As you can see here there IS a Wii game that ONLY uses the Wii-mote, proving it's merit as a stand alone controller.

It's an RPG (of sorts)! Dragon Quest too!!

If you didn't know RPG's are my fav game type. (long live Zelda!) So this is doubly satisfying. Although not specifically what I wanted in terms of controlling the character I still think this is a step in the right direction.
