Title: So I'm an Uncle
Post by: Stratos on September 01, 2009, 02:58:05 PM
I am now an Uncle! Pretty exciting. I can't believe that my sister had a baby. It's a little weird, actually.
Ethan Cole was 8.5 pounds. And made his mother stay in labor for 24-hours straight. Yikes! He's typically a pretty laid back little guy except when he's hungry or needs a diaper change.
I also came up with a gamer joke related to babies!
Taking care of infants is just like playing a Point-&-Click Adventure game: Both require you to try random things until something works right.
At least that's what it feels like when he's crying. Is it a dirty diaper? Is he hungry? Does he need to be held? Keep trying things until he stops crying. LOL.

Sounds like a real life Tamagotchi. Family additions are great.

Sounds like a real life Tamagotchi. Family additions are great.
Especially when we are all crammed in the same house for the time being. There is my Mom and Dad, my Sister and Brother-in-law and Nephew and then my 11-year-old 'gaming-prodigy' sister and myself. Plus two very needy cats.
Every time I think of home the Full House theme song runs through my head.
Thankfully the babies crying at night doesn't disturb my sleep.

Because you don't sleep at night!
Anyway congratulations!

I do now. I struggle to push past 1AM or even midnight. I'm slipping back into a more 'normal' sleep schedule.
Ask Mop it up. Last night I was nodding off when we played Animal Crossing.

??? Am I missing a reference or something?
I have always referred to my little sister as my Gaming Prodigy sister because she could run circles around my friends in games like Mario Kart and Monkey Ball since she was 4. It wasn't sarcasm.

Great look there. It's like he's just waiting to travel the wold and hide amongst the locals (who just so happened to be crammed together like sardines) just waiting to be found.
**** dude, thats just rude. No one made fun of your nephew like that. Dick.

I hope you realized I altered your quote... (http://www.jtrue.com/cartoons/art/low/wheres_waldo.jpg). I edited the post to make it a little more obvious, i guess.

When I was young, there were no 'Where's Waldo' books. That joke flew right over my head. I looked at that and I couldn't understand why you were calling him a dick. I still don't know why but I see what's going on now. Man, give us old people a break.

I had no idea Waldo/Wally was relatively new, so i checked up on it and the first book was published in the US back in 1987.. a whopping year after i was born :P Guess growing up with them, i just assumed they were always around.

I made the same joke when we put it on him. Red and White Stripes = Waldo. Camo = He's ready to be fighting Predator, he was wearing baseball clothes the day before yesterday and then when we changed him we changed him into different colored baseball clothes. I was like "he switched baseball teams?" About putting the Hurt on you..he's only a few weeks old and he has pretty strong legs, he kicks real hard. His mom is 6'3.

Does that mean that during his potty training you'll go wiz next to him and show him how not to cross the streams?
You never cross the streams.
"There's something very important I forgot to tell you. Don't cross the streams… It would be bad… Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light." —Egon Spengler on crossing streams
And he is a scientist. He should know.

LOL, I completely missed the joke. I didn't even notice that you changed my text until I was about to post something else, then I figured it was a joke but was not getting it, so I was lost.

Don't forget Nintendo and Star Wars. Kids need to know about those things too.

Teaching kids about Nintendo? I can already see it now...
"Back in my day we didn't have any fancy-shmancy save features, we started from the beginning each and every time. We used a rectangle with two buttons as a controller and you never heard us complainin' about comfort. Games weren't stuffed full of extras like difficulty selectors, online modes, achievements, and all of that fluff; heck, we were lucky if a game had cheat codes! Our games were brutally difficult and WE LIKED IT!"

I was talking about the NES not the Super NES. The Super NES had an online accessory released in North America which was called the X-Band, and one of the games which could be played online with it was Doom. I'm not sure what else was available though.

You still ignored "Game B" modes in NES games.

Game B? Game & Watches had that too. Most games didn't though, certainly not enough to call it a standard of the time.

I also said games didn't have save features and yet some of them did. I don't hear any complaining about that...
I choose my battles stubbornly.
So how's your nephew Stratos?? I wish I had a spare security blanket to send ya, cuz I have an awesome one I plan on giving to my best friends 4month old daughter when i visit her for the first time later this month (she was born after he moved to NM). I got it at the Nintendo World Store, its a very soft material and has a picture of Baby Mario being carried by a stork embroidered on it. It's one of the finest peices of Nintendo Merch ever!

He and Mommy and Daddy are getting into a pretty steady routine now. His Dad has to go back to work on Tuesday I don't get to see him a whole lot because of work and girlfriend time, but he was giving me really odd looks today when I held him. He was all fussy and hungry and my sister needed to get ready to feed him so I held him for a bit and he just calmed down and gave me the strangest look. Like he had no clue what to think of me. Cute little bugger.
I now have to go to the Nintendo Store to get a blanket like that one for when/if I ever have a kid. Always wanted to go visit it anyway.

Well, if you want to talk about "on-line" and "back in the day", you need to go back to... the early 80's. The Intellivision had a piece of hardware, called the PlayCable (http://www.intvfunhouse.com/hardware/playcable/). By the strictest definition of the word, this wasn't "on-line". The equipment connected to your cable and when you selected the game you wanted, the device would simply wait until that game was broadcast, then download it. Basically, every game on the system was just broadcast in a cycle.
Now, the Atari 2600 (or VCS) had a thing called GameLine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameLine). I know less about it, but I do know that it actually connected to your phone line and would dial into a network to download games.

I was on the forums main page, saw the topic title and a post from unclebob and thought he made a thread about becoming an uncle. I came in here to simply reply "we know".
