Title: First Guitar Hero 5 details. BEASTLY first tracks.

Yes, another one but this one sounds worth it.

GHWT DLC works with GH5.

Drop in-Drop out stuff sounds really awesome.

Confirmed Songs
The Rolling Stones – "Sympathy for the Devil"
Bob Dylan – "All Along The Watchtower"
The White Stripes – "Blue Orchid"
Santana – "No One To Depend On (LIVE)"
Vampire Weekend – "A-Punk"
Tom Petty - "Runnin Down a Dream"
Johnny Cash – "Ring of Fire"
Kings of Leon – "Sex on Fire"

I'm not a music buff, and the only songs on that list I have even heard of are "Ring of Fire" and "Running Down a Dream".

I hope that this one bucks the trend of going up in price. Almost every Guitar Hero and Rock Band game has been more expensive than the previous one.

So when do they announce some good tracks?

How can you do a full band version of White Stripes? That band lacks a bassist.

You've never heard of "Sympathy for the Devil" or "All Along the Watchtower"? There's a difference between not being a "music buff" and simply living under a rock.

Some good stuff there, though why the Bob Dylan "Watchtower" instead of the Jimi Hendrix version? Also, why can't these all be Rock Band DLC instead? My gaming budget is going to be a lot more limited in the fall, I don't want to have to buy this.

I rarely ever listen to the radio (pretty much the only time I do is the 15 minute car ride to and from school) and I don't watch music channels. So my music knowledge is pretty much limited to what I hear in TV shows/movies I watch and video games I play.

Bob Dylan wrote the song, that's why.

Bob Dylan wrote the song, that's why.

I know that, and it's not that I don't like Dylan's version, I do, but doesn't Hendrix's seem more like a Guitar Hero song?

EDIT-- Yeah, I went back and listened to both versions, the Hendrix version would definitely be more interesting to play in Guitar Hero on both guitar and drums. Unless Neversoft's big E3 reveal is that they're adding the harmonica as a playable instrument (which I would be fully in favor of as I love the harmonica).

Oh and Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" was confirmed via USA Today article.  The variety already seen is making me happy.

Also it's better. But the Battlestar Galactica version is the best one.

I would totally buy Guitar Hero: Stevie Wonder.  For serious.  Need a keyboard, though.

Is anyone else nervous that Wii owners will be screwed out of being able to import the songs from World Tour to avoid disc swapping?  I hope not...

Considering that Rock Band Country Track Pack will only let PS3 and Xbox 360 owners import their songs, I doubt Guitar Hero 5 will do it. Activision could land a major blow against MTV Games if they did allow it though. It might convince Wii owners to get Guitar Hero rather than Rock Band.

This is very true, though I don't know how well it would translate to Guitar Hero.

The article only mentions downloaded tracks, not disc-based ones. I see no reason why DLC can't be supported in whatever game is released. Activision would be smart to allow importing of older discs though, as World Tour and GH: Metallica's tracks would definitely add some weight to whatever comes along with GH5.

this is a really bad list in my opinion.  the face to face song is one of there worst.  why a live nirvana song.... why? not sure about the sonic youth song. the bronx song is terrible.  rammstein, well thats just garbage... and i really really really hate bon jovi.  the rest of the list is ok, but this has to be the most dissapointing guitar hero list ever.

This is odd because.. well, i have a diverse taste in music, but hardly any of these tracks appeal to me. Even though there's artists on there i like, i can't say the same for the selected song.

The only two songs i can see myself having a lot of fun to are "So Lonely" by the Police, even though its a bit slow paced, and "American Girl" by Tom Petty. The Police track will just be fun to shout "I feel so alone" in a high pitch squeal, immitating Sting, at the end of the track lol.. that part always makes me laugh, i can't help it!

I don't think I could disagree more, I think this is shaping up to be one of if not the best song lists ever. I might even call it the best right now if they switched the Dylan Watchtower to the Hendrix version (yes I'm still mad about that).

Well i'm happy you're excited for it :p Between playing the **** outta GH:WT and RB2 back to back, i'm burnt out on these games for awhile so i'm actually glad that this set list is looking a little 'meh' to me :)

I hate when I band I like puts a song on one of these games, because it makes me want one of these horrible games.

Then I remember I can just play them on my real guitar and my hate subsides.

bon jovi is probably the worst thing that ever happed to the human race... ever.  he is worse than slavory, worse than killing in the name of god, worse than nick cage even.  i cant prove it but im pretty sure that his music is the cause of cancer.

Me too man, but trolls will be trolls ;) Even the one or two friends i'm still in touch with that play an instrument enjoy getting a kick outta these games, probably because they can only dream of playing a song like Hot For Teacher on a real guitar :P

Speaking of guitars, i gotta get a new amp and quick! My guitars getting dusty.

My acoustic guitar has been missing its E string for years because:

A. It took me awhile to find nylon strings for the damn thing
B. I never bothered learning how to restring it, because I'm used to my electrics having a ball/bullet-end string.

This is, by far, the worst track list of any GH/RB game so far. This should be optional DLC. I think that's their plan though - make this bullshit the core game, so you have to buy it, then they'll release the "real" track list as DLC, costing you more in the end. Also, nylon strings are pretty easy to replace. You basically pull the string (about 2 inches or so) through from neck-side to body-side, then loop it around itself on the neck-side, and put the slack though the body-side and pull the other end taut. The tension from tuning the guitar will keep it from coming loose.

that is the thing.  some of these songs i have no chance of ever being good enough to play.  plus if you dont have the right set up its really hard to make some of these songs sound good any way.  unfortunately i don't have 3g's to plop down on amps and pedals right now.

i really hate the attitude that these games are bad for music.

I can agree with this in that it is no worse for music than the radio, MTV, VH1, and other avenues for popular music.

Every video game is a form of escapism, in which you pretend to do something you aren't necessarily able to do in real life.

I really can't stand this musician elitism against Guitar Hero and Rock Band, ESPECIALLY when it's from otherwise very active gamers.

Which isn't me.

I have played these games, and they're average at best. In fact I had more fun playing them with just a standard controller, because the note progression makes a little more sense that way.

I hear ya man. I'm looking into buying a new guitar amp but don't really wanna spend the money on it because i know i don't have the kind of free time anymore to make good use of it. If i wanted to jam for a few mins a day i'd just bust out my acoustic. If i get an amp i'd want something decent, not another practice amp like the one i've held on to for so many years before dying, but it'd end up being there for show.

On top of that i've been meaning to buy another bass after selling off my only one YEARS ago.. but thats more money down the drain if i don't put it to use. In the meantime i'll just make cool looking custom guitars in GH:WT and pretend its part of my collection haha.

i was wondering after reading how famous musicians have come out against this game and so many on so many boards have i got to thinking.

after hitman came out were there statements by assasin groups deamonizing the games?
and what about car jackers with grand theft auto?
and how bout the plumbers union?

nope just with music games.
