What PGC got for the Holidays!

by the NWR Staff - January 3, 2002, 9:54 am EST

PGC had a pretty great holiday season, complete with gifts of all kinds. Inside, we'll tell you what we got!

Happy Holidays!

While the PGC crew was diligently balancing the site with all of the various holiday festivities, we wanted to take some time and share with you what we gifts we received for our holiday celebrations … and maybe a few New Year's Resolutions to boot!

(Be sure to check this feature later. Some of our staffers are STILL on vacation, and may update later!)

Rick: Ol' Rick did pretty well this Christmas. Especially considering my Birthday falls on Christmas Eve. I always get a lot of gifts, but get the shaft the rest of the year.

My lovely wife got me a couple of T-Shirts (Rick's standard uniform), one that says "I'm not unemployed, I'm a consultant", and one that says "My computer is bigger, better and faster than yours." Both suit me admirably. She also got me Super Smash Bros. Melee, SSX Tricky and Pikmin, the new Creed CD, Rush Hour 2 on DVD, and some other pretty great stuff.

The in-laws got me two more GameCube controllers so I can get some four-player Melee on, Pearl Harbor, Fight Club, The Matrix Revisited and the Godfather collection on DVD, as well as some other things.

My best friend got me three "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" action figures, and Memento on DVD.

But one of my favorite gifts came from my Dad. Dad got me a personalized, autographed photo of Bill Goldberg (from the now defunct WCW) for my birthday. Apparently, Dad waited in line for an hour to get that for me. Dad’s super-cool … Thanks, Dad.

Anyway, it was a really nice Christmas. The day after Christmas, we went shopping. I needed to exchange some duplicate movies, as well as some slippers that don't fit. Plus, it looks like Rick had just enough Christmas cash to get a GameCube Mobile Monitor ... w00t! Of course, Rick is also a bit impatient, and didn’t even notice that the Mobile Monitor I picked up was a Black one. My Cube is Purple … whoops.

For my New Year's Resolutions, I'm going to try to get my new company off the ground (since the post-economy-slowdown has stalled the job hunt), and try to lose some weight. I'm already down a couple of pounds. w00t!

Jonny: My main presents were a VCR (which I needed for the dorm room) and a DVD player. I'm trading the DVD player in for one with progressive scan, but overall they were both things I needed and wanted very much. Other than that, I got a couple of DVDs, Crouching Tiger and The Phantom Menace, the new Pink Floyd Echoes CD, which I wanted mainly for "When the Tigers Broke Free" (damn I'm hardcore), a nice sweater, a book of guitar tabs, some gift certificates to Best Buy and Sound Shop, and a decent bit of cash. This is actually the first Christmas in probably fifteen years that I haven't gotten a video game or peripheral...wow. Then again, after spending $500 on GameCube since November, I guess there wasn't much else for me to ask for by Christmas. For New Year's, I'm resolving to lose about ten pounds; however, I'm starting NOW so I have a running start by then. We'll see how that works out. It's hard to be both physically lethargic and orally fixated.

Max: My parents got me a buncha clothes. Some nice sweaters and slacks. They almost never get me video game stuff. So I hooked it up nice for myself this Xmas!

I spent my entire paycheck (and then some!) on a pre-modded indigo GameCube with switch, 4 controllers, S-Video cable, one Memory Card 59 and Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros Melee, Wave Race Blue Storm and Pikmin! All the Nintendo goods left little monies to get gifts for others, but I know this was one of my merriest Christmases ever! Plus, with the oh-so-portable Cube and 4 controllers, I've been able to share the love.

Mike K: I really didn’t get much this Christmas. I basically had my Christmas early this year on November 18th, when I got my Nintendo GameCube and ton of games for the console. For Christmas I just got clothes, CDs (Incubus – 2 CDs), movie (Rush Hour 2), Windows XP, a Relic watch, and other smaller items.

Some of my New Year’s resolutions are to:

Play GameCube twice as much

Help PGC one of the best Nintendo content website on the internet.

Get hitch to a woman with a lot of money.

Sleep

Mike O.: A very nice silk duvay (sp?) that has a red, gold, and black color scheme. An awesome entertainment center setup for my consoles (PS2, XBox, GameCube, DC, N64... no more sitting on the floor!). An 'American Crew' bundle of shampoo, gel, and cologne. Cookies (baked by co worker. They were damn good).

1 pair of sweatpants

1 pair of silk boxers

And a bunch of gift certificates and checks.

2 CheapAss games (www.cheapass.com) (Kill Dr. Lucky and Give Me the Brain)

The Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven Kent

Andres: Santa got me:

- A broken primary IDE connector for my computer (along with a backlog of 1300 emails in my PGC mail account when I finally did get a chance to log on today) o_O

- A terrible job (although it pays decently o_O)

...oh yes, I did also get:

- Super Smash Bros. Melee

- Memory Card 59

- Indigo GCN controller

- Zelda: Oracle of Ages

Not to mention a copy of the Macross II movie on DVD, a whole gamut of nice clothing and a spiffy new watch.

Also, I must mention that I was able to purchase a GCN (Black d'oh) and a copy of Pikmin thanks to an exceedingly good samaritan, whom I will keep anonymous, per his request. Thank you.

Michael C.: Just SSBM and Mario Advance 2 (Import). Too bad I/my family got ripped off on the latter.

David: Well, considering that I had been saving very long for the GameCube launch, no stone was left unturned in that department come December 25th. However, having bought a PS2 this summer, there were a few holes to fill I suppose. I ended up with Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (PS2) which is a pretty cool game, but would be much better if I had someone to co-op with. And I got the Simpsons first season on DVD. The Simpsons are great, but I regret to say that the extras on this DVD are merely average. I still wanted it for the season itself though. Finally, in a weird, part Christmas and mostly "thanks for paying your way through college with two scholarships" from my parents I wrangled a brand new Dell computer (they got my old one, and my brother got their old one). Windows XP is nice by the way. However, my real Christmas this year was on November 16th when I walked out of Sam Goody on a Friday morning with a black GameCube (two days early).

Billy says: Ironically I didn't get any games this year for Christmas. I'm too impatient anyway. I did pick up Golden Sun as a present to myself though. ;)

I did get some Nintendo related merchandise framed for the holidays. The first thing was my Edge #100 cover that Shigeru Miyamoto designed that I had autographed at Spaceworld 2001. The second thing was a movie sized GameCube poster Shigeru's translator Yasuhiro Minagawa gave me at Spaceworld 2001. He told me not to sell it on E-bay. HA! I carried this sucker for 29 days in Japan and it survived. It deserved to be framed. And finally my Brett Favre autographed Jersey from E3 2000. I think somewhere in our archives you can still find a picture of it. If it weren't for Planet, I never would have recieved these.

Outside of that I got a National (same as panasonic) Rice Cooker from my sister (word) so I can cook 9345763948735 pounds of white rice. Yummy! Outside of that I got some clothes, and a gift certificate for a 2 hour maid service to clean my apartment from Merry Maids. Hell yeah! Special thanks to my family for an awesome Christmas. :)

Louie got Catnip cookies, a Santa catnip toy (already eaten), and a 24 pack of monster glitter balls. He's too busy playing Golden Sun to type anything, so I felt I'd put his two cents in. Actually I think he's too geeked out on the Catnip cookies.

New Years Resolutions? Help keep planet alive through 2002, and lose my fat ass. I'm joining a goddamn health club tomorrow. Booth babes will flock to TEH CRAZZZEEE BILLEH AT E3 2002! Or that's what I will continually be telling myself as I puke on the treadmill. Also I want a job...I think. :)

Karlie: Well, my parents decided they didn't want me around this Christmas so they packed me off to Hong Kong... sort of. I had to renew my passport.

So that was that, and I spent my own money on an ORANGE GAMECUBE! I mean really really Orange. Oranges wilt at the colour. It's nicely modded, and I have Dairantou Smash Bros. DX and Rogue Leader along with 2 extra controllers and memory cards. The orange controller's mine, no one's dared to touch it. Just a shame the whole lot only runs in black and white on my own TV, I have to fight for the downstairs one.
