The Deal Machine - May 2010

Post your feedback on Dealy's fine work here.

Just don't make any suggestions, his cold, soulless, heart doesn't like it when you make suggestions.

Wario Land Shake It! is a great game, anyone with an interest in platformers should consider picking it up.
Dawn of Discovery has always been out of stock the few times I wanted to buy it. I'll get it eventually...
I'm not really into sports, so for a football game to interest me, it'd have to offer a twist. Academy of Champions sounds like a good idea on paper, but it would appear it wasn't executed well. I'll pass.

Animal Crossing IS the same game as before and the other two
I haven't played the others, but from what I read, it has quite a few new nifty features. I don't know what else you would expect from a SEQUEL to a game like Animal Crossing, other than building on what's there.

Forgive me Dealy, but I'm not sure if these are permanent price drops or one-off Amazon/etc sales.

Dealy got his price data from a site other than Amazon, a company that is less likely to do sales.  A game selling location, that's a one shop stop for new and used software.

Crimm, you need to do an entire episode of RFN in character as Dealy. It would be fantastic.

Pretty neat. But I thought we would get 4 DS games as well? Or will it switch off each time on the platform? Or is it purely random, and we could get any mixture of them at once?

I own three of those games.

I have AC and it is currently the game on top of my most played list on the Nintendo Channel and until Monster Hunter was the only one to break 100 hours other than Conduit (might have passed Conduit at this point). Never played the game before as I didn't think it would interest me but GP convinced me to give it a try and am I glad I took her advise.

I have Wario Land but have not finished it yet. Quite fun though.

I have an unopened copy of DoD on my shelf waiting to be played. I should try that soon. Probably before Civ 5 comes out because that will be gobbling up any time I want to spend on strategy games for a good while.

I like this feature...lol, features.

It is totally random. I'm going to dig into the data Dealy saved off to see how many DS games it has, I wonder if my $15 standard is too low.

If it has a bunch of DS stuff and luck of the draw kicked in I'll do some changes to force it to select 2 of each.

Well they could have made the area completely different.  There is no reason why you're still paying off your debt to Tom Nook.  Or that K.K. Slider is the musician or Tortimer is the mayor.  A true sequel to Animal Crossing would have had completely different characters to interact with.  Instead it's just the same game but they add a few new things each time.  Hell the game still uses a fixed perspective.  Why couldn't they make a full 3D version?

Anyway, Animal Crossing IS worth buying if you don't any other version.  It is a great game, it's just that you only need one version of it.  Might as well get the Wii version if you don't have it.

Warioland however is a great game.  If you're all ga-ga over NSMB Wii and don't have Warioland you're a damn hypocrite!  Warioland is classic 2D platforming.  And it uses SPRITES.  No lazy-ass recycled Gamecube polygons here.  Warioland is absolutely gorgeous.  No Wii game has ever visually wowed my friends except Warioland.  It makes you wish that more 2D console games were made and were made with this quality of artwork.

Wario Land looks puzzly rather than acrobatic.  That doesn't look classic.  I'm looking for jumping and more jumping.

Wario Land isn't multiplayer, either, which means I can't punish my friends.

It may have surfaced somewhere else, but as the story goes, I got the game, was set to review it, and then was so damn disapointed by it that Zach reviewed it.

I gathered from your blog entry about the game that you were going to be disappointed in the final product.

This reminds me of a suggestion I had. Have you folks considered getting one of those voice recognition programs which types out whatever you say? Then you could post a written version of the podcasts with no extra effort! It'd be great for people like me who are interested in the topics but can't/don't like to listen to them.

Imagine the editing nightmare that would be. Though I guess the show is already a monstrous beast to edit to the production standard it has set.

I was thinking more along the lines of thought-stream styled impressions and previews. Talk about the game while playing and the computer records your thoughts as you go.

Editing the text portion wouldn't be necessary. Just make it clear it is a direct transcript. People who want a text version likely wouldn't care; I know I wouldn't.
