Title: Why my job sucks..
Post by: UncleBob on August 24, 2009, 01:43:27 AM
While there are worse jobs out there, my job sucks.  I know I've posted about some of the wonderful people I get to deal with before, but occasionally I have some that take the cake.  Like the guy who asked what the difference was between a corded phone and a cordless phone.

Anywhoo, just the other day, I had a customer who came up and said she wanted to buy a DS.  She looked at them, pointed toward them and said "I want the pink one".  She then selected the game she wanted to go with it.  I tried to talk her into buying a case or such (as we're supposed to), but was shot down.

Anywhoo, I set the DS and game down on the counter and walk around it to ring her up.  As I'm walking around, she asks "What's the difference between this DS and the DSi?"

I explain the two cameras, the music player and the downloading of games and such (I always forget about the bigger screens...).  She decides to go ahead and purchase the DS Lite.

We continue to talk about the DSi (how good is the picture quality?  what kind of games can I download) while I ring her up.  She pays, I bag up her merchandise and she says "You know, it figures... as soon as you buy one of these, they come out with something better..."

Wow, she really could've just asked for more info before hand and make a more informed purchase.
Was she buying for someone else?  Daughter perhaps?

I don't see how this is evidence of your job sucking. She didn't give you any guff, nor did she change her mind after buying the DS Lite and return it right then. Where's the problem? That experience could have gone far worse.

I really, really hate dealing with stupid people.

Fact is, I shouldn't even be dealing with the general public.  I've found that, in my old age, I'm starting to lose my filter.  Sometimes, I say stuff to customers that I shouldn't.  Not like cursing at them or anything...  You know those conversations where you think something smartass in your head, but you say something nicer?  Sometimes, I get those switched up.  Without thinking of something nicer.

My thread is better.  It's about me.

To be fair to bob, the idiot sightings thread can be idiots ANYWHERE while this thread can evolve into a thread about work related issues and frustrations. (though i'm sure we have a million already, but whats one more?)

Here i'll start:

I walk in to work today wondering why everyone is stressed the hell out in my department. Turns out they'll be firing someone. They hired his replacement friday, and instead of telling him then and starting the new person fresh, one of the managers decided "well let him come in and work the morning rush, then the new hire can come in from 11 to 8 and we'll train her once it slows down".

Now thats fucked up, and pisses me off knowing they'd do such a thing. Once i finish this post i'll be hitting up employement sites :)

So you have no idea who is getting fired?

Ohhh, how fun. I hope everyone does something termination worthy out of frustration, except the person that is the dead man walking.

If it's you, scream loudly, "YOU CAN'T FIRE ME!  I FIRE YOU!"... then set the place on fire.

I guess i didn't make my post clear because i was rushing to get it done.

Me and everyone in my dept know who is getting fired, HE doesn't know though. I just found out about this all today, but everyone else but this one guy (Alex) heard from our supervisor that his replacement has been hired already. So instead of telling him then and there, they decided to wait for him to deal with "the morning rush" here, then bring in his replacement and break the bad news to him. I don't think they've told him yet, because I just saw him a few mins ago..

Its only him and one other person that take calls to for our customers looking to make service apointments. The other person went to lunch at noon, as usual, so he's still up there. My guess is they're using him to cover her lunch then by 1 when the other person gets back, they'll fire him and bring in the new girl (who isn't even hot so that pisses me off even more).

What aggrivates me is the thought that they'll likely pull this bullshit with me one day. If you're gonna fire me, tell me the second you decided to fire me. Waiting to finish out my shift is one thing, but make someone finish off the week and then come in for half a day monday when you already have a replacement is bull. I wish i knew on friday so i coulda told him to sleep in today.

You should give him horrible task to complete, like cleaning up something nasty in the bathroom.... which reminds me of story about when I went to a fast food restaurant 2 weeks ago.

But firings should happen on Fridays, as studies show that employees aren't as disgruntled when they know they have a weekend coming up anyway.

A line from Office Space counts as a study now?

LOL They never ended up firing this guy, and he's actually training the person they hired to replace him.. I told him Monday night what I'd heard about the situation, just to warn him. I don't remember if I mentioned it yet but he'd already had something planned anyway, so good for him, guess he doesn't mind staying here making a few extra $$$ until they decide to finally cut him loose. I woulda just fucking walked though..

is it a line from Office Space? My old bosses mentioned it several times back in the day at my old job, that would only reinforce why Office Space was such a good movie for anyone that has ever worked in an office.

I was told this monday i'm being thrown out of my job as "the work is drying up". Fine, as i'm a temp. I had a flurry of job interviews and stuff over the past 48 hours and i needed time to sort this all out so i asked the HR Director who said this is fine. I went home, made the calls (all of which didnt lead anywhere) then get a call back from my recruitment agency because i left early (which they agreed to!!!!) and i "made a big mistake" this morning which needed to be redone in my absence.

So they said not to come back tomorrow or friday.

I'm really angry right now because i've had no training (i been there for 3 weeks), all this morning i was alone and i have expressed concerns at the lack of training or documentation for me to follow. There's one guy who knew what to do, and he was off sick today so i was essentially idle all morning while the other people said "i have my own things to do".

The recruitment consultant puts it down to a "lack of communication" but i dont know.

Someone please make me feel better.

I used to work for a temp agency. One assignment was for a BofA Headquarters and I worked on the loading dock (truck off-loading, recycling, paper & package delivery). They paired me up with this fraile white guy from N. Africa that spoke mostly arabic that was a little hard to communicate with at times and had many french like girly mannerisms.
The problem was that there was heavy lifting that needed to be done repeatedly, and he was a skinny and very effeminate guy. After several days of my doing most of the recycling, because the other guy was slow from struggling to lift giant garbage cans full of paper, I decided that he really needed start carrying his own weight.

One hot summer afternoon, I pushed a big ass cart full of boxes of new paper to goto the building across the street. Which we had to deliver and bring back the big cans of paper to be recycled on the same cart. As soon as I push the cart across the street and am about to start offloading heavy boxes of paper, this punk ass African dude decides he needs a cigarette break. Right before all the actual work. All he did was walk across the street while I maneuvered a cart of paper that probably weighed as much as a VW Bug with the gear in neutral.

To make a long story short, after I off loaded the entire cart and picked up all the recycling bins by myself, I push the heavy ass cart back outside were "Frenchy the Arabic African Queen" decided he was finally finished with his cigarette and was just about to come back inside to help :rolleyes; O I push the cart over to him and say "Here, Ive done all the work so far, so now I'm taking a cigarette break". I pull out a cig, and start walking across the street leaving him with that heavy as cart to push back to the office. He was bitching about it as I walked away, but I didn't care, I was hot, sweaty, and tired. 20 minutes later he showed back up to the office (on the back side of the building back across the street from where we just where) crying and complaining about how I left him to do all the work while I went on break.

2 weeks later, they used that as part of a reason to let me go, but it was their bad, because they let the other guy go about 2 weeks after that. Apparently he couldn't do the (heavy part of) work and the new temp had complained so they let Frenchy go too. Bitter Sweet.

You got your own back on him which is good. I probably woul dhave done the same.

I just got told an hour after i left (which they authorised!!!!!) not to come back because i was making mistakes. I shouldn't be so angry about it but....

He's still here! I told him everything I had heard about his firing supposedly taking place this past monday that same night after work and he thanked me for the heads up, but the dudes STILL here. Considering no one knows what the **** they're doing in this place (management wise) it's not surprising..

I took a course on Human Resources and you should never fire people on Fridays. Always fire people towards the beginning of the week, Monday if you can. Letting them stew over the weekend allows them get angry and potentially destructive or violent. Firing people at the beginning of the week gives them the opportunity to immediately start applying other places and get their life on track.

My bosses where quoting a BS study (or Office Space)?

Would you fire them in the morning right after they got there?
just before lunch so they atleast get to leave really early?
or just before the end of the day so they get to go leave a little earlier than everyone else?

I did that (start preparing interviews in the latter half of the week) and I got thrown out for going home early (with permission!) to arrange interviews.

So yes, INSTA FAIL.

Aww thankies! :D

So i'm hitting back and wrote (in 15 mins) a letter to send to the chief exec of where i worked. This is the final line:

Quote
The primary point of a hospital is to care and support those who require it. Judging by the situation I have had to go through, and by the fact that this is the status quo, I feel that you should consider your tenure to be a disastrous failure, and ultimately the entire hospital has failed in this basic requirement and will continue to do so well in the future.

Harsh enough?

So, a customer calls to see if her Site-To-Store order has arrived.  I tell the customer "You'll receive an e-mail once your item arrives in the store.  Have you received an e-mail?"

"Yeah, but I wanted to make sure the item is there before I drive over there."

Now, I do completely understand where the customer is coming from - but I explain to the customer:
"You *only* receive the e-mail when the item is checked into the store." Seriously - any StS deliveries have their own little barcode.  It's scanned at the store level when we get it and that sends the e-mail.  There's no way for someone to get an e-mail without their order being at the store. "So, if you got the e-mail, your item is here."

"Yeah, I got the e-mail, I just wanted to make certain it was there before I drove all the way over there to pick it up."

"Again, if you got the e-mail, then it's here, but I can check for you, if it'd make you feel better."  Granted, I could have just checked to make the customer shut up, but it'd take a few minutes, I was the only one in the department and there were - you know - those pesky customers that actually needed legitimate help.

"Would you please?"

So I put the customer on hold, run to the back of the store, pull up the account - it shows the item instore.  I go back to the bin, just to verify that the item is there so I could tell her I saw the item myself.  Get back to the phone (while getting glares from this one guy who's been waiting this whole time.) and tell the customer that, surprise, the item is in the store.

"Well, I was wondering, because I didn't get the e-mail........."

WHAT THE ****?!?

We just had this five minute conversation that went "Did you get the e-mail?" "Yes." "Then the item is here." "Are you sure?" "Did you get the e-mail?" "Yes." "Then the item is here."

Now you're telling me you didn't get the e-mail?

UncleBob, you live in Canada, right? You need to take some pictures (lots) of the general public that shops at a Canadian Wal-Mart. I want to see how it compares to the typical inbred swamp-trash that I see whenever I have the displeasure of visiting any of the 5, yes 5, Wal-Mart stores (about 10 if you count the "Neighborhood Market" stores) within 13 miles of my house.

But just as many swamp creatures I bet. No offense to Bob here, cuz I (think) I've seen what he looks like.. but my god walmart has some fugly people within its walls. Not all of them employees, the majority of it is customers. I just don't get it.. Before walmart opened up in the city I work in (DIRECTLY ACROSS from a Target mind you) I've never seen so many slobbish looking people.. i just don't get it. When I go to Target theres actually lots of attractive people there, but walmart... I have to keep my eyes on the floor every second.

Update on my coworker: They let him go Friday, after making him work that "morning rush" which was about an hour and a half. So yeah, the poor guy got let go.. after training his own replacement that whole week and his only warning was the hearsay i relayed to him. I was told that some harsh words were given to him but I didn't get a chance to discuss the issue with my source, but I do know he left the conference room without saying a word to anyone; just got his stuff and left without saying bye to anyone. He didn't come to the bar with us that night either.

I don't know what vudu's talking about either, sounds like you handled the situation well even if you could've just checked for her sooner. In hindsight i'm sure you realized you woulda wasted less of the in-store customers time if you just went and looked in the bin for the phone customer without all the back and fourth about the email, but honestly I probably would've handeled it the same way as you.

Reminds me of my first busy retail holiday season, like a few days before christmas and I have a line from the register to the door. I had the register next to the phone, so I tried to answer it while ringing up my customers; usually i can multitask well enough and the customer at the register just wants to pay and leave, so theres not a lot of interaction between us. This one phone call though.. ugh.. an old woman called and started asking "do you have this, do you have that? what do you mean you don't have this isn't this the kinda stuff you sell?"

Basically, three customers later I'm still on the phone with this women and I was a little fed up and tried to excuse myself as kindly as possible. I apologized for not being able to help her fully, and said "I hope you understand, this is a busy time for us and I have customers here that need my help as well so if there's nothing else I can help you with, have a nice day and happy holidays." Thats when she asked "Do you listen to z-100?"
-"No," I replied.
-"Well why not?"
-"They don't play the type of music i listen to ma'am. I'm sorry, I really have to help these other customers, have a good day" I forced out with the last ounce of patience.
-"Oh well thats too bad.. *stops talking in an old womans voice* CUZ YOU COULDA JUST ONE $100 FOR LISTENING TO Z-100"
-"well I don't need your dirty payola money from your awful pop-music" *click* "Next customer!"

God i hated that phone call..

This. I mean, my last manager said it was my final week. Then wanted me to go out with drinks. I mean, if you're elitist and excluding people at work, what would make it any different at a bar with the same people?

They complained about my internet use when i see other people in the office doing the same thing. No matter. Either way i scribbled together a very harsh letter and sent it anonymously to the chief exec basically calling them out. I'll put it up later.

I worked at your hospital in a non-patient focussed role. In short, this temporary stint at your hospital (while brief) has forever tainted my opinion of the Trust and what it is supposed to stand for.

I received no training documents or documentation. I did not receive a handbook. I was not informed of the “bigger picture” concerning the work I did. I repeatedly had to ask questions to get answers to things I should already have known. I was thrown “in the deep end” on the first day. There was no induction. There was a feel of elitism within the department whereby I was deliberately excluded by some people. Concerns about me were not directed to me but via other means, while the same people who expressed these concerns never came to me to discuss and offer help and support; quite the opposite in fact. From my view everything appeared to be going smoothly. Certain people only know the procedure concerning various things, so when said person is not around then all work on that matter grinds to a halt. Certain staff were polite and appropriate to clients, then (when not in their presence) were totally dismissive and abusive about them. Decisions were made that was considered acceptable, were then (in my absence) were considered to not be acceptable then told simply to not to come back as a result of this.

It's not going to fix anything, but oh i did feel better having written it. FEEL MY MOIST WRATH!

Why don't you do what I do and just blatantly make fun of people? If they are stupid, tell them just how stupid they are.

Customer called today.  Wanted "a doubler HD high definition HDMI adapter"...

And just so I'm not always picking on the customers, one of my co-workers was sitting in the back.  She's already got a kid.  Her husband doesn't have a job (and hasn't as long as I've known him).  Now, I know Walmart doesn't pay a lot, but she was complaining about how she doesn't make enough money between her job and her husband's disability.

Oh, and she's expecting her second child.

Oh, and both of these kids were planned.  Well, "planned" in the sense that she's been trying to have them, not that she has any plans in place to take care of them or raise them.

Why does my job suck? Cuz its 21 mins after closing time on a holiday weekend and i'm the last one in the building, all because someone didn't have the fucking balls to tell some customer that we close AT 7:00pm on the fucking dot and instead told him he could ARRIVE AT 7:00pm..

which of course in his head means we're gonna bend over backwards for him AND let him pick which hole to put it in. Thats why @ 22 mins after closing time on a fucking holiday weekend, i'm sitting here posting this rant on an internet forum instead of driving home to take a shower, put on some nice clothes, pick up my girlfriend and go out to the movies, then maybe meet up with some coworkers at a bar for a repeat of last friday.

Overtime... gotta keep telling myself I'm making overtime... but it still doesn't stop me from being cranky as **** because I have the flu AND I'ts 24 MINS AFTER CLOSING ON A HOLIDAY FUCKING WEEKEND.

****!

EDIT @ 7:38PM
Guy come sin, talking to someone thru his gay little bluetooth headset, barely acknowledges that i'm there and leaves without ever thanking me for staying well after closing time, didn't even say have a good weekend or even "bye".
The only other person here, a nice old lady in sales who's helping out a customer, just asked who he was because "he's a complete ass" lmao.

Have a good weekend folks, i'm OUTTA HERE!

I'm glad you made it out EasyCure. I hope the rest of your night goes well.

Thanks.

My symptoms kicked into full gear as i picked my gf up at home, drove to the movies anyway hoping to see Extract but despite the commercials running every 2 seconds around here I never once heard "in select cities' so my theatre wasn't even playing it. I woulda watchd Inglorious Basterds but I woulda had to wait 2 hours before it started so I got pissed and went back into the car, which I already paid 2hrs on the meter for. Luckily I was able to give my parking voucher to someone who had just pulled in and they seemed genuinely grateful, so at least i was able to do a good deed.

i drove her back home after a whopping 30 mins of spending time together, and not seeing her since monday mind you, and drove home slowly because I kept getting dizzy and was too nervous to get back on the highway. Made it home, crashed in bed by 9:30 and woke up a few mins ago.

Awesome night.

I had to work 9-8 every day this week (7-7 friday, but you all know how that went) and had no time to see a doctor, all this sleep i got made me feel MUCH better. I'm just gonna make another post or two here, get some house chores done and her and I will have the rest of the weekend together. Why does my job suck today?

Because its Saturday and in the (almost) 2 years I've been here, I'm actually working a lame little 9 to 1 shift all because we didn't have coverage. Which is BS, it's just that with the supervisor of my department gone, the second in command decided not to suck it up and take one for the team. The only reason I agreed to work today so easily is I'm going on a trip next weekend and need all the money i can get.

Oh I am soooo pissed off right now. It's a moment I kinda knew was coming, but I mad because I couldn't prevent it. I've spent the most of the last 2 months workig on this loan with this black couple who just give me attitude everytime I ask for the necessary documentation to do the loan that they want me to do.

It's not my fault they own multiple investment properties and have a plot of land in another state that all has to be factored into the loan. It's not my fault the housing market pretty much crashed and now banks can no longer offer no-documentation loans and just hand out money to anybody that comes into the bank wearing a smile. It's not my fault the banks all took bail out money and now have to account for their bottom line so they must cross all their "t's" and dot all their "i's" so they know who they are lending money to.

I give these people a final list of what is needed and the wife agrees to get everything I ask for... reluctantly. For the 2nd time she says "this is it, don't ask for no more" then takes a week to gather up most of what I ask for and basically tell me to just work with it. I need one document, a document that she could have gotten from the bank when she went there a week ago to check off the list, a document she receives in the mail, and yet she never gives it to me.

I call her back today to let her know that everything is ready to go but we can't move forward without the Mortgage Statement to one of the properties that we are paying off in the new loan and she decides she doesn't want to deal with it anymore (I've asked for the document about 3 time since day 1) and is gonna go with someone else. I try to tell her that no matter where she goes, she is gonna have to give the same documentation and that all I need it the statement she receives in the mail every month. It's probably sitting in her stack of mail.... and she refuses to look for it.

I've sorted through rental agreement, bank statements, inheritance papers, pay-stubs, taxes, mortgage statements, credit reports, appraisals, disclosures, loan application, their attitude and bank requirements all over the last 7 weeks for this loan, and she is gonna dump the whole thing because of a mortgage statement that is easy to obtain.

It's not uncommon to lose a loan from time to time, but the amount of work, stress and time attached to this one makes me want to go to their house, kick open the front door and dig through their mail to find it myself. I kept my cool over the phone since there is a slight chance that I will be able to save it with one more phone call, but this is not a good way to go into the weekend.

No. I've seen all the documentation including the papers that show inheritance of one of the properties. I just need a mortgage statement showing the Loan #, Loan amount, payment and rate on it. It was a basic document needed to do a loan on a property. THeirs was a complicated file and she gave me all the unusual documents but couldn't give me the basic document that is always needed in every loan that I asked for from the beginning.

I got a reply! The chief executive of the hospital replied to my letter:

Quote

I don't have the letter here (it's with my friend who took receipt of it), but she apologised repeatedly, wants to investigate and make changes and basically wants more information out of me. And she's insisting on keeping my identity anonymous. SUCCESS!

I know how you feel when it comes to customers being stubborn about simple documentation. Luckily I don't have to deal with it too directly, but it still irritates me when a customer throws a fit around here when, for instance, the parts dept. asks to see a drivers license and registration when they come to order a key. What could've taken seconds of just reaching in a pocket or purse to pull out what they asked for becomes a 20 minute shouting match for no other reason than being stubborn.

As for my job sucking.. well I'm back to work after my little weekend vacation, and from all the reports I'm hearing, this place fell apart without me. I have a huge box worth of paper work to catch up on and I'm thinking of throwing it on the supervisors desk and demanding a raise (for the second time). I'm not sure if I should do it now though.. perhaps I should wait until december when I've officially been an employee under the new owner for 1 whole year..?

My cousin called me out of the blue yesterday and left a voicemail about having a potential job for me. I don't remember what the hell he does or where he works, but I know he's making decent money so perhaps I'll just try my luck there and give this place the finger.

I say find out what you cousin does and what job stability would be like.
Then wait till dec. if possible and ask for your raise.
If they say no, then tell them you have another offer on the table and if he has 1 week to make a decision.
If after 1 week the answer is still no, then they can consider that week the 1st week of your 2 week notice.

Thats what my plan of action would've been but I'm sure that the position won't be held for such a long period of time. Seeing as he's family I'm sure he can get some pull for me but 3 months is too much to ask for. I have to wait until after work to give him a call about it since my phone is currently dead, so lets cross our fingers!

A landed a dream job (even if it was temporary) and just up and quit. Even during my last two weeks that place was a nightmare;

the manager tried to dig up dirt on me, but all the employees liked me more than him so they snitched (to me) so instead of letting **** slide like everyone else did in that place, I went to the District Manager and told her what he was trying to do, and all the other fucked up **** he's done that everyone was afraid to say. She "launched an investigation" and had him removed from the store the next day he came in, and we never saw him again. Asshole.

Then, with their store manager gone, and their pt. asst. manager (me) leaving, right before halloween (the second biggest time of year for them) they BEGGED me to stay a couple of extra weeks, and I told them the other job would be priority and they understand, so I helped them out thru xmas. The other job you ask? NINTENDO WORLD STORE IN NYC BIOTCH! I was there for wii launch.. so much awesomeness...

*joygasm*

Anywho, my current job sucks and I'm lucky enough to have an interview today. Huzzah!

Its funny, i've thought the same thing. Aside from a nice place to live and a few fancy things like a nice NEW car and some shiny new guitars.. i wouldn't really know what to do with a grand lotto winning. I'd be the type to spread the wealth, so yes I would fly out all the regulars here (you know who you are) to some sweet party with just us (plus 1 guest).

Even with yearly payments, lotto winnings are huge.  It's such a ridiculous amount of money to get annually that I wouldn't know what to do with it with my middle class upbringing.  I'd have to use some of the money to take a trip out to Malibu or something to learn how to really spend like a jackass.

Unless of course we're hosting the official "NWR I'm Rich Bitch!" party in orbit or something.

Getting everyone together and having fun for a day or two doesn't come anywhere close to the kind of money state lotteries usually involve.

Unless of course we're hosting the official "NWR I'm Rich Bitch!" party in orbit or something.

This^ But i'd have a "tiku tiku" room for:

a. the underage
b. the prudes
c. the unsocial

which would include: A giant screen for every Nintendo console made to date and that big round DS station that the Nintendo World Store has so you could all engage in some friendly Nintendo related activities. Innoffensive music would play (video game soundtracks..), giant soda fountains (no not the kind at fast food chains, i'm talking a REAL fountain) and all the chips n dip you can eat.

What the "tiku tiku" room wouldn't have is:

Drinking and *EXPLICATIVE*, good party music to dance to, bumping n grinding, pool tables with a floating glass floor above themw here go-go girls are dancing*, drinking and *EXPLICATIVE*, and... what am i forgetting? Oh, the general FUNHOUSE type environment that the main party room would have.

*This is an idea a friend and i had for our dream pool hall. Do not steal it.

No, then you wouldn't be able to see the strippers well. There'd be blacklights around the border of the pool table.

Customer: "Excuse me, do you have this for the XBox?"  ::Points at Wii Fit Plus display::
Me:  "You mean "Wii Fit Plus?"
C: "Yeah!"
Me: "No ma'mn.  That only available on the Wii."

The lights go dim, lightening starts flashing in the back ground, the winds pick up, this woman's hair stands on end and her eyes start glowing as red as the pits of Hades...

C: "I DON'T HAVE A WII.  I HAVE AN XBOX."

...sorry?  Would you like a copy of Halo 3?

New job; i'll be just as busy (or busier) and I'll pretty much be my own boss since I'll have no one to answer to; ie no one to give me attitude, no one to ask for another favor, etc etc.

So this is the first day of my last week here. I was training my replacement (HAWTNESS!) all day and it seemed to go well, much much MUCH better than I expected (because her brains weren't burnt out by the HAWTNESS) and she seemed to catch on fast enough.

Why am I posting in the "why my job sucks" thread?

Well she was supposed to work my hours this week, and today I work from 9am to 8pm, which she agreed to do. 6:20 rolls around and the general manager tells her she can go home at 6:30 because we don't wanna burn her out on her first day. He asked if it was okay with me, as if I really had any say in the matter, and even thanked me. Then he walked away trying to hide the boner in his pants.

Of his boner?  No thanks.

Of the girl? I'll do my best. I already told her she's more than welcome to come to my going away party at a local bar this friday with the rest of our coworkers and at one point said "you don't gotta twist my arm to get me to have fun" so I'm sure she'll be there. She was all "you sure its okay though? No ones gonna feel like I don't belong there?" and i replied "no, if anything it'll make them like you more to see what you're really like. And if you don't go you'll be offending me personally" to which she said he "had" to go now with a smile..

What makes it all even sweeter is that she lives close to here so she'll have no excuse to NOT go home right after our last shift together this friday and show up to the bar (which is probably even closer to her still) in a skimpy outfit. If her ass looked this fat in business attire, I can't wait to see what a pair of tight jeans looks like (or better!). So yes, my camera will be in attendance and I plan on pretending to be sentimental and wanting a picture with every coworker; new and old.

ps. I just realized that "i pity the fool that doesn't phone home" is from the Simpsons.

Well I was devastated to find out she had a boyfriend but I was even more devastated that she might be a little on the prude side. (PM for details).

And its from an ooooold simpsons episode, I believe someone was at or watching on tv a stand-up comedian that made a Mr. E.T. joke and said that very same line. Anyone know the episode I'm talking about?
Title: Re: Why my job sucks..
Post by: NWR_insanolord on November 02, 2009, 09:43:37 PM
I recognized it as being from The Simpsons. I don't think it's that old of an episode, definitely closer to being new than being from the start of the series. I don't remember specifically which one it's from, but I remember the context. Everyone hates Homer, and it's all over the TV, and Homer switches it to Evening at the Improv "because they never talk about anything except the 1980s."

I didn't think id have to post in here for a while, considering that aside from boring and repetetive training, my new job is pretty cool so far but...

Today I went out in to the feild for training at the hospital I'll be working at. The first patient me and my supeprvisor had to screen was being tested for h1n1 even thouigh his diagnosis sheet said he was admitted for pnuemonia. Why does that suck for us?

Well before we went in to the patients room we asked the nurse if we should wear mask, cuz she wasn't but the patients one family member was, and she said no its fine, go on in!
Next thing we know we're being yelled at by one of the doctors...

She said we should be fine since he wasn't coughing and we were about 6ft away, and the test results SHOULD come back negative..

We'll see!

So, I'm at the TV wall, talking to a customer, showing him a copy of the ad, discussing some of the TVs we've got on sale. This guy comes up and, gruffly, says "Hey, can you help me get this TV?" and points in the general direction of the multitude of television sets we've got. I looked at him and said "Sir, I'm with another customer, I'll be with you as soon as possible or one of the two associates over at the desk would be able to assist you", pointing at the desk about 20 feet away.  He gets a 'tude and, rather loudly, says "Forget it, I just won't buy the damn thing. I just needed it unlocked anyway!". I reply "I'm sorry, but I don't even have the key to that. The two guys over at the desk have that key." He screams something and storms off...

...to the front desk where he makes a complaint that i actually told him I wouldn't help him because I was with another customer.

Must be why I enjoyed telling customers that they were wrong about something......
"I want to buy this blender I see on your website"
"We don't carry that blender, I'm very sorry"
"I'm looking at it, it's on your website, it's right in front of me!!!"
"What does the top of the website say?"
"Pottery Barn"
"I'm very sorry, but this is Crate & Barrel"
"........so why can't I order the blender?"

This is an actual conversation I had with a customer when I used to work for Crate & Barrel as my summer job when I was in school.  And it's not even the weirdest one I had.

My Dad has some crazy tech support stories. One lady was trying to use the mouse like an old sewing machine pedal.

I think it's funny how people call Pizza Hut and I identify the place as Pizza Hut and they ask for Dominoes oven baked sandwiches and I say this isn't Dominoes and they are all confused.

While on that matter I'll vent about other pizza related things.

I love how people order pizza for delivery and are baffled when the driver can't find the house when they don't have their lights on and their numbers are either not posted on the house or hiding behind a bush.

Once I couldn't get through an automatic gate and called the customer on my cell phone and she was trying to buzz me in and couldn't understand that you have to call through the gate terminal to be able to buzz people in. I ended up jumping the fence and walking to her place and she was still baffled that she couldn't buzz me in when I called on my cell phone -after explaining to her how those call-in terminals work.

It's also really frustrating when someone tries to pay for $12 worth of stuff with a $100 bill and gets upset when the driver only has $20 change.

That's just the tip of the crazy iceberg when it comes to customers at Pizza Hut.

the funny thing about some of my retail stories is that they're NSFW lol..

I've had many a drunken solicitation for sexual favors. Rather disturbing most of the time.

Though once I delivered to a bunch of partying people and they were playing Guitar Hero and convinced me to play a round. They were in awe of my skills and people wanted their picture taken with me. They guy who paid gave me a $20 tip for staying.

I'm still in awe of the guy I dealt with today.  It'd been one thing if he had claimed I was rude or just that I refused to help him.  No, he actually complained that I refused to help him because I said I was with another customer.  It boggles the mind.

The funny thing is that they never talked to me on the phone, it was a different guy who took the order and filled me on on what had been said. And I was all unsure what exactly was going to happen. I pull up to the house and they are all just standing there inside the doorway looking at me with the strangest faces. Kinda disappointing looking. What did they expect? A Johnny Depp look-a-like? I worked part time as a night janitor for a couple of restaurants for about a month, not because I wanted the job, but I did it to fill in for a friend who got hired at two jobs at the same time.

It wasn't too bad, but the janitorial service lost the contract because someone broke a fire house outlet in the kitchen. They decided to blame it on the janitorial staff. Thing is, they had 24 hour cameras. We told them to watch the tape to prove we didn't do it, but they refused and just blamed it on us.

Here is more of a I suck at my job story...

Myself and a coworker were called out to Taiwan to install and repair some machines.  The company had a strict safety policy and security policy (this will come in later).  Anyway we were working long hours 12-14 a day and it was friday so we decided to go out that night to Taipei.  Ended up drinking too much and getting back to the hotel around 4am.  I recieved a call at around 8am from our representitive that the customer wanted us to come in on saturday so I managed to bargin with them to let us come in around 10.  I was really hungover but started to feel ok by 9:30 so my coworker (also hungover) and I catch a cab to go to work.  As soon as I step outside the hotel I'm confronted with oppressive heat and humidity and start to feel sick again.  The cab ride only made it worse because they suck at driving over there.  As I'm walking to the front door a wave of nausia hits me and I start to puke in the bushes.  I start to feel better but as I walk into the lobby the security guard was talking on the phone in chinese and then hands the phone to me.  Someone in the security office must have been watching because she asks me if I'd been "drinking beers" I tried to play it off as food poisioning (which may have been part of the problem) but they wouldn't let me in to work on the machine.  Thankfully the customer wasn't there on Saturday (so nobody found out) and it turns out there wasn't much to do anyway and could have waited till monday.  Anyway I don't drink much when traveling for the company anymore even on the weekends.
