Title: Grindhouse
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on March 12, 2007, 08:07:25 PM
GRINDHOUSE

Who's gonna go watch it?

Friday April 6th.

Is this the ultimate "B" movie or what? I've never watched a double feature before, so this will be my first, but this movie just looks like so much of everything you want in a movie only in "B" movie form. Girls, Guns, Knives, Cars, Violence, Sex, Zombies, Explosions, what more could I ask for? I'm not sure but I'll bet if its good, it'll be in this movie.

I love "B" movies so this is definately a "must watch" for me. I almost want to goto the drive in just to watch it. Beer, liquor and girls all at the drive through... sounds like a good time to me.

Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez
Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis, Rose McGowan
, how can you go wrong?

LOL--I saw the preview for this in 300.

They both look wonderfully bad, but I'm most looking forward to Planet Terror. It's a chick with a machine gun for a leg going on a rampage.

This is at the top of my movie watching list, I have been hyped about this for ages. Luckily too, Australia isn't one of the countries splitting up the two and adding additional scenes making each a feature presentation.

I saw a lot about this last night while watching The Riches.  I <3 Rose Mcgowan ever since The Doom Generation.

Aside from The Simpson Movie, this is the only other movie this year that really interests me.

Several countries are actually splitting the movie up into two seperate full feature presentations? that kinda defeats the purpose. This movie in intended to be a double feature complete with false previews: like Machete!!. This seriously seems like the perfect booze and munchie movie that you watch at a drive-in theater.

You couldn't keep me away from this movie with infected blood on the ticket! I predict many a movie goer won't "get it" even with QT and RR name all over the marketing. Me, Day 1, 12:00midnight.

IGN has an exclusive trailer up for GRINDHOUSE

*WARNING*
Adult content, such as nudity and stuff included in this uncensored clip of Eli Roth's "Thanksgiving" movie trailer that is placed between the two "feature" movies.

Ok, I just finished watching it(it took really long to load), and this clip is funny, sexy and disgusting.

Funny = stuffed human turkey, the "its blood" scene and the rediculousness of the trailer in general
Sexy = The Cheerleader on the trampoline (until the knife)
Disgusting = The skull fvcking at the very end

This movie is gonna be great, I'm definately going to see the night before opening.

I've been wanting to watch Grindhouse, hopefully they will have it here in Toronto, after watching that trailer I am so freaking excited to watch it, I will be the one that is laughing like a maniac during the movie in the little cinema room.

Werewolf Women of the SS ftw!

I think that recently horror moviess have takem themselves too seriously, I watch their trailers and I just yawn in boredom, and so I never want to watch them. Grindhouse however, is just pure goddamn fun, so how can anyone not like it.

I'm hoping that if this movie is the big success that I'm hoping it will be(provided that it is as good as I'm anticipating), that this will get a sequel where maybe one or more of the movie previews become one of the "feature" presentations.

Friday night this movie is going to tear it up. Can't wait to see it. Rodriguez and Tarantino are the ultimate combo, anything those two touch is pure gold.

I saw some reviews, and one in particular stood out. He said Grindhouse exceeded all of his expactations, and the problem with that is that they were already set really high.

I have to go to a thursday nite viewing.

I still think it's one was one of the better Vampire movies out there.

What a hellava good-time at the movies! DeathProof might have been better off being the first movie, as I said in a earlier post, alot of people didn't get it and walked out about 30mins into it. I liked it alot. I love how QT always reminds us he's made other films and brings the cameos along to prove it. It was a little too "talky" in some spots, especially after watching 6 crazy trailers and 1 GREAT zombie flick but all in all a great change of pace from Planet Terror. Now Planet Terror, HOLY SH*T THAT IS ONE FUN MOVIE. RR is so good at make fun movies that make no sense but are fun nonetheless (Once upon a time in Mexico, I'm looking at you!) It is just such a goodtime, if you can turn your brain off. And as great as the movie was, THE TRAILERS MAY HAVE BEEN EVEN BETTER, TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU!

Please "Don't" Miss this in the theaters and "Don't" go see it alone!

I just saw this movie, and all I have to say is:
If your are waiting for this to hit DVD to watch it.... DON'T
If you plan on going to see this by yourself.... DON'T
If you were planning to go watch another movie instead.... DON'T
Just DON'T

But really the only thing I'm gonna comment on is Death Proof.
It starts off slow, but it finishes strong. lol @ Stunt Man Mike.
the theater was seriously clapping at the end.

Bad Idea! Half of the fun of this movie is seeing it in the movies. The atmosphere is all the fun. You have never been to the movies until you seen the trailer for a movie called "Werewolf Women of the S.S." in the theater. Trust me when I tell you. If you go see one movie in the theater this year, well "Don't" be stupid and go see Spider-Man 3 but  GrindHouse was really, really good. Plus it has "Werewolf Women of the S.S." Don't wait till Thanksgiving or Halloween to get the DVD, or you might want to kill something with a bloody machete.

I don't see any movies in theaters.  The last movie I saw in theaters was Return of the King, and that was only because I was dragged to it.  Before that, I think it was maybe Insomnia (2002).  I can probably name all the movies I've seen in theaters since 1999 on two hands.

Vudu: I'm just like you and I hate going to the theater, but this is one of those movies that if the theater is packed with people that ant to see the movie just as much as you, it will only make the movie that much better. Besides it doesn't help that I got a few free movie passes to use.

and you must be in Europe if they are charging you double ticket prices.

i ended up paying alot in the theaters......2x 5.50 for tickets, 4.25 for popcorn, 2x 3.75 for drinks. I brought my brother. We thougth the movie was great. I hope they don't split it up as iv heard they're doing. That would ruin the movies.

The two work so well together I'm not looking forward to seeing them apart. I'm renting Death Proof (which I way preferred over Planet Terror) but the short length of each (and the bad-taste trailers in between) made the experience in theaters way more than the sum of its parts.

they seem to be splitting them up wher I live (the UK) this makes me sad I won't see it the way it was intended to be seen .

Its just Death Proof over here and no sign of Planet Terror . I'm not holding my breath for the fke trailers being intact either.

Whoever decided to do this should be hurt!! and hurt bad!!

EDIT: I would like to add I had thought they'd changed it everywhere until I read this thread. Which makes me a bit more mad. I feel even more cheated in a way now.......

Also, I saw Death Proof this weekend.  It completely sucked as a stand-alone title.  I'm really mad I didn't get around to seeing Grindhouse in theaters.

they are not good titles by themseleves, and were never intended to be im suprised Tarintino and Rodriguez don't act more pissed off about having their artistic integrity compromised, but hey money appeals to most all of us.

Planet Terror is a parody, and Death Proof is an homage, they dont stand on their own very well. Its not worth it without the missing reels and the trailers inbetween. That was the whole hook fo the movie, and then the Weinstiens decide to take it out and ruin it. I refuse to buy them separately. Anyone who does is not doing the movie service. Grindhouse is a movie Planet Terrot and Death Proof are segments. What if they released all the segments of Creepshow by themselves?

Just watched Planet Terror on blu-ray. It's FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! Happy grin from start to finish. I will watch Death Proof tomorrow.

Edit: Since I can't find a Crank or Sin City thread... Crank is awesome, and I can't wait for Crank 2. Sin City was cool, and my preferred short was the one with Goldie.

Have you seen either of the Grindhouse films before? If not, don't bother with Death Proof ;)

Planet Terror became an instant classic amonst my friends and I but we all agree that Death Proof, while a good premise, didn't deliver. It sounds like a dumb complaint but there was seriously too much talking in that movie and the characters were nothing special so why spend the majority of the movie fleshing out the little character they all had?

And since you brought it up... I still haven't seen Crank (almost forgot about that movie, i should rent that soon) and Sin City really was a great movie. I was dissapointed with The Spirit, though, but I still enjoyed it.. Just wasn't as good as SC and 300.

Well a friend kept telling me it was the most ridiculous "guy movie" out there and I kept meaning to get out to theatres but never did, then forgot about it, then meant to get the dvd but it was overpriced, and forgot about it....

I'll check out Circuit City later this week to see if i can get it for cheap ;)

actually of the two movies i prefer death proof, and actually if i were to say any of the two movies could stand alone it would be Death Proof and not Planet Terror. However, i still say that in order to fully enjoy both movies one must watch both.

I also highly recommend crank.

as far as Grindhouse, I feel like Tarantino and Rodriguez bloated the films to where they were just boring as hell.  The over-the-top ness of the film was fun for a little while, but it got tired pretty quickly IMO.

DO IT!!  You might want to pick up Death Race as well.  Same actor, but excellent action/plot balance.

I know he was in Death Race as well but that movie never appealed to me. I felt like the premise wasn't as over the top as Crank (you're alive as long as your adrenaline is pumping.. what do you do? KILL KILL KILL!!) but it just seemed to.. well.. stupid lol. I dunno, I'll check it out if I can get it cheap enough, and if I don't like it I'll just give it to a cousin or something.

As far as the Death Proof stuff goes, I guess I'll never "get it" like some people don't get Planet Terror. I think that movie was a wonder homage to movies in the same genre as it and the over the top action was great, because of how campy those movies can be sometimes (ie: Return of the Living Dead = so bad its good).

Death Proof.. it was just boring to me, meh.

Title: Re: Grindhouse
Post by: Ian Sane on January 21, 2009, 12:35:26 PM
Death Proof is the worst movie by a repected director I've ever seen.  It's the film equivalent of being invited by someone to hang out with their friends but you don't know anybody and just sit there while everyone talks about in-jokes and references and people and such you don't know.  We the audience are the newcomer bored to death and unable to truly involve himself in the conversation.  In the beginning when the girls are in the bar my brother summed it up as "this is like being in a bar for real only you're not drinking".  And the dialog is such boring BLATHER too.  Way to perpetuate the stereotype of women not having anything interesting to say.

By the time something actually happens we're already AN HOUR INTO THE MOVIE.  F*ck that.  Thankfully I saw Planet Terror first (which I loved) because I never would have given it a chance if I saw Death Proof first.

The sad thing is though when you watch the extra features on the DVD Quentin Tarantino is just so damn enthusiastic about his movie.  You feel sorry for him.  You feel almost guilty for hating his movie.  My brother and I both figured that if we knew Tarantino personally and he had asked our opinion of Death Proof we would be unable to give him an accurate opinion because he's just so into the movie that we figure telling him it sucked would hurt his feelings too much.

Damaan and Ian both express my views on that movie pretty well. Nothing much to say except how AWESOME Planet Terror was ;)

From what I understand, the DVD versions (and presumably the BRD versions, too) are expanded greatly beyond what was shown in theaters.

A little research on IMDb shows that Death Proof was 90 minutes in the theater and 114 minutes on DVD.  Planet Terror was 95 minutes in the theater and 105 minutes on DVD.

It seems like the theatrical versions are much better than the "director's cut" versions because they cut out a lot of the parts that drag on.

Yeah i heard of that at time of the dvd release, we might of even discussed it here before this bump...

Why would you want a LONGER version of Death Proof ;)

It oozes his annoying side, where he talks to much and he makes his characters mirror that. I enjoy most of the mans films, but listening to him talk makes me envy the deaf and this movie did the same for me.

i think Kashogi and me are of the same opinion. The movies is about style. The way they talk, the way things go down. It does have alot of conversation, but its interesting conversation, but what i pay attention to more is what he does with the camera. I assume Tarantino has some foot fetish. watch the movie and count how much feet is in it. Then when thats done and your on the advertisement section, look at all the product placement jokes. There's a ton of things going on in the movie, very subtle things.

I can't wait for Inglorious Basterds to come out. Can't wait to see Pitt working with Tarantino, especially after I've been watching Band of Brothers.

There was too much boring lady talk. I'm not saying the movie ain't good in general, and I can see some being happy with it, but it just didn't kick me in the nuts like Planet Terror did even though they are completely different movies.
Title: Re: Grindhouse
Post by: EasyCure on January 22, 2009, 11:52:06 AM
Sure they were completely different style movies, but you'd think going to see a movie about some maniac who kills people (women, mostly i suppose) by wrecking his car with them inside while he survives in his lil saftey zone, would be pretty bad ass or as you put it, a kick in the nuts, but it wasn't.

The saddest part is that it started out really strong. The intro was great, how a mysterious stranger walks into a bar, picks up a girl and then tortures her. Then that last scene when he plays chicken with the other car.. that was awesome! What happens after all that was completely unexpected and pretty boring, IMO. It's like, going to see the Friday the 13th remake next month, expecting to see some pretty gruesome and hopefully imaginative ways for these damn kids to get killed... and instead theres one sweet scene, followed by 80 mins of teen drama at a lake, then they somehow kill Jason.

Nope, I didn't actually. I wanted something as outrageous and cheesy (in a good way!) as Planet Terror and those fake coming attractions, instead i got crap coming out of peoples mouths. At least the girls were easy on the eyes, but thats the most fun i had during those 90 mins.

Kurt Russel was fine. It's those damn women that spoke way too much. Death Proof should have been edited down to 40 minutes, and even so that's pushing it.

Maybe I'm not much of a fan of Quentin's style. I don't like Kill Bill. I don't like Death Proof. Maybe I haven't watched enough of his movies to make such an assumption, but those were the movies I watched and none other.

Wow. You really should. Pulp Fiction is one of the best movies ever made. I've seen it so many times. I've literally gone back and watched parts of that movie just because of how great they were.

And I probably will check them out. I just have to remember myself to ask my friends if they have them on DVD or something.

Reservoir Dogs is his best film.  Pulp Fiction tends to feel like it drags at parts after multiple viewings.

While I agree it drags on, Pulp Fiction has the best dialogue in anyone of his films; hands down.

Really?

Samuel L.'s first and last scene with Travolta are pure genius.

that was one of the jokes about the movie, in interviews he was talking about how it was funny when villains don;t go out on top form. I agree. Nice use of thrice Kashogi

Oh I know it was a joke, didn't need an interview to tell me, but just because i got it doesn't mean i have to like it. The only good part about it was that it ended :)

Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs?

Watched both. Pulp Fiction is "meh", and Reservoir Dogs is "ok".

However I am a bit excited for Quentin's new movie, Inglourious Basterds. Although I'm a bit apprehensive with this movie because I was just as excited for Death Proof, and look where that took me.

Caliban, I'm betting its going to not be your type of movie. I'm expecting a lot of Talk inter cut with ridiculous violence in a WWII setting. After seeing the trailer, i'm not even sure if I'm fully on board.

Yeah that's why I said I was a bit apprehensive because I'm aware of the high possibility of the presence of long dialogue scenes.

MACHETE!! (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/16770)

Do I need to say more!?

... I do? oh... ok

Quote
Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis are teaming up to begin filming Machete on July 29th. They are co-directors.

-DANNY TREJO is returning (obviously) as "Machete", the madman bent on revenge.
-MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ ("Lost", Fast & Furious, Avatar) is said to be playing "Luz".
-JONAH HILL, the comedian who has starred in such films as Superbad and the forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy Funny People, will play "Julio".
-Lastly, a legend of our time, ROBERT DE NIRO, will take on the role of "Senator McLaughlin".

Machete (Trejo) is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator (De Niro). The film was teased as a faux trailer that was directed by Robert Rodriguez in Dimension Films' Grindhouse, which featured a full-length film from both Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino.

Why bother?  The trailer was so amazing they're never going to be able to top it.

This reminds me--I'm still upset that the trailer for Machete was the only one that made it on either of the DVD releases.  I never got to see the others.  :(

Seriously? (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Grindhouse+trailers&l=1)

Thanksgiving didn't show up on the DVD? Thats one that I would've thought was an actual movie.
Glad I saw it in the theater like it was supposed to be seem.

Although I agree that the trailer for Machete really said it all, and nothing added could really make it any better, I would like to see a movie based on Cheech Marin's character.

CHEECH FTW!

I don't care what anyone has to say, whether or not the actual movie will be any better than the trailer. I'm excited for it, I love the dude that plays Machete in it, he's crazy!

In an article at Variety talking about Overnight Productions, the trade revealed that production began this week on Machete, a feature version of the fake trailer that was included in Grindhouse.

Danny Trejo is returning as the title character and Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey play supporting roles.

Robert Rodriguez is co-directing with protege Ethan Maniquis.

LOL

I'd rate the movie a 10 if one of those actors kills the other.

I'd rate it an 11.5 if we can get a love scene between Jessica Alba & Michelle Rodriguez on top of that.

Machete has a release date - Sept 3rd 2010 - just before Labor Day weekend and the subject matter of the movie happens to coincide with some controversial political stuff happening right now. Specifically in Arizona with their immigration laws.
Robert Rodriguez and Machete have put together a special Cinco De Mayo Trailer to send a message to Arizona: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44943 (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44943)
