EA Sports Active Blog: Day 6

Today's workout with Active was more intense than the past few, resulting in 155 calories burned. The latest round of activities included skating, boxing, and basketball, plus slight variations on the usual lunges, squats, rows, and curls. On the cardio front, this was the first time I was asked to do fast kick-ups on the track; before today, only slow kick-ups were included. The full-speed version is definitely one of the most challenging things I've done in Active so far.

Lately, I've noticed that certain exercises have trouble recognizing fine movements of the controllers. Other activities take longer to acknowledge a complete movement on one side than the other (since only one leg carries the Nunchuk). These errors, although minor, can be very distracting in the middle of exercising, when you want to be in the groove and keep a steady pace.

It occurred to me that some motions would be recognized better by Wii MotionPlus. If Active is successful, and EA decides to make a sequel, I hope they will support Nintendo's new accessory for better control. Even better would be the option to use two Remotes at the same time, both equipped with MotionPlus. This setup would offer accurate, identical control for both sides of the body while also eliminating the Nunchuk cord, which occasionally gets in the way. And while I'm throwing out crazy ideas, a dual-Remote configuration could also allow for a Nunchuk leg strap on each leg, for even better control on lower-body activities.

You could do total VR first person fighting game with two motion plus controllers for each hand and the nunchuck on the legs.

Then add in the balance board for movement and jumping, plus the add the Johnny Lee headtracking VR.  Throw in Wii Speak for good measure. Next step, the STNG Holodeck.

3.5 lbs in 6 days is pretty good numbers for a video game.
