think come Jan or Feb I am going to be hitting all the stores finding the best discounted prices for Gamecube games I missed.  Hopefully I will be able to find some in the Teens...as in price, not age.

Don't wait that long, Spak-Spang.  Today, I picked up Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars and Chibi-Robo for $15 each and a second copy of Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (with Bongos) for $20.

You need to get out there now if you want some of these deals.

Now, while I'm willing to agree that these price drops are just to clear out inventory, picture a store like Wal*Mart having one of those PDQ cardboard stands by the Electronics Department on the day the Wii comes out, full of AAA GameCube games (with a big splash on them that say they also play on the Wii) for $20 (or less).  Just a thought

UncleBob:  I went to Toys R Us and found Fire Emblem gone.  The only reason I am waiting is to save money for the Wii.  In Jan or Feb I am hoping for equally low or lower prices as stores try to make even more prominent space for all the new consoles.  I am quite surprised that GBA floor space is still bigger than the Nintendo DS.

Which would fit in with my idea of the big display of the Best of GameCube titles...

By the way, I forgot to mention, Best Buy had Odama for $29.99 as well.

Eh, there weren't any particularly good deals here in Northernland either.  I saw Killer 7 for $20, and almost picked it up, but that money is earmarked for F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur II above all else.
