During today's Nintendo Direct, a fan vote was announced to determine the newest Smash Bros character after Lucas and Mewtwo.
The vote will be held starting today on SmashBros.com, and the number of write-in votes will determine which characters will be added.

It's time to organize a fan campaign. First, no Ridley. Let's just get that out of the way. He's too big anyways.
I say, King K. Rool. Of all the characters to choose from out there, he's my number 1 choice and I'm hoping he gets a huge surge of votes and finally gets into a Smash Bros. game.
However, if people won't support this, then I'll just have to go to my fallback character and start a campaign for Bubsy, everyone's second choice character.

Voted for Mog from Final Fantasy VI. I know its obscure, I know it probably won't happen, but I still think he would be a great character.
King K. Rool would also be a great addition. Like a Bowser clone.

I hope Nintendo is prepared to ignore several hundred thousand Ridley votes. (I just did it too, and I don't even think he makes sense, I just want the meme to end.)
What would have been super awesome is if they announced this survey, and then said that the top two most-requested characters would get in no matter what, with preliminary models shown off at E3 as a big reveal (with obvious provisos about them having to be Nintendo characters wholly under their IP control, etc.). They'd get nuts amount of attention, and there could be some great troll campaigns for Tingle or whatever.

Actually one of the only reviews that I disagree with Jon I grew up with the ORIGANAL bubsy and love it to the core.

Can't decide who I'll vote for since there's a lot a choices I'd like to see. Of course it won't matter since I imagine Sakurai already has a list of characters he's decided potential movesets for anyway and it'll end up being which one of those gets the most votes that gets in.
Knowing Sakurai he'll announce at E3 that Ridley was the winner but reveal a different character will be playable anyway and then just laugh his ass off for 3 minutes straight. Don't worry, they'll have an alternate custom choice that involves them wearing a Ridley hat for maximum trolling.

I have my doubts that this fan voting has anything to do with the current games. Due to how long it takes to develop and balance characters, DLC characters are likely already chosen and being worked on. Fan votes will be saved for a sequel.
I suppose fan votes could also be turned into Mii costumes which sounds like Occam's Razor for Super Smash Bros. trolling.

I want Snake.
I want Ice Climbers.
(I am positive we will magically get Ice Climbers working for the games.)
These clones will be the easiest to pull off and balance for maximum efficiency. I predict most of these characters will be released this year and a few early next year and that is all.

I can't help but try to think of a character that *I* would like to see but SSB fanboys would not. I don't care much for Tingle so that makes it hard. Adam from Other M, maybe? No, wait that would piss ME off. Maybe Slippy Toad with his girly voice would work.
Maybe I should just write in characters like Joanna Dark, Banjo, Conker and the Jet Force Gemini team as my own little way to stick it to Nintendo. Back in 2000 or so I figured those character would eventually make their way into SSB anyway. They were all seen as "Nintendo characters" back then.
Or I can just write in Capcom characters to nudge things towards Capcom vs. SSB!

Sure. And then Rare was sold in 2002 which means some of those characters listed have belonged to Microsoft/Rare for over twice as long as they ever belonged to Nintendo/Rare. I'd suggest you move on with your life but medical studies have shown that people who harbor grudges shorten their lifespan because the bitterness causes them to age faster and it puts a lot of stress on their heart so one way or another you'll eventually stop complaining about everything Nintendo.
And that's how you stick it someone. Boom! Roasted.

My top two picks are already Assist Trophies (Midna and Dark Samus). My third choice is third party but currently exclusive (Bayonetta).
Realistically, I think an Inkling from Splatoon has the best chance: first party, new IP, and nothing like existing characters.

Assist trophy or not vote for who you want please! Think about the Pac man ghosts. An attack for Pac Man and an assist trophy! That's not all, AND a stage hazard for the same characters!
At the very least voting now gives hope for the next game. For now though it's not like its impossible to make the Takamuru assist trophy just not be available when Takamaru himself is chosen as a fighter.

I have three ideas for my vote (still unsure)
I was thinking Donkey Kong games dont have very much coverage in smash 4, so Dixie Kong could be a cool choice. I was thinking through the DK characters and she seemed the coolest, runners up for me were Donkey Kong Junior and K. Rool.
Isaac from Golden Sun was my second one, I mean, its a nintendo franchise that has remained practically untouched by Sakurai, other than him being an assist trophy in brawl. Idk, could be cool, he seems like he'd fit in perfectly.
My other choice is Vaati from Minish Cap, Four swords etc. He could have some rad moves, plus a sick final smash. The only thing that steers me away from Vaati is the abundance of Zelda characters.
Considering voting Shovel knight, but i feel like they're more likely to choose a nintendo character -.-
Any thoughts on this?

Sakurai recently admitted that Takamaru was originally planned as a playable character, but he decided the character didn't have enough international appeal which is a shame. People will get over it, and if they don't, who cares about them? I'm not familiar with Takamaru outside of cursory googling. However, there's a case to be made that Takamaru could be a really unique playable character.
Sakurai also previously stated that characters from series that have no future are rarely chosen. I understand that sentiment though being included in Super Smash Bros. can breathe new life into the characters and the series (e.g. Kid Icarus). At this point, all the usual suspects, the major characters have made the roster (except for maybe Ridley) so for DLC and future installments, I'd like all Nintendo characters to be considered as long as they can bring something new and unique to the table.
I'd be fine with Daisy as a Peach alt though she really should have been a clone over Dr. Mario. When I get home, I'll probably cast my vote for Midna.

To be fair, Sakurai specifically said "rarely," not "never." (http://mynintendonews.com/2014/10/09/sakurai-explains-how-characters-are-chosen-for-inclusion-in-super-smash-bros/) Ultimately, he has final say and will pick a character if he thinks it works.
As for Mother, Lucas was supposed to replace Ness in Melee before Mother 64 was cancelled. Then, Lucas was already in Brawl before Shiesato Itoi said he doesn't plan on continuing the series. Maybe we'll see Paula and/or Kumatora was Ness and Lucas alts, but there's probably very little chance of seeing Poo or Claus.

Though I will say the Facebook page isn't absolute. We've gotten word from a Nintendo rep that all characters will be taken into consideration. Just keep in mind the highest vote doesn't guarantee a character.
