Title: the Locked thread comment box
Post by: ThePerm on January 03, 2009, 11:21:08 PM
Every once in a while a thread gets locked, and its hilarious. Sometimes i think we all want to make a comment on a thread only to find out its locked.

I wanted to make a comment on the Coucil thread

It just sounded so bad, like super n00b. Like i was wondering was that somebody's joke account.

Feel free to leave comments, on whichever thread sucked enough to get locked.

You could atleast link to the thread with a quote to what your are responding to.
Or is that too much work. cause after typing that out, it sounds like too much work.

Yeah, starting a thread about a deleted thread fails without screen caps.

I lock threads when I think people need to see why they are locked.  I erase threads when they are useless spammers cluttering things up. =P

Locked threads are different from deleted threads.

I find this topic perfect if I wanted to respond to Rat's suicide post (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=26243.0).

well it could be worse, they're selling the presidents portraits for $10 a pop at the sports card shop. The reasoning. If he gets shot they'll be worth more. Now thats fucked up. You know whats more fucked up I was watching a tv show on serial killers. This one kid named Timmy was kidnapped and his parents sent a letter to the newspaper, that was plea for the kidnapper to give up the kid. They said he was a good boy and his favorite food was kfc..he had a basketball game to go to that night and if he was home today he would get a nice big meal of kfc. They found his body in a ditch the next day, he was still warm so they tried to resuscitate him to no avail. Medical examiners who did an autopsy on the kid found out that his last meal before he died was KFC. The killer still hasn't been caught in the 30 years since it happened.  That's bounds more sick humor than the above joke and that is something that actually happened.

every damn thread i find interesting gets locked. Anyways, i find it highly offensive that people are banned for a service for being who they are. My friend who used to post on here as Kamek_X left this place because he found a website called gaymer experimentation(er whatever). As it turns out people of a similar demographic have similar taste in games. He ended up having a way better experience with AC Wild World then I did because he connected with more people. There's a difference between using the word gay to offend and using it as a description of ones self.

Anyways, i find it highly offensive that people are banned for a service for being who they are.
While I agree that it is despicable to ban people from a service just for that, I can't help but wonder what this person's motivation was for stating that she's gay. This is a gaming service, what does it matter what your sexual orientation is? There are plenty of other non-controversial ways to find gamers with similar tastes, so there's no need to be listing oneself as a lesbian. Because of this, it makes me believe she did it just to make a statement; whenever you do that, you're asking for trouble.
Title: Re: the Locked thread comment box
Post by: Dasmos on March 04, 2009, 12:06:52 AM
So what if she said she was gay? How is banning someone for that any more acceptable than banning someone for being gay? Sure she didn't need to state she was gay, but how is there any harm in doing so? Any negative comments or insults that she received because of it is soley rested on her shoulders, but I'm sure she understands that.

There is no difference in banning someone for being gay than there is for stating that they're gay. It's the same thing. It's shameful and bigoted.

on the other hand, this guy makes a good point on the subject. It almost reverses my position on the subject, but on the other hand if you want to seem like a shallow self promoting douche bag you should have that right too. Do Not Judge Lest Ye Be Judged right? The rule is stupid because it lets a hateful minority have their way. But, There are terms you sign on to before agreeing, if you fail to read the fine print it is Microsoft discretion to do whatever they want. She needs to give her everlasting gobstopper back and maybe they'll change their mind.

That guy doesn't really have a valid point. Sure she didn't need to label herself to the XBL community as gay, but I can't see the probelm in doing so. He's trying to label her as someone who validates themselves as gay and nothing else, ehich may or or may not be the case. Besides even if she was it's her prerogative and I can't see any harm in doing so as long as she realises what her actions may lead to (e.g. XBL fags insulting her).

Banning her account is not the right way to go about it, even if it is within Microsofts "rights" to do so.

Well there's really no way of knowing her intent. It's just a muddled up situation. The way they went about it was I think wrong. There are more courteous ways of doing things, ways that won't anger parts of the population. I wish i knew Microsoft's intent because that's the part that matters.

I don't remember if it was UncleBob or vudu that said he wasn't going to mod anything unless someone complained, but I think that should be standard operating procedure for the Funhouse. Mods should only take action here if someone reports it, and otherwise just let it be and let us police ourselves.

I don't remember if it was UncleBob or vudu that said he wasn't going to mod anything unless someone complained, but I think that should be standard operating procedure for the Funhouse. Mods should only take action here if someone reports it, and otherwise just let it be and let us police ourselves.

I don't recall if I said that, but it's pretty much my policy.  I only mod the Funhouse if someone complains or if it's hilarious.

you wanna be kept outta the filth? don't go crying when you get left out of discussions too. if people don't think you're mature enough to take a joke then why should anyone think you're mature enough to take part in serious discussions as well?
I wasn't aware it took maturity to "take" a lame omg-they-iz-girlz sex joke. Maybe someone else has to do the growing up.

it takes maturity take know the difference between a comment in a JOKE thread and an actual insult.

you're right thow, someone else has some growing up to do, too bad its not me in this case since I know the difference and don't let anything said to or about me by some anonymous internet poster get to me.

I'm dropping this now, and its because it shouldn't of ever been that serious to begin with (it's the funhouse after all), and i suggest you do too and just chill. This whole thing has been a joke one way or another.
Title: Re: the Locked thread comment box
Post by: that Baby guy on November 21, 2009, 02:08:44 PM
I think it takes maturity to respect that the rules are the rules, and regardless of the point of the thread, any discussion of sexual preference is against them.

The simplicity in that rule precludes any other matter if it being a joke or not, or how it should be taken, or anything like that.  It's that simple.  Just like political discussion is against the rules, so even jokes about politicians or politics that have no bearing on opinion isn't allowed.  This really is black and white.  That's why I marked the thread.

You didn't read the fine print when you first entered the Funhouse?

something about participation makes you fair game.
blah blah blah
Can't take the heat get out the kitchen

But whatever, it was thread for making humorous porn names and someone played off your screen name and the fact that you are a female. The same way that everyone else's name got used and most of us used our own names to make humorous titles out of. We did way worse on ourselves than the one or two joke names made using yours.

If you just wanna discuss gaming then goto the gaming part of the forum and let that be that. This part of the forum is for joking around about whatever the hell we want to joke around about(as long as it isn't about Politics.... or religion ;) ). If you don't want to be included in that then don't include yourself in it. No one is forcing you into the funhouse.

No matter who you are or what you do in life, people are gonna talk about you. If you don't like it, then do your best to not know about it. It's not like someone is talking your personal business or even referring to you by your real name.
They made a joke, not a personal attack, so try not to get all worked up over it.

The staff is generally unhappy with the tone of discussion brought forth by those threads?
wants to stop a trend before it gets too out of control?

Other than that, I saw nothing wrong with it.

What I would like to see is someone make a thread with boxarts for what each developer released on the Wii vs PS3 vs 360 vs DS vs PSP vs GC vs PS2 vs Xbox.

If the thread veered off into actually discussing Obama policies or politics, then certainly it should be closed, but a thread pointing out an Obama look-alike is not any more inherently political than, say, talking about a movie Reagan was in..

But just about anyone that really wants a Club Card can get one and it's not a federally enforced crime in California. Big Gov'ment has bigger, more pressing issues to deal with & they are actually voting to make it legal on Thursday I think.

I known plenty of people caught with various amounts of Gawds Green (from the) Earth and the police don't particularly care, they mostly just confiscate (for personal use is my guess).

But there are clubs everywhere and you can legally grow, sell and use if properly licensed with little to no interference from local authority.

That is just one of many reasons why my state is better than yours. :)

Wait for the second post to start it.  And preferably leave it in someone else's thread other than your own.

Just like the friend that always poops at your place? (Yes, I have had that problem with people in the past...)

Ever go to an open house (like as in a realtor trying to sell a house) and taken an upper decker?

I just brought some candles and a bottle of Champagne hoping to lighten the mood, but it seems one of the mods has changed the locks.

You win this time Kevin Butler... but we will always have this

I had my first locked thread not too long ago. It was in the funhouse.

That last post makes it sound like insanolord's a mod.

Goodbye old thread! You were birthed by poster Ceric and lasted a whopping 130 pages in 4.5 years. Brought down by barbarian anarchists. Rest in pieces

"Kevin Butler" nothing.  It was Morari again making an ass of himself by posting personal insults, yanking the thread off-topic with his anti-government/anti-corporation ramblings, and frankly it looked like if the mods hadn't locked that thread that he was pretty close to posting death wishes again.  Frankly, I've had my fill of that guy.  He's like if Kytim were continually filled with anger and had no self-control.  Given his comments in that thread, I don't know why he's here or why he's been allowed to remain a poster here but this nonsense of his has to stop and he's been warned many times now to knock it off.  I wouldn't have a problem with him if he could manage to remain civil, but that's just somehow beyond him.

I applaud you brood. Morari went way too far in that thread (I will admit that I could have just walked away rather than defend my opinion, but I didn't insult him, his nationality, etc.) I forgot that he got in trouble for making an actual death threat to someone else.

I was trying to save the thread, to get it back on track. Somebody needed to step in and say that, but I was too late. On the bright side, according to Funhouse rules, that means I won the thread.

Hey, it's posters like you that almost save forum threads.  Here, have a bag of money (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AWsZZ_nu9Q).   ;)

There was more than one person throwing around insults/attacks in that thread.  I have no problems dishing out sweet moderator justice, if so desired, to all involved in the flaming.  If you really want to continue the bickering, take it to PM or somewhere else.
