Welcome one and all to episode thirty two of Connectivity. There's so much news, that we once again had two news segments, due to some late breaking news on the future of Nintendo's distribution channels. How exciting!

After that, the gang settles in for a discussion on the last Game Club game, A Boy and His Blob. Hugs for everyone. Finally, we talk about those games you play when you're feeling down, also known as "comfort games".

Please send us mail, we love it so much. You can send it by clicking here. Also, if you've got the time, we'd appreciate a nice, glowing review on iTunes.

This week's episode edited by Mike Sklens.

Talkback

Just for the record: There was once a period when there was wide release of four Mario 2D platformers in six years before.

1986 - 1991 - 1, 2, 3 and World.

As I recall, that worked out well.

Edit: Actually, if you're counting handhelds, there was a 2D Mario game released every year from 1988 (Mario 2) to 1992 (Mario Land 2).

I wish the folders let you use symbols, rather than displaying the first letter.

For example, I'd like a triforce for all my zelda games, a mushroom for my mario games, an eshop symbol for all my eshop games.

I also don't like that if my folders are together that they don't spell something.  It bothers me.

I just made 2 folders. One labeled "Like" for games I like, one labeled "Crap" for the Pokedex, NES Golf and other stuff I will never play.

2 thoughts about digital versions of retail games. I like the fact that this means I will not have to buy games instantly. I went through Hell trying to find Radiant Historia at a decent price until they finally reprinted it. Now this will not be an issue. However, I wonder what this will do to collectors. Once most games are easily available digitally, will anything really be collectible? I think we are at a cross roads in gaming history right now. It will be interesting to see where we end up.

Everyone forgets about the glut of Mario games in the late '80s and early '90s. However, they were all pretty different.

I'll reserve damning judgement on NSMB2 when I see more of it. There has to be a better hook....right?

I do want to thank Neal for defending Mario from the milking claim. As someone who still hasn't gotten enough, I'm happy to hear that more's coming.

I do have reservations though. The 3DS' artstyle makes me sad; I hope the music's much better this time around. And the Wii U version they showed off, while apparently more of a tech demo than anything, still made me kind of leery. Fingers crossed for the best, though!

Strangely enough, I couldn't care less about New Super Mario Bros Mii on Wii U, and did't really love New Super Mario Bros Wii, but I'm pretty stoked for New Super Mario Bros 2 on 3DS.  I think it's just because I'm gaming a lot more on my 3DS than on consoles lately, and I think that style of gameplay is better suited to pick-up-and-play handhelds than play-for-long-stretches consoles.

I'll probably get it Day 1.
