Discuss in talkback!

This abstract puzzle game is coming to the Wii U and many other systems!

Dreii, an iOS puzzle game by Etter Studio, is coming to various consoles later this year. We spoke briefly with Joon-Yeung Kim from the company to discuss the ideas behind this game.

Nintendo World Report (NWR): I'm here with Joon-Yeung Kim to talk about Dreii, a puzzle game coming to the Wii U hopefully later this year, could you give an introduction, what you do at the studio and of course, about yourself?

Joon-Yeung Kim (JK): I'm a 3D artist and I had the opportunity to work with Christian Edder on Dreii.

NWR: I assume the Nintendo space never heard about Dreii, how would you describe the game?

JK: It's a physics puzzle game, you can play the game online, and it's a cross platform game.

NWR: What immediately stood out to me is the game is about working together, it feels very connected. Puzzle games are usually solo focused experiences, why was such a decision made?

JK: Actually, the idea behind it was to make a game for a social experience, he had the idea of making a puzzle game online where you are connected to other players but you don't really speak to them. So you have to collaborate and figure out "ok, what does the other person want from me?" so you have to work together and that's a really interesting part of the game.

NWR: In the game you work together to build towers, and this concept carries all the way through. How do you keep it fresh?

JK: As you get further in the game, you have different obstacles and also physics attributes in your levels. For instance, you look at boxes and objects you can't move.

NWR: The game is coming to consoles and PC, which is a huge step up from mobile. What are you doing to make this transition a natural one?

JK: The input is very intuitive for the consoles for the Wii U, or the Vita you can use the touchpad, for the PC you can use the mouse buttons, so it's easy to play.

NWR: Are you planning anything in the way of new content for this new version?

JK: I think there will be an update with more levels.

NWR: In the press release you sent out, it indicates you can interact with players on other platforms. Can you elaborate on that?

JK: It's a cross platformer so someone can play it on the Vita and you can play it on the Wii U, and you can play together.

NWR: That's very unusual.

JK: It is, but we have someone who's very good at the business side of things.

NWR: I must say, after watching a trailer for the game, I was charmed with how the game looks and sounds. How much emphasis was put on that during the development of the game?

JK: It was very important for us that the look is good and clean and simple, but still you as a player are charmed by it. For the sound, we had different testings with the sounds and I think it's working very great with the look and the sounds.

NWR: Is there anything else you wanted to mention about Dreii?

JK: I hope that you like our game!

NWR: That's the most important part. Thank you so much.

JK: Thank you!
