Here's a rundown of what you can get day one (and beyond) with Disney Infinity.

Next Sunday, Disney Infinity will debut on Wii and Wii U (alongside a 3DS mini-game collection that we haven’t seen much of). Disney’s take on Skylanders features a variety of well-known characters that you can play with in both familiar adventures with Play Sets and whatever crazy worlds you (or others) can make in the Toy Box. Read about Play Sets and Toy Box more in our previous coverage of Disney Infinity.

Each starter kit comes with the game disc, a base (to place the toys), three play sets, three figures, and a power disc. The three play sets feature the worlds of Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters University, and The Incredibles. You can only play in those play sets with a character from that world, so the included figures likewise match up with the sets and include Jack Sparrow, Sulley, and Mr. Incredible respectively. The included power disc is picked randomly from the first series.

On day one, you can pick up two additional play sets as well: The Lone Ranger, which comes with The Lone Ranger and Tonto, and Cars, which comes with Lightning McQueen and Holley Shiftwell. The rest of the figures available, which bring the amount of characters available at launch up to 17, can be used in the Toy Box and the existing play sets. While they are all available individually, some will be on sale in bundles that will save you a little bit of money. Additionally, some retailer-exclusive figures will be available, but when they will be available is uncertain. Toys”R”Us is going to be hosting the “crystal” variants, which are light-colored variations on Jack Sparrow, Sulley, Mr. Incredible, and Lightning McQueen. In addition to the different color, which reflects in game, the crystal figures also feature a stat boost and level up faster. See the full list below for what characters will be available in what bundles.

  • Davy Jones (Available separately and in Villains Pack w/ Randy and Syndrome)
  • Barbossa (Available separately and in Sidekicks Pack w/ Mike and Mrs. Incredible)
  • Mike (Available separately and in Sidekicks Pack w/ Barbossa and Mrs. Incredible)

The power discs are a whole other slew of collectables that either boost your character or add items and new scenery to the Toy Box. The circular discs are placed underneath your character, while the hexagonal ones are placed on the play set portion of the base while you are in the Toy Box. See below for the list of what will be available in blind packs at launch, as well as some that are exclusive to different retailers.

Circular Discs (boosts your character in Play Sets or the Toy Box):

  • Bolt’s Super Strength (10% damage boost)
  • Fix It Felix’s Repair Power (20% more health)
  • C.H.R.O.M.E’s Armor Shield (receive 10% less damage)
  • Pieces of Eight (Gain 10% more loot)

This looks incredibly awesome, but the investment just doesn't do it for me. That money could go to new games with new experiences. Still, Disney Infinity would be fun to try.

When can we expect to see an official NWR review? We're not sure what platform to get it on (either PS3, 360, or Wii U). I saw some tearing in some footage from another site (I think the 360 version) so I'm wary that the other consoles will have that as well.
