If you're in Boston for PAX East 2011, this is a must-see panel. Everyone else is invited, too, we're live with audio and video!

We are thrilled to return to PAX East for our second annual live podcast panel. It's just like a regular episode of Radio Free Nintendo, but with an audience, and different speakers, and much shorter, and all of us sounding very nervous. Actually, it's not at all like a normal podcast... but it will be fantastic anyway!

The panel kicks off on Saturday, March 12 at 10:30am in the Cat Theater at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. We sincerely hope you will be there to take in the panel's full glory. If not, please tell your luckier, PAX-attending friends to be there, and pimp it on message boards, Twitter, Facebook, etc. We want to have a huge crowd so PAX will keep letting us come back!

The link for the live audio stream follows, alternatively use the embedded player (left): MP3 Stream.

Watch the panel live on Ustream

If you absolutely have to miss the fun in Boston, don't worry -- we'll bring the fun to you! The audio will definitely be recorded and added to the podcast subscription feed ASAP. We also plan to take video of the panel and will post that as time and quality permit. Finally, we also have ideas for hosting a live stream of the panel. No promises, as it depends largely on the quality of WiFi access at the convention, but we'll do our best. If we can stream the panel, it will appear in this article, so bookmark this page now and check back Saturday morning! We'll also add links to all the recordings in this article, after the fact.

Finally, if you are going to PAX East, look out for your friendly Nintendo World Report crew and be sure to introduce yourself! We love to meet our fans and ask them crazy things like "What's your favorite Pokemon?" So yeah, be prepared.

Wait, how does Daylight Savings Time factor into this? Is the panel really at 9:30?

DST always kicks in Saturday night / Sunday morning, so it will be after the panel. In any case, the time is the time -- there is never any ambiguity unless you're talking about the hour between 2:00am and 3:00am. If you say 10:30, it's 10:30.

2am springs forward to 3am. So does that mean the Drunkcast party is going to be an extra hour longer or an hour shorter?

Neither... do you understand that time and clocks are two different things? Are you just trolling?

Just generating hype for Pax East Podcast 2, the world needs to know.

This has bugged me since your last PAX podcast, but is it really necessary to add on the tagline "A Live Nintendo Podcast for Grown-Ups"?  You guys have a really well-respected podcast that I've heard mentioned on several other well-respected podcasts (such as Weekend Confirmed), and that tag-line sounds unintentionally desperate ("Please listen to us!  We're a podcast FOR GROWN-UPS!").

But Nintendo is teh kiddie console!!!!111

Ah, doesn't bug me. My body is ready.

Lookin' forward to it.  Started listening to RFN the week before PAX East '10, then overheard Mr. (now Dr.) Metts behind me at the Bit.Trip Runner demo, and recognized him through his voice.  Dulcet tones, I tell ya.  Hope to say hello soon.  Good luck y'all.

Not to speak for Jonny, but I always interpreted that as being tongue in cheek. The use of the term "grown up" just kind of sounds silly, so it's a way to tell people that we don't take ourselves that seriously.

I still think we should've named this sequel panel "Radio Free Nintendo: A Live Nintendo Podcasts for Man-Children."

Yep, it's meant to be funny. It may not be working. ;-)

This, the live demo of Deus Ex, and the concert with Powerglove and the Video Game Orchestra are all happening on the one day of the convention that's completely sold out. None of these things were mentioned by their respective parties before the tickets sold out. What gives?

We announced this panel as soon as we got confirmation of it in late January, not only with a blog post on the site but also frequent mentions on the podcast itself.

As it turns out, it doesn't matter, as I managed to secure a three-day pass at face value for myself! Probably going to see you guys there, provided nothing else is going on at the same time (which I doubt).

I can't wait!
I won't be able to go, but I am looking foward to your quirkiness on video, and on my mp3 player.

"Radio Free Nintendo: A Live Nintendo Podcasts for Man-Children."

A much better name! Use that next time!

Radio Free Nintendo: a Live Nintendo Podcast for Man-Beams

sounds much better to me :)
sorry, I couldn't resist.  ;D

I look forward to the recording and hopefully the video, last year's one was great!
too bad that Greg couldn't go, I'd have liked to see every member at the panel.

happyastoriaMarch 11, 2011

Greg is the Hal of NWR. Does he really exist?  :-\

NeoStar9XMarch 12, 2011

Hope everything goes well this year. I enjoyed last years podcast.

I wonder if the attendance got boosted by Chris Kohler throwing the show a plug during the Retronauts panel on Friday.

Couldn't have hurt! For the record, Kohler's own panel on Saturday night, the Video Games Antique Roadshow, was excellent and filled one of the largest theaters. We have learned that panels starting after the exhibit floor closes get a huge boost in attendance.

Hey, folks. Just wanted to let you know that the panel audio is cut and encoded and pretty much ready to go. We're just uploading it now on the REALLY slow con center Wi-Fi. Once it's up, Greg can put it up on the site and get it to all of you. If I had to put a timeline on it, I'd expect it to be done uploading within an hour. Hopefully less, but it's literally like 25 KB/sec. Nothing we can do about that right now. Even so, you should be getting your RFN fix around the usual time.

No need to rush.  I'm now about 2 months behind on my RFN podcasts (lots of work and I've been playing games in my free time where I actually want to hear the audio), so take your time.  ;)
