The Bourne Legacy - Le sigh.

So, surprised no one else has mentioned seeing this yet. Finally took the plunge myself. Was excited when I saw the trailer since it seemed like the direction they seemed to show indicated that it had good potential to work as a follow-up. I've had my own ideas as to how I would have continued the franchise but the trailer looked like the film might be alright.

That said, I'd have to say the film was best summed up when, as I got up to leave during the credits, two girls walked by me and one said to the other, "Well, that was underwhelming." And I have to agree. And I even came in with guarded, lowered expectations.

As I walked out of the theatre, in my head, I was going through all the faults the film made and what the writers must have been thinking as making the script. They just seemed so clear when watching this and even more after it ended.

I'll get into them more in a little bit but as I type this a wave of sleepiness as hit me so I'm just going to call it a night.

I had watched Universal Soldiers to lower my expectations before watching Battleship. It didn't work. No that isn't the JCVD movie, it's something entirely wrong. Note the extra "s" on the end. It's an Asylum movie so I was expecting something awful and I got exactly that. Watch this if you want a prime example of how to fail at basic film making. Between this abortion and Battleship, it is a surprisingly fair fight as which one is the worse movie. They both contain horrifically miscast "Actors" playing hateful "Characters" in a plot that is to be generous to be called stupid. Despite US many, many failures on a very basic level like having the mic exposed in the wind rendering entire sections of the movie inaudible, nonsense cam usage, gratuitous use of computer filters, disconnected plot. But I have to say that Battleship is the worse movie for spending 200 million freaking dollars to be such a failure. And yes, both movies have a sequel hook to something nobody sane would want.
At least US gives new meaning to the word "Logged".
Yes this happens repeatedly to half the cast members.

Jeremy Renner isn't an action star, but they keep miscasting him as one. He is best as a low key, but very intense character in a dramatic role like in Hurt Locker.

I saw it last week but forgot to mention it. The film is ultimately a setup to make more.

That's all i can say.

Saw it Friday, I feel the same way. The first half of the movie felt like two things happening at the same time that had little to do with eachother. The plot just felt so "blah."

Total Recall - I need oohhboy to see this.

I won't spoil the film but i did enjoy:

1 -The film being set in London, yet they board a blatantly NYC Subway train with London Underground stickers on it. There's a reason why its called "the tube". We don't even have stations like that.
2 - The trip in "the fall" is announced to be 17 minutes, yet Hauser sets the bomb to 15. But it doesn't detonate BEFORE the journey is finished.
3 - A couple of scenes where clothes appear and disappear.

Hilarious. So glad i have my unlimited card, otherwise i'd want a refund.

Looks like a movie I won't be paying money to see. Either way, it looks like a movie that will make you pay for watching it.

I watched bits and pieces of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. **** this movie is stupid, not Battleship stupid, but watching Ben Kingsley once again shame himself on screen is both pleasing and sad. $200000000 clearly dosn't go far in Hollywood. Not too sure where the money went. Forgettable drivel.

Did you notice how the "feel" and some of the set design between Prince of Persia and John Carter was very similar?

I haven't seen John Carter, but from what I saw in the trailers it's unmistakeable. Of course only one of them had completed bombed and became the "New Ishtar".

I believe "Two magicians having a stupid yet Epic cock fight and Nikola Tesla is the real magician" is a more accurate description.

Pretty good movie all the same.

Today i'm seeing The Possession. Will get back to you all on that.

Here one of the mobile/cell phone networks does something called Orange Wednesday. You need to text a number to get a code, but two people can go for the price of one (and get 2 for 1 at a Pizza Restaurant too). Because i have that unlimited card i count as the "paying" customer, the other person sees the movie for free.

So what usually happens is i get a massive rush of people usually asking if they can see a film with me because they won't pay.

Just watched the Avengers.

It's an adequate movie. The action is pretty good and thankfully well shot, but the cuts are still a hair too fast for you to properly appreciate an action in it's full entirety. When it finally gets enough breathing room some of the dialogue is good like between Stark and Loki. Visually nice except when Samuel L Jackson first steps out of that helicopter, wow that was just bad.

Then there are a lot of issues that drag this movie down. Each one are individually small, but taken as a whole is a real anchor. Outside of those special moments, the dialogue is shallow, cliched, almost robotic in a way that it's forcing its way through in order to reach the next action scene. You could almost put a stop watch to the "Jokes" with them arrive at predicable intervals. While none of the "Jokes" were outright groaners, it felt held back or focus grouped.

The plot was basically "Something happening so we can have some sort of fight", functional, predictable. The pacing was goose stepping to a metronome, just moving on because it's "time".

Accents and language use was all over the place. Romanov couldn't decide whether to have a Russian accent or an American one. Thor was switching between modern English and some generic variant of "Ye olden timey English" mid sentence. Pick one damn it or just go full on Shakespearean assuming the actor was up to the task.

Samuel L Jackson was playing a director of a military spy agency who is Samuel L Jackson. Captain America was a wooden robot with an eternal boo boo. Thor is physically there, but he should either stop thinking altogether or stop and think because whatever he is doing right now isn't working for him. Stark is toned down and held back. Black Widow and Hawkeye were the same character with different weapons. I like Cobie Smulders but she was horribly mis-casted. Banner was the only character that "worked".

The worse thing about this movie was that the whole team infighting thing just doesn't work. There isn't enough history between the characters. They are just openly belligerent to each other with no reason. There is just not enough time for everybody even with the simple plot.

It is an adequate entertaining, unemotional superhero movie with some very blatant ploys to emulate a emotional connection.7/10

"Planet of the Dinosaurs," a horrible 1978 sci-fi movie with stop-motion dinosaurs. The stop-motion dinosaurs are...okay, but not great. The most notable thing about the film is that the producer is Steven Czerkas, who's a fairly well-known paleoartist.

One more thing I didn't like about the Bourne Legacy: the constant switch from a scene in a dark room to a bright white blanket of snow in the first 3rd of the movie. I really dislike it when movies do that. That **** hurts my eyes.

I didn't gleam that from the film's subtext at all. That could have been a decent enough excuse to explain it away though. Those tricky, chaotic gods...

I knew it was bad going in, I just had no concept of something this bad that had cost $200 Million dollars to make. Before Battleship, the bad movies I have watched had something notable about the that was positive, Even Transformers 2 with Jetfire's mad ramblings. I have nothing but outright hatred for Battleship.

Well, of course it was Loki. It's just such transparent ploy that having the Heros fall for it was laughable. Then you had Banner's anger revelation later that makes it even more stupid.
