You can only have a one word answer and the clues given can not contain parts of the password. So, if the password was gunshot, one could not use gun as a clue and vice-versa.
Thus, Pokepal's guess is incorrect. Big shocker there.
Second clue - Clue

Gun was to put you on the path of that weapon since revolver is a type. Clue was for the Board game Clue in which the gun is called the revolver in that game. Band is for the band Revolver. The Beatles refers to their album called revolver and pistol was to make sure that people stayed on track with thinking of gun words.
It's your call Fatty. If you want to do a word now, you can do so. Or if you want to keep guessing and rack up points, you can choose that option as well.

New word.
First clue - Mechanized

Title: Re: Password
Post by: Khushrenada on November 04, 2014, 08:28:28 PM
Nope. The clip I linked to shows that it is just about guessing words. You may be thinking of pyramid in which they had different words based around a theme. For instance, the category could be "Things in a Kitchen" and then they would have 7 different words relating to kitchen items and one person would try to describe them and have the other player guess what those words are. But in Pyramid, one player can say and describe as much as they want of any word and the other can guess as much as they want until getting the word in the time limit. In password, it must be one word per clue and one guess per clue and there is no theme but all random words.
If you don't like it, make your own game.

Game Show Network in the States still shows both the $25,000 Pyramid and Super Password (an '80s version of the Password concept) weekday mornings. My brother and I love both of those, and we watched the former growing up on another network. Anyway, on GSN the morning is basically the only time of day they aren't showing six hours of freaking Steve Harvey Family Feud in a row. D:

That's how it works for the game shows, but Khush is just doing an abridged version where he just says words without them being related to each other. Though it would be fun to try to come up with an answer/final word for Khush's randomized words! That's a game for another day, though! :P: :
EDIT: What you're thinking of was how all of the game shows, Password, Password Plus, and Super Password worked.
Title: Re: Password
Post by: Khushrenada on November 04, 2014, 08:54:50 PM
I'm sure I've stated my views of GSN a few times in the past on this board. But it's been awhile and reposting the same thing over and over hasn't stopped Ian Sane, so why should I hold back?
Basically, from 1997-2002, Game Show Network was at its peak. It was full of classic games and shows. Black and White Password, Password Plus, To Tell the Truth, What's Your Line, Richard Dawson Family Feud, Match Game 72-79, 80's The Price is Right, recent Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. It was a plethora of great games shows along with the lesser ones like Joker's Wild, Tattletales, The Newlywed Game, Hollywood Squares.
However, then they began to start making their own game shows and acquiring more recent stuff like the Regis editions of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, New Family Feud, 1 vs 100, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Deal or No Deal, etc. They let the real, classic and good game shows go to the wayside. I know it's a money thing as it is probably cheaper to air those than the classic stuff (which blows my mind) but the quality sucks compared to them. The only original program I ever like of theirs was Lingo. That one actually got it right.
Once in awhile, they would even slip in an episode of The Gong Show which I thought was amazing. It was my type of humour. Alas, the channel soon slid into mediocrity about the time they stopped airing The Price is Right and Lingo came on. But for awhile, Game Show Network was all I needed. I'd come home from school and just watch it straight or record shows during the day and watch them later. I was a Game Show Junkie.

Oh yeah. It started with Password Plus I think when they revived the show. Unless later episodes of Password did that. In the clip I linked, you will see that it is always random. There is no final word. What can I say? I always preferred the black and white original with Allen Ludden as host. I'm a Password purist. Plus, I never cared for Bert Convy as a host. That clip you link is a perfect example of how the show goes to hell around the 6:00 minute mark under his watch.
That is why I called the thread Password as well. I'm going with the original simple version. We could go to Password Plus or Super Password if enough people want to play and form up teams. For funhouse simplicity, I just thought this would be sufficient.

Sorry Pokepal. And I was so proud of you for a moment there until your second guess. That is why I tried to end many of my words in the past tense. Upgrad-ED, mechaniz-ED, convert-ED, factori-ED (which was an odd form of the word but it was done to try and get anyone guessing to get the right form/tense of the word).
Title: Re: Password

Title: Re: Password
Post by: Khushrenada on November 05, 2014, 12:47:48 AM
Of course, I could always rule that since you got a form of the word it is close enough. I suppose those that want to play along could make their voices heard on the matter and if there is support for it, I wouldn't have to be too strict. However, I do think that the whole proper word needs to be correctly guessed. For instance, if the word was "Watching" and someone guessed "Watch", you could say they were close enough but "Watch" can have two meanings and "Watching" has no meaning relating to a timepiece you can wear.
In the meantime, that was the sixth clue so I'll give Brandogg 4 points whether he's playing or not.
EDIT: If you want to do a round, we'll give it a shot.

The word is chaton, which is the french word for kitten
Title: Re: Password
Post by: Khushrenada on November 06, 2014, 05:27:16 PM
Ok. Well, that went smoothly....
You were only at the fourth clue but I take it you didn't want to continue?
If I was giving clues for chaton, I probably would have gone French, cat, baby, translate, as that would probably be a better progression to lead the guessers to the word. Starting out with soft and fluffy and expecting people to guess the French word for kitten from that is probably not the best start. And don't know how internetz is supposed to help players get to that word. Not to mention foreign words not common used or adapted into the English language is probably a whole no-no to begin with for basing a word on.
At least when you started going foreign, I was with you. The white flag and foreign clues I took to be French and surrender. I decided to disregard the internetz clue and combine that with soft and fluffy. Thinking that you may have been purposely vague with soft and fluffy to make us think the word would have something to do with cats, as expected from you, I then tried to think of a French word used in English that was soft and fluffy and went for the food angel with meringue, which is the white top part of key lime, lemon meringue or banana cream pie.

At this point, I think people should be able to understand and get how to play the game. If someone else wants to try giving out clues to words, feel free to volunteer. I can even supply you with words as well so that you have the challenge of giving clues to a random word instead of having to think or find one. Otherwise, I'm fine to keep challenging myself and seeing how well I can give clues to a word. Or if someone would like to volunteer a word for me to use, you can pm me suggestions as well.

Now, maybe this would be tough if you don't have winter or snow because you may not think of an ice scraper so that may not be a word you think of often. I think the first 4 clues are now self-explanatory when you now what the word is. As for 5 and 6, my goal was to get someone to say Skyscraper and then respond with skyless (which is a word according to online dictionaries via Google) and hope that someone could finally piece it all together and realize they needed to remove sky from skyscraper to get the word.

Thinking about it, I probably call it an ice scraper 50% of the time. However, I know there is a sort of spatula metal device that can be used to scrape gum off the bottom of tables and chairs. I was hoping that someone would put scratcher and the other two clues together to realize the word was just scraper. Not sure what other clues I could have given.

Incor.... Holy crap! Someone got it! Yes! The word is lunge! Yeesh.
Are not thrust, parry, and lunge sword fighting terms? I held off on using parry as I felt it denoted the wrong type of action but thrust is a forward motion. Fencing was to stay on sword fighting terms. Forward sudden movement was a 3 word clue done over the span of 3 clues. Lunging is a forward sudden movement. Since players, (mainly Ceric), seemed to be straying away from the word lunge or sword fighting, I used Brandogg's jab as an indication he was on the right track and to try to keep players thinking in that direction. Rush was in that same vein of rushing forward or lunging forward. Finally, on doing a Google definition search to see if there was a better way I could describe it, I saw that leg lunge exercises was the top result for using the word lunge so then I tried to switch gears and see if using leg exercise and bent (as the knees must be bent) would get someone on to the scent and it finally happened. Phew.
All that work and 1 point to Brandogg.

Correct. It helps when others can guess a few words before I think. Anyways, that's 10 big points to Hypotheliciously. He's now tied for the lead with Fatty the Hutt. Will this next word break the tie?

With another 10 point answer, Ceric jumps to the top of the leaderboard by his lonesome self.
And he'll probably stay there for the moment. Just got an interesting word that I think will take some time to solve. Time to test my clue-giving skills again.

now the game has been on hiatus for 2 days. 2 days Khush. see what you've done.
Short attention span. I'm changing the channel now.
Nooooooooo!
It's Fatty's fault!
Fine. If he can't be bothered to check in within this amount of time, I can't be bothered to wait for him. BlackNMild2k1 has the correct form of the word, crave, and he steals 10 points from Fatty just like that. Now do I have you attention again?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
And I would have gotten "lunge" on the third clue, too. Dag Nabbit.

Title: Re: Password
Post by: Khushrenada on November 17, 2014, 04:58:21 PM
Let's face it. If I was using these clues to break the rules and describe a proper noun, i.e. someone, then that person would be me. That should be pretty obvious at this point. Although this word is one of many that describes me, and so I am in effect describing myself, I am not breaking the rules and am not the answer which therefore means no one else is even close to being the answer.

While is still throwing me off... can't wait to see how that fits the word you are hinting at.

Why would you hide that message in an abbreviation?
In any case, both are incorrect. I'm beginning to wonder if anyone will get the word in time. Players are on the right track but I just can't seem to guide them to the end result.

Incorrect. Maybe talk to Lucariofan99. He never seems to have any trouble posting images.
The answer is beguiling. Beguiling.
I don't know how else I could have described it. Bewitching and beautiful were clues to get you on the "be" path. While and smile were two rhyming words. Since I can't say it rhymes with I hoped that maybe someone would figure out these two odd words rhymed and get to beguile which would rhyme with them. After that, the rest of the words are, I believe, synonyms for beguiling. A lot of the answers and guesses were that as well. It's just that no one ever came up with the one right word.
Now feel free to criticize my clues to shift the blame for your lack of vision.

We have come to the right answer. 3 points for Hypotheliciously. I have a feeling passive probably was a big help compared to some of the other clues in the middle. I kept racing my head for a one-word phrase to describe going with the flow or being no-disruptive or just accepting what one is told and I just couldn't think of the right word so I was using all these other ones today. Finally, it came to me in this last back and forth with BlackNMild2k1 with tame and domesticated. I think if I could have thought of that sooner it may have helped reach the answer faster than it actually took.

It was a more challenging word to describe and the other players took a long time to figure it out as well. When the words are a bit easier, it's more about speed in those cases and being around at the right time, I think.

The only connection I could find was about telephone scam done to take over a person's computer. There were a bunch of Youtube videos about trolling the scammers.
This one in particular is about how the scammers want him to download a program from a site called showmypc.com and ask him to click on the orange button on the site. The Window in Brandogg's clue could be Microsoft Windows or opening a new window on a PC. That's how I came up with the final answers I did.

Well, I've pretty much accomplished my goal with this thread. I was shocked a month ago when I saw that Lucario's thread had actually grown to 17 pages. How had this come to be? But what it took Lucariofan99 16 months to slowly build up to via poorly posted pictures (alliteration for the win!), I was able to come up with a winning thread that surpassed his thread in 5-1/2 weeks. In the words of Eggman from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, "That is why I am the best."
I suppose we could continue the game. Some players may still be hoping to get some points and top the leaderboards but like "Whose Line Is It Anyways?", the points don't matter. You should know that.
Still, since there seems to be some interest, I guess I'll keep feeding this thread until the next hot topic comes along. Or if someone else wants to try their hand out giving out clues, I have no problem with that. Why not pass the NEWZ thread at this point, right? In the meantime, here's another word.
