FEATURES: • Wuhu Island has so many things to do, there’s never a dull moment. A dozen activities await visitors: Archery, Frisbee®, Basketball, Cycling, Canoeing, Power Cruising, Table Tennis, Air Sports, Bowling, Swordplay, Golf and Wakeboarding. • The activities use the precision controls of the Wii MotionPlus accessory to help players come much closer to the physical reality of engaging in the actual sports. Every real-world action, whether it’s a perfect drive on the fairway or a slice off the course, is meant to be faithfully replicated. • Each activity has multiple fun challenges designed to keep visitors coming back for more. Basketball players might compete in a three-point shootout or jump into a three-on-three pickup game. Archery enthusiasts must aim for the bull’s-eye across ever-increasing distances and obstacles. • Different activities use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk™ controllers in different ways. For example, players hold the Wii Remote like a paddle in Canoeing, while in Cycling they use both arms to “pedal” with the two controllers. The Wii MotionPlus accessory picks up every nuance of motion and translates it onto the TV screen. • Depending on the activity, players can compete solo or against other players. Some activities even let players team up to work cooperatively.
*Release Date - July 26, 2009* *Price - $49.99 w/ MotionPlus bundled in*

I guess it should be just in time for Grand Slam Tennis & Tiger Woods 2010. So hopefully there won't be any shortages on the M+ for bundles of WSR & GST

Doesn't Red Steel 2 have it.As well as Virtua Tennis 2009?
Those haven't been 100% confirmed.

Wasn't Dead Space Extraction possibly going to have it? Can't think of any other titles.
Nice to finally get something concrete from Nintendo regarding this. I'm curious if any of their Fall/holiday titles will be supporting the peripheral.

Dead Space WAS said to used Motion Plus, but then IGN came out and said that it was a mistake.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, Pap. Though that doesn't rule out the possibility of the dev team deciding to add it before the game is finished.

It was never 100% promised. They said they would try and implement it and after some experimenting they decided it would not be a good fit for their game. They chose to NOT shoehorn one of the Wii's new exotic functions into a game. Imagine that, developers have gone crazy with these sane thoughts! :D

Quote from: N-Sider Impressions
As Miyamoto (translatedly) put it during our Tuesday evening roundtable, Wii Sports Resort isn't just Wii Sports 2—it's an expanded vision for the game, so fleshed out and complete that it will likely totally replace the original on your shelf.
Resort (or at least the near-final-looking build they have playable on the floor) contains twelve "sports," with each one containing a variety of events. For instance, the Swordplay category contains "Duel," which is your traditional one-on-one faceoff, "Speed Slash," (or something with that approximate title forgive me I forgot), which is a one-on-one activity that pits you against a mystery referee who tosses objects into the air, whereupon landing in front of you are marked with a slash direction that you must perform faster than your opponent. The final Swordplay event is "Showdown," which involves you taking on a gauntlet of cronies with swords. And that's just one event! If the trend is any indication we can expect at least thirty-six separate events. Several of which improve upon original Wii Sports titles: the new MotionPlus versions of Bowling and Golf offer vastly more control and precision than their prototypical counterparts.
Archery feels more than natural, with the player holding the Remote in their off-hand and pulling back the Nunchuk with their primary hand. Buttons are used to approximate gripping, pinching, and releasing the arrows, and every twitch and movement of the bow is reflected on-screen. Basketball is (seemingly) pretty difficult—I observed our site manager Cory face off against former EGM writer Dan Hsu, with both of them slugging it out in a three-point contest that ended breathlessly at the score of four buckets to three (go us). The flick of the wrist at the top of the arc along with the release of the B button to let go of the ball both seem to be sticking points, with mysterious intangible factors like the speed of the shot and the angle of the release playing major roles. Mr. Hsu let go shallow and his shots flew with less arc than Mr. Faller's, doinking off the front of the rim or convincingly bricking against the back, while particularly rain-making shots floated up and off the top of the screen before dropping back down.
The descriptions could continue forever: the swordplay feels like you always imagined it should, with enemies waving their weapons around in front of them waiting for a chance to strike. At one point I raised the Remote above my head samurai-style which caused the enemy to do the same—from there it was a quick descending cross-slash to the midsection that dropped him with satisfaction. Table Tennis follows in turn, with very accurate spin and slice, while the Air Sports airplane tour of the island feels just like it did at E3 2006. In general, it's just all more solid, and the little quirks that came about from the Remote not knowing exactly where the thing was moving, but just that it was, seem to have been excised.
To again reference Mr. Miyamoto's own comments on the game, one thing he said he disliked about the original Wii Sports was that you couldn't really "improve your skills" beyond a particular point that was imposed by the limits of the hardware—the (my terminology) "fudge factor" of the imprecision of the Remote. This game appears to rectify that in spades by requiring the MotionPlus, such to the extent that professional athletes that played the game were noted to claim "it's more realistic than what we do in real life!" Bold and a bit hyperbolistic of course, but certainly more accurate now than with Sports.
In addition to the myriad sports and events, Wii Sports Resort also includes 100 different "stamps" to collect throughout all the events which reward not necessarily "better" performance, but are meant to encourage new ways of playing, according to Miyamoto. This writer imagines events where you might be tasked with hitting Showdown enemies only in the legs, or an archery event where you need to target items in the background (this was confirmed in some minor conversations with a booth attendant who pointed out that "bonus objects" might occasionally pop up in the scenery).
Packed with a MotionPlus and retailing for $49.99, Resort makes the original Wii Sports frankly look like a tech demo, with every event save for baseball and boxing being somehow represented far more completely in the new iteration. Add in the island, which lends the game a sense of cohesion, the 100 stamps, the dozens of events, and the variety of solo and multiplayer options, along with the depth of precision and skill that is now possible to build in order to tangibly improve your abilities at the games, and you have a total package that is far more enticing this year than it was at last year's E3. The extra time has done it well, which means the wait until late July will be particularly protracted. Prepare your frisbee arms—this is one for the library.
This game is obviously one of the games at the top of my list. With enhanced and superior versions of both Bowling & Golf, while Tennis has been replaced with a tabletop version.
What I'm really hoping is that Nintendo will start doing DLC with this game utilizing its new expanded storage solution and release updated versions of both Boxing (dual wiimote w/ M+) & Baseball (M+ pitching) at a later date.
Releasing the DLC could also be a way to get people to register their games now so that they can access the extra content. And also encourage new users to get online, which will open them up to the WiiShop.
And is anybody expecting Nintendo to put this game as a pack-in to replace WiiSports? If they do the DLC thing that I just mentioned, I think it would be the perfect game to replace WiiSports with since you would still be able to play all the old games (maybe make regular tennis a bonus under the table version).
edit: also here is a gameplay video from the sword part of the game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wa20-ZN6Ac

I'm sure it will be a central Mii island for Mii focused games and will probably be referenced in other games.
e.g. Link trying to get into special shop in town but the sign on the door reads "Store Closed: Picking up supplies on Wuhu island, be back tomorow"

They were talking about that in the talkback thread.
Sword fighting, Archery and also frisbee to test controls for the boomerang.
and to settle that frisbee throw vs boomerang throw debate, you can throw a frisbee cross body or side arm, but its the same basic motion only more over the shoulder for a boomerang.

Can you imagine how Epic Zelda would be having to actually do the motions? I mean Zelda already makes you feel badass playing the game...but being badass in the game but actually doing the movements can make you feel even more badass...and will be a reason for lockon gaming to always be present in Zelda.

I am as well, but he's not the only dev to think like that..
I remember reading something, i believe it was one of those Iwata Asks interviews with Mr. Itoi (Earthbound) where one of them mentioned wanting to make a game that was less of a "road movie" like Earthbound was. What they meant was, instead of making a game (rpg in this case) where you move from town to town and leaving all those people behind, you spend the majority of your time in one place getting to know and help out those same faces, yet some would leave and new ones would come in. It turned into Animal Crossing now that i think about it.
Though Miyamotos idea of the island itself being a "character" is far more intriguing, cuz you dont know what kinda crazy stuff he has in his head!

WuHu island already retains the shape of Delfinio Island's dolphin with the exception that WuHu is mirrored and the dolphin's head was chomped off by a kraken.
Wu Sports Resort: compatible with Wu.

I'm just as hyped for this as anyone, but what I want to know is why is this game, the game that is made for M+, is coming out more than a month after M+. EA & SEGA must be really happy that they get to headline with the new Peripheral and hopefully have struck some sort of deal for a real 3rd party effort in the near future.

Perhaps its to give those games a shot.
If you saw Wiisports Resort next to Tiger Woods on the shelf, and both came with Motion+ what do you think would run thru your head? Most people would think "hm.. heres a nintendo made game, so they're sure to nail the controls and its Motion+ exclusive.. and here's a 3rd party game that might not be as good.."
Eh?

I figured that's the reason, but what is Nintendo getting in return? you know, other than a Tennis Exclusive and the Definitive TW to date?
I'm just hoping that since Nintendo decided not to announce so much stuff this year, that they really are planning this huge blockbuster 2010 in cooperation with the various 3rd parties.
But the real questionj is, did Nintendo delay WSR to allow GST & TW10 to shine with M+ support or did they release M+ early to accommodate 3rd party efforts? Because we all know that as soon as it was known that GST & TW10 were getting a M+ bundle, VT2009 was delayed to launch at the same time as those games.

I am very excited for this game. I reserved it because it would be a fun party game, but more and more I hear I want it for myself.
It is sad that Nintendo didn't include online. I wonder if LAG would be an issue, they seem to make this game really full featured when they could have gotten away with much less.

Hm.. with how interested some of our forumers are with Tiger Woods (with M+) i think its a safe bet to say that even if Nintendo didn't really care about giving 3rd parties a leg up when it comes to sale of their own M+ enabled game, they DO care about M+'s market penetration.
If TW comes bundled in with M+ now, a gamer will likely buy it (the bundle over the standalone game because its the better value) and then a month from now when they see WiiSports Resort on store shelves, also with M+, thats one gamer with 2+ for their possible 4 wiimotes.
Obviously the more M+'s out in the wild the better, and not just for Nintendo (as a dev) themselves. This add-on to the remote isn't something like the balance board where only a handful of games can make use of it, all future wii games can make use of it beacuse it attaches to the main controller which everyone has at least one of, so the more the better. 3rd parties won't have much of an excuse to not make their future titles not only M+ exclusive, but include multiplayer as well. Look at Red Steel 2 and its lack of 4 player death match that the original had.
If everyone gets M+, nintendo will also end up making the next Zelda a M+ exclusive title as well, and thats win-win for gamers!

What's the word on the multiplayer? How many events are 4-player, how many are simultaneous, and how many are pass-the-controller? Pass-the-controller would be ideal since I doubt very many people are going to get four of these accessories right off the bat.

I agree with most needing pass-the-remote multiplayer, but they need to have at least one that supports or requires 4 players simultaneously with M+. They had tennis in WiiSports. Do we know how many players are supported in the Wave Race game?

They got the demo boxes out at gamestop right now! If you look under the ESBA rating (I think I got letters right), under it says "Online play is not rated" or something along those lines.... does this mean it has wi-fi? ;p

It is ESRB. And yes that "online play is not rated" states that it does have online play. Boot up Brawl or Mario Kart Wii and it says the same thing.

online play would be awesome. it would be curious to why it would be a secret. Maybe it's just 'leader boards' not online play . That seems logical and leader-boards are something that would fit into that game nicely. Or maybe something like trading your high scores with friends visa Wiiconnect24 . I don't want to hype myself up, but still.

Leader Boards and stat tracking with friends was something I really thought would have made WS better. Especially with all the Friend Code WC24 talk back in the early days.
I'm really hoping that Nintendo doesn't overlook online play & leaderboards this time around. The infrastructure is there, so its time for Nintendo to put more support behind their own features. If the point is to rope in the casuals and eventually turn them into gamers, well getting them online & competitive is the logical next step.

Make it a FC-only leader board.
Plus, Mario Kart Wii has global leaderboards.
Thats what I've been asking for since the beginning. Have a FC leaderboard and a WW/Regional Leaderboard. Best of both worlds.
Geometry Wars: Galaxies did that.
I actually wish more WiiWare games had online leaderboards. It seems like such a simple thing to add. I hope Bit.Trip.Core has one because that's the one thing I wish BTBeat had.

On New Wii's they have a channel discussing online. Check it out at Gamestop Wii demo's.
I was over at a friends house that they had it. They never even clicked it until I pointed it out. They didn't even know you could make your own Miis. they thought you could only use the pre-selected ones in Wii Sports. The whole topic came up when I plugged mine in so we could play Guitar Hero and they were floored by all of the WiiWare and VC games on my menu. I got to prosletize new Wii owners of the glories of going online and WiiWare and all the old VC games. They had an N64 and an SNES so they were really big on the old games on VC.

LOL, I don't know because I haven't figured out how to download it. I asked someone but they just told me to Google my Yahoos and I'm not into that sort of thing...

Nintendo decided to get impressions from the Pros
Quote
Darius Knight, Table Tennis Professional:"I loved the control of the Wii MotionPlus in Wii Sports Resort - it meant I could map my movements precisely on screen. Every flick of my wrist was faithfully mirrored and I found myself having to hold the controller exactly as I would my racket to get the effect I wanted. It even reproduced a backhand with spin! I loved the challenge it presented and couldn't put it down until I'd mastered my sport in the virtual world!"
Wesley Haeke, Kendo Champion:"When I played swordplay in Wii Sports Resort, I was surprised how realistic the Wii Motion Plus sensor made the game. I had to hold the controller exactly as I would a Shinai to get the precision I wanted, as well as holding stances such as jodan no kamae exactly as I would in a tournament to beat my opponent. Winning the game requires concentration, patience and precision, just as in real life."
Melissa Reid, Professional Golfer: "I expected precision from the Wii MotionPlus, but I didn't expect this! Every rotation through the body and the way I held the Wii controller was reflected in Wii Sports Resort. The option of three, nine or 18 holes was great as it meant I could do a quick-fire round or take my time; the graphics are really impressive too. Believe me - it wasn't easy hitting birdie and I certainly spent my fair share of time in the rough!"
Danilo Gallinari, Pro Basketball Player: "The three-point basketball challenge in Wii Sports Resort was fantastic. The precision of the Wii MotionPlus meant I really had to focus to accurately shoot the hoops and with the clock ticking I definitely started to feel the pressure. The Wii MotionPlus demands precision and won't let you off with a limp-wristed slam dunk; you really need to give it your all!"
Gema Buitron, Archery Champion: "Seeing my sport reflected exactly on screen was amazing! I loved that the levels got progressively harder and that I needed to factor distance and wind speed into my shot. The precision was remarkable and I found I really had to concentrate to ensure I was scoring highly. I was particularly impressed with how the controller emulated an archery bow, with the Wii Remote acting as the bow and pulling the Nunchuck back like the string, to determine the strength of the shot."
But who I would really like to hear from is the professional SkyDiver and how he/she had to accurately twist their body to rotate and how slight movements of the leges and arms changed how they would glide through the air. How did M+ perfectly imitate skydiving Nintendo?
& GT also has a bunch of videos up. some new(Ping Pong & Canoeing) some old. http://www.gametrailers.com/game/wii-sports-resort/9168

I saw my first M+ ad last night. It was for Tiger Woods. It showed Tiger connecting an M+ to a Wiimote and hitting a golf ball. Pretty nice.
It got me wondering if Nintendo will be using the "Wii Would Like To Play" ads for Resort and M+ or if they are going to change things up since M+ is so different and revolutionary. something to get people's attention that this is something new that changes the game on Wii.

I'd like to know how pulling the Nunchuk back actually affects anything in the Archery game. I haven't heard any Nunchuk+ yet.

Maybe the M+ can detect how far away the Nunchuck is from the Wiimote some how? Could there be hidden tech in the Nunchuck that sends out a signal that the Wiimote can read? Maybe it doesn't and its one of those "go-through-the-motions-because-it'll-feel-more-real/Wii Music" gimicks.

That's what's worrying me about the Nunchuk when it comes to Archery. What if the Nunchuk is in front of the remote when the player starts to aim? Or if the starting position is already stretched far behind the Remote? I wonder how the game will handle this...

My Sams Club has the little display cards you take up to the registers to get a game for this out on the shelve. I didn't try to get it though because I have no $$$...... I doubt they have it anyways. It wasn't in the locked up storage from what I could see. It is a month until it comes out.

Alrighty, just got back from playing Resort for about an hour. We played most modes in two player. Overall the package is amazing! Great deal with all the games some are better than others. All the games have multiple modes to them though so its more like 30+ games.
Sword Fighting- AWESOME! It just feels so satisfying! I can't wait for Zelda now! Archery- AWESOME! It shows that the M+ can track in 3D space. Works amaizng too! Can't wait to do it in Zelda! Rowing- Ehh, it works really well just not that fun. Bowling- You don't let go of the B button anymore. It just lets go automatically with the motion. Felt good, going to take time getting used to the new way though. Golf- Really good, feels just as good at Tiger Woods 10 does. Wakeboarding- It was ok, doesn't have that "I couldn't do this without motion+ feeling. Basketball-I really didn't enjoy this too much. It was just not all that fun for me. Didn't feel that satisfying. Jet Ski-It had so much potential, but just wasn't all that amazing to me. Cycling-Not all that amazing but I think the best bike riding has ever been pulled off in a game. Didn't have the I have to have M+ to do this feeling though. Frisbee-Felt really good, shows to M+ off great! Takes a bit of time to get used to. Feels alot different than TW10's Disk Golf Air Sports-Sky Diving really shows off the M+ well. The plane was fun works really well with M+ too. Kinda fun to explore the island. Table Tennis-This was awesome! It just felt right!
It was all in Japanese of course, text didn't matter all that much.

Great thank you. It's disappointing Nintendo lied about the jet skiing>waverace, but it all sounds good. Have you checked out the side games/practice? (Like WS1 had the golf target game and the growing bowling pin rows game)

My roommate got addicted to the growing bowling pin game. He played it way too late into the night sometimes. WiiSports, Boom Blox and occasional Smash Brothers games were all he'd play with me, and he only played Brawl because I wanted to play it. So the mini games are a must for the more casual gamers. That's how you rope them in.

There are at least two modes on every sport. Some have 3+ though. You all should buy this day one! It is really great. It appeals to the casuals but then the level of control appeals to us. Great job Nintendo! You have hit a perfect median!

I'm still thinking they are gonna eventually pack it in. Wii Sport + Resorts pack in disc.
Like Mario & Duck Hunt for NES.
I suppose that's possible, but if not I think it's got a real chance. All it needs is for half as many people as have bought the Wii so far to buy it. For any other game that would be ludicrously impossible, but if any game could do it this one can.

They could easily combine both games onto one disc, throw in a WM+, and bundle it with the Wii, without dropping the price, and sales would go up.

Bowling just got awesome:
Quote
Shimamura: In Wii Sports, there was a bowling game where you could knock down 100 pins. Iwata: It was included in the training mode, and I remember that you were only able to bowl the ball once in the final stage. Shimamura: That’s right. In the new game, it's now not only possible to bowl the ball a second time, but there is a completely separate mode where you can bowl a full ten frame match. In the regular game, the maximum score is 300 points, but in this one… Yamashita: It’s 3000 points! (laughs) That’s the highest possible score in the 100-pin match. Shimamura: This game is really going to get players excited. Yamashita: The sense of unity the player has with the on-screen action has also been greatly increased. Iwata: The sense of unity? Shimamura: In the previous title, if you press the B Button when you are holding the ball, the Mii will walk automatically with the player aiming to match the Mii's movement to bowl the ball. But this time round, even if the player presses the B Button, the Mii won’t move until the player does. Iwata: That’s because it can detect the movements of the player holding the ball. Shimamura: That's right. So when you hold the ball up, the Mii will also hold the ball up and will release it when you release it.

I'll summarize:
Quote
Dohta:I remember you asking us at the time: “Look, are you really sure you can make it?" (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:And you said: “We’ll pull out all the stops!” (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Shimamura:You could say that! (laughs)
Quote
Sato:Yes, well… I felt that my expectations may have been a little bit excessive… (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Shimamura:And that’s when we all found ourselves saying: "You can make it stop! You can make it stop!" (laughs)
Quote
Yamashita:We were saying: "Look, you can make it stop at the last second!” (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:That’s exactly what we thought: “What are we going to do with this?” (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Licensing an island! (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:Well, I was really taken aback. In fact, I was at a loss for words! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Well, that's not surprising considering you’d just heard someone suggest turning an island into a character and then licensing it out! (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:Absolutely! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Yamashita:You could of course also stop the sword just before making the strike! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:They made each of the mini-games end within five seconds! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Yamashita:At first, I really thought it would be impossible, but I knew that if anyone could do something about it, it would be Ota-san. And indeed it turned out that he managed to do something! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Miyamoto:I’m afraid we can’t reveal just how the magic works! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:So without knowing how you'd actually go about it, you just went ahead and said "Let’s have 1000 opponents!" (laughs)
Quote
Yamashita:Right. We thought that the more opponents we had, the better! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Yamashita:Yes, that’s true. (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:You had already used them all! (laughs)
Quote
Yamashita:Right, we had used them all! (laughs)
Quote
Sato:We would say things like: “This really has that ‘resort feel’!” (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:That phrase “resort feel” really reminds me of the way the team who developed Zelda referred to that “Zelda-esque” quality. (laughs)

Quote
Iwata:I’m not sure it’s such a good idea to confuse onsen and tropical resorts! (laughs)

All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:Yes, I did it! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Miyamoto:Have I really? (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:(laughs) I can remember that wakeboarding has been a goal of yours for the last ten years and doing an aerial flyover has been a goal for twenty years.
Quote
Yamashita:It’s 3000 points! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Shimamura:Right after getting back to Japan, he suddenly said: “You know we’re including golf now.” Apparently he’d stated in an interview that this time round golf shots would be determined by the backswing, even though at that time a golf game didn't exist in any shape or form! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:It’s a trick he often uses! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Shimamura:That’s because of the “18 Hole Incident”. (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:“The 18 Hole Incident”? Tell us about that! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:That’s another well-worn technique! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Miyamoto:We won ourselves some extra time while things were left to stew in the pressure cooker! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Read the previous Iwata Asks interview and all will become clear! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Fortunately? It certainly wasn’t a fortunate development from a business perspective! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:I bet you sounded really happy when you shouted it! (laughs)
Quote
Miyamoto:I really did shout! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:You think you’re approaching the finish line when someone shouts "You guys got a lucky break!" (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Taking the feelings of the team working on the game who believe that the finish line is just up ahead into consideration, I don’t know if that can be perceived as being entirely a positive thing! (laughs)
Quote
Yamashita:Well, it’s not something that a member of the team would have said. Of course it was... (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Now I get it… (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:(laughs)
Quote
Iwata:That’s one way of saving time! (laughs)
Quote
Yamashita:That’s good to hear! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:Really? There was more? (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:And that someone was Miyamoto-san once again! (laughs)
Quote
Miyamoto:If you use this chance to get familiar with the island in advance, you’ll enjoy the next game even more! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:(laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Shimamura:He'll read it and we'll be found out! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:I see – “advice”. (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:He doesn’t pull any punches, does he? (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:(laughs)
Quote
Iwata:The dreaded progress report! (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:“Dreaded” is exactly the right word! (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:He makes you stand? (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Yamashita:Yes, he certainly does. (laughs)
Quote
Iwata:After you “were put through this”… (laughs)
Quote
Shimamura:If you looked at the screen, you could see that he wasn’t able to hold it steady at all. I’d never seen anyone shaking so bad before when playing the game so I said: “You’re shaking!” He replied: ”It’s nerves!” (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Iwata:(laughs) So did he get through that nerve-wracking presentation without Miyamoto-san giving him the thumbs down?
Quote
All:(laughter)

I'm not even sure how to rate a game like Wii Sports Resort just like I wasn't sure with Wii Sports.
That's different . That was a free game.
This I say grade all the sports individually and the total score is a combination of how all of them are. Keep in mind how the controls work, and if its something you will come back to or only play a little.

I'm going to try all the games. It seems that everyone hates cycling , Kayaking is only fun with 4 players and basketball isn't as tight as it should be.
I am mainly going to play Sword play, Airplane, Table tennis and motorboat one. I bought Wave Race Blue Storm as my launch game for GAMECUBE back in the day. I screamed at it but yet I still enjoyed it. I doubt this game has the same amazing and awful ' random water ' that blue storm had.

That Gametrailers review was good, but some of their comments were weird. They kept saying that the sword events were wasted potential because players could end up spamming attacks. Um, if this is something that is controlled by the player why condemn them game for it? The player has all control over their sword attacks and how do they use them. Once again, if the player is in full control why blame the game for a decision the game makes?
As for depth, not to belittle this game, but does anyone expect any depth from Wii Sports? The depth comes from the controls and what the game does with them. The events are basic, stripped down versions of real world events so why expect any big depth?

It's a sequel to a big-name game and it is a stand-alone title this time, that might be why some people expected a bit more from it (I'm not one of these JSYK).

But we got a lot more of it. Instead of 4 sports we get 12 instead of 1 way to play we get 2-3 ways to play each sport.
For those expecting each minigame in WSR to become full featured games within a bundle don't exactly get why WiiSports is what it is. They did take the initiative with Golf and fleshed it out to a full 18 hole course, but this collection is more an introduction to M+ and how it can improve on the concepts shown to to you in WiiSports. It up to 3rd parties in most cases to flesh those concepts out into full featured games (apparently with online and all the bells & whistles).
But I do have a question for those that played the game. Does it still have the Training modes, like the various target practices?

nobody talked about options this games has. I really hate games that don't give you options to play as you wish. That was one of my problems to Wii sports originally. Every game should be like Brawl in the near infinite amount of options to play the game.

what do you mean options? see it is proper that if you state a problem that you also state your solution as well. Simply saying like brawl is not enough. examples, how you would make options in the game WSR and so on.

what do you mean options? see it is proper that if you state a problem that you also state your solution as well. Simply saying like brawl is not enough. examples, how you would make options in the game WSR and so on.
He wants more options like there are in Brawl. What kind of options are in Brawl?
Win condition options, what items you use options, music options, game parameter options...basically more choices in how you play.

yup.
example in wii sports baseball I would want option to move fielders , in bowling limit the game to 4 rounds, etc.

We've been over this. Any baseball game over 3 innings would confuse minivan soccer moms and destroy gaming forever. The ability to turn off mercy rule would cripple future Cooking Mamas' massive sales and don't even think about hoping to control your miis; the extra ink that would be required for more detailed instruction manuals and in-game explanation splash screens would sink Iwata's billion-dollar-money-swimming-pool faster than The Conduit's sales chart placement.

It all looks like fun, but seeing how there is 4 person competitive kayaking, it makes me think that the only reason they didn't have a 4 M+ 2 player competitive boxing is becuase they are still pushing PunchOut!! and don't want o interfere with the sales of that game.
What they should have done is add in a secret and unlockable M+ mode for PO if that is the reason.

Maybe PO will be the first Wii born NPC game released.
Either way, I still wish regular tennis and boxing were included. Maybe even a Resort Gym with a boxing exercise like in WiiFit only using M+ (I'm not sure if WiiFit+ is using M+ at all).

They're playing "Wii Resort" (as they called it) on Good Morning America this morning.
And whoever was demonstrating it (the "proffesional") also used the term "staycation" which i know someone else mentioned the same thing in this very thread..

Me believes staycation was coined during economic down times, which is a vacation that the ones stay at home.
If this was referring to my previous post, i didn't mean to say one of our forum members coined the term "staycation," I've actually heard it long before it was uttered here. The reason i brought it its relevance up, was that seeing it advertised as such is a good way to sell this game to soccer-mom types who, in this economic climate, would feel the safer purchase is a $50 game the whole family can enjoy at home over a trip to an actual resort getaway where they may or may not do all the activities included within the game.
Now I'm not sure if the person demonstrating the game to the GMA cast was a Nintendo rep or not, but either way.. throwing that word in there is good advertising. Whoever used the term in this thread was exactly right when they said it.

Aussie sports resort owner here. I picked it up on 2 days ago. It is pretty awesome. Having a ball with it. Controls are very nice. I was pleasantly surprised with the swordplay. All the games work quite well. Ping Pong is quite appealing too. Time is short so I can't go into detail. All in all you will enjoy it. I haven't played multi player yet.

Not get me wrong it's not a bad game, it's just the original is leagues ahead. The controls work well and most of the games are fun (canoeing is ****), but the "multiplayer" isn't as god as Wii Sports. It's more of a take-in-turn type of multiplayer than a real 4-in-1 experience (e.g. there's absolutely nothing that comes close to being as good as Wii Tennis.)
It's fun and I'll definitely bust it out when friends come over, it's just not as good as it could have been and it's not as impressive as Wii Sports.

Ok I guess I can see them not being quite as engaging as tennis but what about the side games?
Quote
Yama****a:We were saying: "Look, you can make it stop at the last second!” (laughs)
(laughs)

All:(laughter)

Yama****a:At first, I really thought it would be impossible, but I knew that if anyone could do something about it, it would be Ota-san. And indeed it turned out that he managed to do something! (laughs)

Miyamoto:I’m afraid we can’t reveal just how the magic works! (laughs)

Iwata:So without knowing how you'd actually go about it, you just went ahead and said "Let’s have 1000 opponents!" (laughs)

Yama****a:Yes, that’s true. (laughs)

Sato:We would say things like: “This really has that ‘resort feel’!” (laughs)

Iwata:That phrase “resort feel” really reminds me of the way the team who developed Zelda referred to that “Zelda-esque” quality. (laughs)

Iwata:Yes, I did it! (laughs)

(laughs)

Iwata:That’s another well-worn technique! (laughs)
Quote
All:(laughter)
Quote
Miyamoto:We won ourselves some extra time while things were left to stew in the pressure cooker! (laughs)

Iwata:Read the previous Iwata Asks interview and all will become clear! (laughs)

Review Post.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/100/1004395p1.html They gave it a 7.7
Quote
7.0 Presentation Good enough doesn't feel good enough in this sequel. You've got a nice features list in all 12 challenges, but once again Nintendo doesn't go above and beyond. 8.5 Graphics Believe it or not, the game is one of the better looking Wii titles. Simple art style? Sure. But the visuals are pulling next-gen effects like water physics and depth of focus, all at 60 FPS. 8.0 Sound Clean, happy, up-beat soundtrack, complete with the same announcer from the first game. 8.0 Gameplay Some games work better than others, but the real champs here are Swordplay, Table Tennis, Archery, and Frisbee. 7.5 Lasting Appeal It's an evergreen title that will keep you coming back, but Nintendo could have done so much more (online?) to keep players' interests. 7.7 Good OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average)
1ups review http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3175187&p=44&sec=REVIEWS They gave it a A-
GameTrailers review http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-wii-sports/52930 They gave it a 8.6 Design got a 8.5 Gameplay got a 8.8 Presentation got a 7.2

I am interested to see if my fencing and martial arts training will impact my performance in the sword game. I tend to make people who swing too wildly walk away with bruises. But since there is so little weight in the Wiimote they may be able to move faster than normal.

Don't forget to use B trigger to block. When they get off balance, a series of side swipes usually works but it is pretty fast paced.
So far, I really like Table Tennis, Air Sports, Swordplay and, surprisingly, Wakeboarding. Oh, Archery is good too.
Ditto. Dog catch is probably the most addicting. Canoeing and cycling weren't too bad and they give your arms a workout but you have to learn to fudge the controls. Basketball hoops is a throwaway, and golf and bowling have to be relearned so they're not good for casually jumping right in.
Kendo and table tennis and a few others seem to be really short (shorter than anything in WS1) but the side games make up the difference.
I really like that some games have a time of day option. Nice touch.

Ok so my brother and I just spent a few hours playing this game. It was a blast.
We went in order of the mini games.
Sword Fighting he would spam allot, but I could block some of that and he would stop and it would get interesting.
dog frisbee it was good, we just haven't gotten the rhythm yet on how to toss.
My brother and I had trouble with free throws in basketball. I don't get the hate for 3x3 . Sure it's not traditional but we still had a blast with it.
we played canoeing for a while. It works but not perfectly. We collected all the ducks in like 30 minutes. It only unlocks a stamp not a mode or anything
archery was fairly fun once we got the hang of it.
I thought wake boarding was more interesting than I expected, but still a little simple. If I could control my own tricks that would have been awesome.
I enjoyed bowling more in this game than before. Spin is now present. I could never spin the ball liked I wanted in the original and now it works. The 100 pin mode is so much fun. That physics is fun to watch in replays.
Golf is now playable (where it wasn't before IMO) . I still get to much curving left or right but that's just my lack of skill.
airplane is relaxing and fun to just fly around the island and find places. dogfight is to slow and the island is a little to big for only 2 players, fun still though.
table tennis is a head trip because I expect Wii Sports Tennis controls to work, but it's much better. I enjoy it.
cycling is ass.. PURE Waggle . I don't like turning either.
power cruising is pretty fun, I don't know if I can control as I land as much as I thought.

I kept getting pissed at Dog Frisbee, but then I realized when you have your arm tucked in, your throws aren't as accurate as you think they'd be, so I started using broader tosses, extending my arm fully, and it worked much better.

3point challenge got the most replays at 4 times (Hi Score of 20 so far). Played most games 2-4 players and had fun with what I did play so far.
I wanna play some more before I give real impressions, but I see alot of playtime coming from this game. Pro status must be achieved asap on as many sports as i can.

I can hate my brother and how anti-Nintendo he can be. So I got this today, I had him over to play it and he did not like it. He said "what ever its not that good at all". I have 37 Wii games and he comes over and plays them sometimes and today he told me. "Wii is stupid it only has 3-4 good games". ARG! If a game wasn't good I wouldn't own it, I do have a few that not many people would like but overall. But he won't accept anything other than a FPS on 360 as being a good game. I try to tell him just because its not a FPS and ratted M doesn't mean its not a good game. Just aggravating! And I have my love of Nintendo from my brothers who had a NES and SNES and who taught me how to game.
Any ways, I love the game, its awesome just like when I played it on my neighbors import Wii.

I am wondering how far out from a release of a game do you get your review copies.1 week? 2 weeks?
I have some things I need to take care of today so I might have it later tonight or tomorrow.

The Online connectivity is pathetic.
Basically the only online feature is the fact you can allow the game to use miis found on the ' check mii out channel '. So if you don't have that many mii's you can use some of those. I allowed it, but I already have 100 so whatever.
Such a waste Nintendo. It's like they are telling you " wii can go online but we don't feel like working harder so here is something "

Nintendo doesn't include online as a design choice in many of their games. They want things focused on the family/friends getting together to play the game not some lone guy in his room . This is their way of forcing people to do it and play it the way it is meant to be played. They also probably don't see online as much of a draw for this game and I can't disagree.

They really should take the initiative to support their own online system with ant game they can fit it into. even if they make it the final unlockable, they should still include it if possible. They have to lead by example since all most 3rd parties do is copy them.

Mario Kart Wii has a great online because it needs it.
Wii Sports Resort... asides from the WAVE RACE Mii EDITION, and some others, I don't think online was needed.
The red font compliments the FAN RAGE quite well.

What I think is the major problem with Brawl's online is that Brawl looks too good, and the game play requires very fine accuracy. There is a compromise between accuracy and fast-processing time.
Mario Kart Wii has its drawbacks: first, the graphics mirror that of the GameCube, so the art design, whether it be in local play or online play, is uniform, unlike The Conduit, which apparently had its graphics toned down and made ugly compared to the rest of the game for online. Second, when playing online there is a lag between player and item collision, but given Mario Kart's luck-based game play, it's doable and appropriate. Because more processing power was given to handling 12 players from anywhere in the world rather than excellent graphics and direct hits, it is a very smooth online, with no bad lag or slowdown.
Brawl on the other hand, was made to take full advantage of the Wii's hardware for local multiplayer, more or less. Thus backgrounds are busy and bursting with activity. Even the stages with no obstacles have a lot going on. And Brawl requires accuracy. Without it, punches would fly straight through characters. Thus, Brawl has a laggy online since only is it processing actions from up to 4 consoles around the world, the events that follow, and the surplus of detailed, busy graphics. If the developer was be able to give Brawl an online that does not compromise graphics and accuracy for fast processing time but still have smooth online no matter what, it would be a miracle.

The Conduit has the same quality online as many PC games in 1998. Brawl can do good online, many fighters have good online now a days too. I know it can be done, Nintendo is just retarded about online.

if you play the free fall sky diving mode again you can take pictures.
makes sense you could send those pictures to friends.
high scores are all over the game. you would think leader boards would fit . Or even being able to trade those scores to your wii friends to compete that way.
I understand that WM+ plus online play might be tricky to work out , so online vs might be difficult.
however having " check mii out" channel support and not having other basic things just makes no sense. I guess either have nothing or all.

Nintendo didn't include Lotion Puss for NOTHING, you know.
Gotta cut out features to save money since it's a game for casuals who don't know how to connect their Wii to the interweb anyway. Don't waste dev money on your unprofitable fans.
The freaking game starts with a half hour video on attaching your dongle to make babies. Imagine the video they'd force users to see to get ONLINE!

Casuals aren't aware of manuals. Nintendo learned this in the N64 days, so now they include tutorials in almost ever character-driven game they make.
Why Mario Kart Wii never included a forced "Toad's Tutorial Track!!" that shows you how to insert your Remote into your Wheel confuses me, cuz it's so unlike Nintendo.

Here's our comic for Wii Sports Resort. Please feel free to reference it every time some forum troll brings up this old barb.
I think it will only be available from the Nintendo Fun Club. A typical Wii Dust packet should run about 400 coins and last about 6-8 weeks depending on playtime.

I shoot like I would a basketball only with a little less wrist action since that makes the ball fly flat.
Find the smooth motion that get you the arc, then all you have to focus on is aiming straight and shooting far enough. I haven't perfected it yet, but I've been able to hit about 7-8 in a row at times.

I played this for a while with my brother and I couldn't get it right. Now I played alone and read the instructions carefully and it works great. You need to do a forward arch motion . When I figured it I was happy and felt that motion plus really is something worth while.
Airplane mode is great. I have less than 10 of the i locations left. They actually make it more interesting as you play and collect more i things.

I picked mine up at Target on Sunday & I got the last copy. There was also a bunch of moms with their kids running around looking for extra M+'s but Target was all sold out. Two moms gave me the warning that you gonna need an extra "bottom thing" if you want to play with two people.

Follow this basic motion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdTQi4L6khw#t=3m20s) and then pretend you are casting a fishing line at top of your motion. You should get a good arc out of the ball. Then it just comes down to aiming it perfectly straight and tossing it out far enough to reach the rim.

Played it and I'm not impressed.
These are definitely tech demos, and the only one that holds my interest was the swordfighting, except that it's not that good either: you're still locked to a circle so it's not like you can move the remote any way you want and hit that way.
And what is with the sheer amount of recalibrating the game requires? Before every swordfight, you need to aim the cursor at the screen and you need to occasionally set the controller down on its face so it can recalibrate. I expected a BIT of recalibration, but this is too much. How can you design a game around WMP without the constant recalibrating destroying any sense of immersion the game might've otherwise had? "Congratulations, noble hero, you've defeated the evil troll king! Now your sword could probably use a rest so put it face down on the table in front of you."
I'll be curious to see how Red Steel 2 turns out. I need to see how this tech works in an actual game before I decide if I like WMP or not.

I figured out when your playing sword play dual if you run out of time and the game is a tie. The circle you play the final round in goes to tiny to make it faster.
It's pretty cool little animation as it cuts and lowers the playing field to the little blue circle. ;D
You can counter spamming in Dual with some well placed blocks. So it's not a guarantee win. My friend swings wildly and he didn't win every match. I still think Nintendo should have put a ' arm meter' or something where if you swing a ton your arm gets tired. Something like that would have gone a long way.

They just have to be creative. Say it is a Zelda M+ game and after every boss you 'lay down your sword' to take a break. They have you lay down Link's sword and then you watch him go swimming or catch faeries or something. Or if the sword is also a master key of sorts so that you have to place it a certain way to access specific areas.
You just have to be creative in how you present and execute the calibration.
Title: Re: WiiSports Resort - Welcome to Wuhu Island *July 09*

I've not noticed any drift in the 1:1 of the sword play - just out of curiosity, have those who are experiencing drift gone into the options and turned off the Wii pointer calibration? It's my understanding that when you point at the screen and hit A at the start of each round it re-calibrates then.
For M+ Zelda it wouldn't have to have you lay the remote down to zero out - the M+ golf just re-calibrates when you point the remote down and hit B. Just have the game prompt Link to 'salute' his opponents or draw his sword by pointing the remote at the ceiling and then the screen.. that should provide enough data to fix the remote's position for the duration of a sword fight.

I'm really having a lot of fun with this game! I don't think the calibration issues are as bad as some of you seem to think. It doesn't really take me out of the game or anything.
I've been busting my balls trying to get all the hidden targets in archery; since I found out about those my archery score has gone way down due to me missing all the time, lol.
Flying the airplane is also a lot cooler than I though it'd be. All in all I'd say this is a great package, there are just tons of little extras in the game. This already has replaced Wii Sports as my go-to casual game of choice when I'm with others.

Over the weekend I was over at a friends and this game was a huge hit. We played pretty much everything, but spent the most time with Basketball. That 3-on-3 mode is easily going to be the one we play the most in multiplayer; James was right on the podcast that most of it doesn't require Motion+ at all but it was just so fun (especially that I finally got the shooting down, I got 20 twice in 3 point mode). I thought Swordplay was somewhat underwhelming in duel mode against the computer but once I tried playing against a human that understood the game we had some pretty epic duels. Our other favorites were Archery and Table Tennis, which seem like the ones I'll be more likely to play single player

My guess is that Smash prefers LKS because he doesn't have to worry about you showing him up with your athletic videogaming prowess

I know that Smash knows, but I was going to keep it quiet til Pap figured out who I was. You guys were so curious though, I couldn't help giving in.

Speaking of Athletic Videogaming Prowess...
Who here has high scores they want to brag about? What is everyones most played games (single & multi)? & Besides the obvious need to calibrate issue, what would you change about this game if you could?
edit: I got 25 in 3point shoot out so far. Soo close to having 26-27, but my guy keeps throwing a ball away (like a pass) whenever I'm on a good starting streak.

I went undefeated in Table Tennis against my friend this past Saturday.
Archery and "Beating people on the head with your brightly colored plastic penis" were also fan favs.

Just finished reading the Iwata Asks interview for Resort. Awesome stuff.
And true story, brought Resort to a friend's place over the weekend, had a blast. But at the opening sky diving sequence, the featured Mii was none other than... Ron Jeremy.
Ron Jeremy would take to the skies and in the first group, join hands with MY Mii and Michael Jackson. Indeed.
Iwata: (laughs)
The first time i played the game for me the mii that was sky diving was a female mii with a penis in her mouth. I laughed.

They could lock out the hardcore elements (changing the number of innings, online mode) with like a long button combo secret code, that way casuals will never know it exists and will not get confused by options, and the hardcore will have a deeper experience.
For the next Wii Sports, Camp Cancun, please make a 'move back to the center' button for table tennis; I'm sick and tired of my mii wandering to one side of the table

Am I the only one who's addicted to Frisbee Golf? Sure, every now and then I make a completely horrible throw and my aggressive style lands me out of bounds way too often, but it's always a super relaxing experience. Mind you, my right arm has been a little sore after playing multiple 18 hole rounds.

Totally..I want to get the 18-hole-with-no-hazard frisbee golf stamp but it's going to be tough. I thought I would never get into this and regular golf, they've got such a steep learning curve; but I trudged through it and now I love doing a golf swing.
Then I found out about the hardcore golf mode (hold down one of the number buttons to hide the power meter, club name, and aiming map) and now replay is extended yet again.
This game sucks you in on the "simpler" games, entices you with stamp challenges, seduces you with unlockables and secret code alterations, waves around the more challenging games as a later treat and pretty soon you have an 8.0 experience.

Played a few games today. Wii motion plus is fantastic and so far the only clunker I've run into was the water skiing one, then again I've only played 4 or 5 of the games. What impresses me the most is Wuhu Island, this game makes me want a Mario game or something based on the island so I can explore it. It is so expertly designed I do hope Miyamoto meant what he said when it comes to reusing it again in other games.

I'm disappointed that the champion "AI" is simply programmed to mechanically "calculate the best possible move and don't falter," with the only flaw to exploit would be what little reaction time was allowed in design.
This is Nintendo's rubber-band competition bullshit all over again. Time for you to collect dust.

I hear ya. She can run, we can't. She has no trouble moving, and the player's Mii doesn't want to go anywhere. And she hits towards your mii in such a way it sends then into confusion between forehand/backhand, so we're mostly fighting against the Mii's inadequate functionality.

Ugh, curse this game.
I beat her 6-1. Your turn, Deguello.
All those chumps <1490, I pretty much used the same strategy to exploit their running inability (like the player has to put up with), and get clean 6-0's.
For this cheating AI trash, I ended up finding a different exploit. Used immediate sharp angle top-spin returns that puts the pressure on her, reduces her available reaction time, prevents a long range match, preventing her from taking advantage of her unfair moving ability and surprise shotgun returns, as I make her chase the ball past a corner.
Your return has to have a good enough angle and speed that she won't have time to move to whatever her bullshit calculated ideal spot would be to make a controlled return, forcing her to lob, and it's up to you win the subsequent smash/lob rally. You're hitting back so soon during the rally, you're Mii is automatically staying close to the table so there's less worry about moving slowly and getting stuck at corners. Having to go to these lengths is ridiculous.
And the last key part for all this: don't make a mistake.

Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on August 14, 2009, 01:26:22 PM
It's gotta be a clear forehand or backhand, or a surprise STAB that just fucks up your game. Because the game is so messed up to the point you're not allowed to manually move your character around, you have to predict the ball's trajectory immediately as it's returned to you so you can setup the forehand/backhand early enough to execute it properly.
If you always stand with the Remote aimed straight at the screen (neutral paddle), your opponents WILL take advantage of that, cuz they know Miis are casual-retarded. They will curve the ball just to make your Mii mess you up.

So I played this with some friends and had a lot of fun with it. Probably more fun that with the original WS game. I played the sword fighting, frisbee golf and dog fighting.
Dog fighting instantly made me want bot a Pilotwings game and a Star Fox game with the same controls. Especially Star Fox.
The sword game was interesting because the friend I played with and I took a fencing class together in Real Life. He tried to spam-waggle me at first and I soon figured out how to counter the shameless waggling. Very fun.
Frisbee golf was fun, but I already got to try the Tigerwoods version and prefer that one, but it was still fun.

So far, with everyone I've played in a duel, I've been the best. The key is simple: Be quick and be accurate. Don't waste a swing if you're not aiming to hit the player, and not avoid the sword. Don't block a swing without deliberately aligning your sword correctly.
Also, fluid, controlled strokes are much quicker and much easier to manipulate than quick, unrestrained jerks.

I LOVE THIS GAME! Ever since I got my new Wii about a year ago I never played the first Wii Sports once.
But man this game just blows the last one away completely! The moment my jumped out of the plane I got that-this is what nintendo is all about- feeling. So far I have enjoyed everything but canoeing. It just made me tired, and im a healthy strapping young lad. I refuse to play cycling though, I know that one will stink.
How can you guys hate the Jet Ski? It felt just as aweful as wave race most of the time. I thought it was great! Archery man, now it really feels like i'm developing some kind of skill! And wake woarding was super fun as well.
Those air plane controles were almost exactly how I imagined Star Fox to be. A Mii motion pluss Star Fox could feel just as accurate as buttons and stick, but still be just as fun if not more so with this new control scheme. Except I don't think it would be necessary to hold it like a paper airplane.
This game is great, and gives me much hope for future nintendo games. Zelda needs to have 1:1 sword fighting, it just does.

I got a used copy a few weeks ago (my sister's boyfriend gave me his copy), I like it. I think archery is boring, I hate that dogfights are 2-player only (you should be able to play against the CPU), frisbee golf doesn't seem to work that good.
My favorite activity is by far the Island Flyover. It is so addicting trying to find all of the "i" points and hitting all of the white balloons. I wish they made it easier to tell which i points you have already done (like how white balloons become colored balloons the next time you do it again). In the bowling game though, I can't seem to get the ball to go all the way down for the auto strike (I can get it to go down most of the way).

How Intend to Buy Works
Help us gauge interest in upcoming Nintendo-published games! Four weeks before a game launches, the option to register your intent to buy it will appear here. Let us know you intend to buy the game and take a short survey. When the game launches, buy it, register it, and complete the registration survey and you'll earn 10 extra Coins! Remember - you must indicate your intent to buy within the Intend to Buy date range listed for each game to be eligible for the extra Coins.

You said it yourself--"you must indicate your intent to buy within the Intend to Buy date range listed for each game to be eligible for the extra Coins". The Intend to Buy date range is 4 weeks after release.
Trust me. I registered Rhythm Heaven for Intend to Buy before it came out. I registered the game last week. I got 30 coins.

"you must indicate your intent to buy within the Intend to Buy date range listed for each game to be eligible for the extra Coins". The Intend to Buy date range is 4 weeks after release.
It doesn't say register the game, it says indicate your intent to buy. Are you sure you intended to buy it before it released?
Someone on another forum is where I first heard about this so I don't know what to believe. They got 80 coins like this:
50 for registration 10 for intend to buy 10 for registering within 4 weeks 10 for post play
I guess I'll just have to test it out for myself to see.
EDIT: Here, this is from the FAQ:
Quote
How many Coins will I earn for taking the different surveys?
Registration Survey* Wii Games = 50 Coins DS Games = 30 Coins DSiWare = Not Eligible Wii Shop Channel game and Wii Channels = Not Eligible Nintendo DSi System = 160 Coins (Registration, Survey, and Club Nintendo Link Required) Wii and Nintendo DS Lite Systems = Not Eligible
* Earn 10 bonus Coins by registering the game and taking the survey within 4 weeks of the game's release.
Post Play Survey Wii Games = 10 Coins DS Games = 10 Coins DSiWare = 10 Coins Wii Shop Channel game and Wii Channels = 10 Coins Nintendo DSi System = Not Eligible Wii and Nintendo DS Lite Systems = Not Eligible
Intend to Buy Survey (Click here for more information on Intend to Buy.) Wii Games = 10 Coins DS Games = 10 Coins DSiWare = Not Eligible Wii Shop Channel game and Wii Channels = Not Eligible Nintendo DSi System = Not Eligible Wii and Nintendo DS Lite Systems = Not Eligible
Note two things: It mentions getting ten coins for registering within four weeks after launch under the regular registration. The Intend to Buy section does not mention any time frame.

I've never gotten any 10 coins for registering and surveying within 4 weeks. My max earnings are 70 coins. This whole Club Broketendo thing is borked. All the Bonus stars say +0 even though I earned the +10 for the Intent to Buy on the upper right icons.

It's possible that the person who told me about it did the math wrong, or that there is a time limit even though the website doesn't say that there is. I'll find out once New Super Mario Brothers is released since I did the Intend to Buy with that.

Birdo Windu, I just got this email a moment ago:
``Dear Julius,
Thank you for registering your copy of Metroid™ Prime: Trilogy at Club Nintendo. Be sure to return to provide feedback on your experience playing Metroid Prime: Trilogy, and earn exclusive rewards only available at Club Nintendo.
DID YOU KNOW? Early Registration Bonus You can earn extra Coins for registering a product within 4 weeks of the product launch date.``
AHAHAHAH this is the FIRST TIME I've seen any notice about the 4 week thing-o!
AND LOL I'M SO RETARDED
I've been getting 80 coins earned each game since EXCITE BUTTS. In the corner it shows +10 and 70, and it never occurred to me that they're separate and thus 10+70 = 80 coins!
ahahahaha casual gaming makes me dumb ahahahaha

I just did it with WiiFit Plus. 2 weeks after it came out, Nintendo gave me notice that I had 2 weeks to register the game for my bonus "intend to buy" points. So I went out and got the game.
If I thought it was important I would have taken a screen shot and posted it.
I believe the "intend to buy" program is intended to encourage 1st month sales of games to people that already know they are gonna buy it. For one, it looks better in the NPD PR when you can spout off 1st month sales, and 2 it encourages people to buy new before the game can be bought used.

Why would they give you several years to register a game and get the "Intend to Buy" bonus? According to my account, I have until 2014 to register Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and still get the 10 coin Intend to Buy bonus. As long as you say that you intent to buy the game, it doesn't really matter when you actually register it (unless you want that other bonus for registering it right after it comes out).

I'm late to the party but I finally got the game. I really like it. Canoing, table tennis, and bicycling are all a lot of fun with another person. Golf is way, way better than before.
I fell in love with sword fighting. This is essentially what my dream has been for videogames since I first played them. The speed cutting with a friend is great too. I want more games with this. I can't believe companies haven't been jumping all over this idea or simply ripping the gameplay directly from Resort. I'll be picking up Red Steel, Zelda and any other game like this immediately.

Companies aren't about that.
Companies are about shortening your games and making pieces of it available as DLC.

But we're talking about Nintendo, who hates to even acknowledge that their system can go online. Plus unless your games on Wii include expensive plastic controllers or is made by Square it won't have DLC.

I got the game earlier this week (along with Fragile) for my birthday, and after several days of on-and-off casual play (an hour here, an hour there) I can say that I definitely enjoy parts of it, but like its predecessor it's purely a tech demo for hopefully better games in the future (namely Zelda). Of the 12 events, probably the 3 I've gotten the most enjoyment out of have been Swordfighting, Basketball, and Archery.
Swordfighting just feels right, even with the incredible annoyance of having to recalibrate the Motion + every 3-5 minutes. Duel mode has the potential to be fun, but I pretty much spent the first 1,000 points just pulling out apparently these Miis' fatal weakness: the "swimming *****-slap" (seriously, I've had entire rounds go by where I do nothing but slap the Miis off the platform, without them ever being able to attack). Speed Slice is a lot of fun, but the real winner seems to be Showdown as that's where the actual mechanics of the swordfighting shine (attacking from the right angle, blocking, etc.). It's a real testimate to this mode that my best friend, who loathes motion control, went through a round of this and basically said "yeah, I could enjoy a Zelda game like this." My only complaint about the mechanics is that the old legacy issue of the Wiimote not recognizing thrusts very well still seems to be in effect.
Basketball is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, because I enjoy it probably more because I'm a basketball fan than because the mode is actually any good. There's just almost no depth to the 3-on-3, and the 3-point shooting contest (though enjoyable) can only do so much. Archery is very nice, though I have to smirk at the game's assertions that the Wiimote is supposed to be the bow, considering 9/10 getting a proper aim usually results in me eventually pointing the Wiimote at the screen.
As for the other games, there are some decent ones in there. Frisbee Dog is surprisingly fun, as is its Golf mode (it's more fun than the actual Golf game, that's for sure); Air Sports is kind of relaxing (though I wish there was an actual throttle instead of continually thrusting the Wiimote forward for Speed boosts), though I found it harder to control the plane holding it paper airplane-style rather than just holding the Wiimote like normal; Bowling is as awesome as ever; and Table tennis is fun in short bursts.

Swordplay has no thrusts, just like Table Tennis. The only instructions involve tilts & swings.

Not true, since there's a stamp in duel mode for knocking an opponent off the platform with a thrust.
