Discuss in talkback!

Mega Man games are 20 percent off, e-books are a thing on the 3DS, and Dragon Quest X gets a card battler this week!

Well, here we are, a little less than a week into the Wii U’s life in Japan, and while there are quite a few retail titles available on the eShop, there really isn’t anything else to write home about. The 3DS download space is still going strong, though. More retail games, a Dragon Quest card battler, and an e-book service launched this week. There is even a special sale going on in honor of Mega Man’s 25th anniversary and all of his Famicom releases on the 3DS are 20 percent (100 yen) off from now until January 7 at 9:59 p.m.! Here’s a complete look at what is available on both platforms:

Video Content

Video Content is a bit light this week. The 3DS has a few new videos for the service related items—Dokodemo Honya-san (e-book service) and the Dragon Quest X camera application. The e-book service provides 3DS owners a chance to purchase books so that they can take them around on their 3DS wherever they go. The application is free, but the video tells us that most popular manga titles and so forth will be available at their standard pricing of 400 to 600 yen each. You can even make a profile that highlights the manga you have purchased and are reading. I’m not exactly sure how this works, but I’m sure it comes in handy with the game’s StreetPass functionality. SpotPass is also utilized for receiving manga catalog information.

The Dragon Quest X application seems a bit strange. You are able to take a picture of yourself, a friend, or a complete stranger and put them into a monster card to battle against other monsters. Owners of the Wii version of Dragon Quest X also can get special rewards for clearing specific stages. Keep holding your breath for the release of applications like this, as well as Dragon Quest X, in the West.
