Title: Cross-System Play Coming To Minecraft On Consoles

A Nintendo-related announcement during the Xbox conference.

Minecraft on consoles is about to become even more open.

During the Microsoft E3 press conference, the company announced an update to Minecraft this summer that would enable cross-platform play between consoles, including the Switch version. Player-created servers will also be a part of the update.

No details were given on how Nintendo-exclusive content, such as the Super Mario pack, would be handled.

UPDATE: Cross-compatible versions will be between the PC (Windows 10 store), Switch, Xbox One versions and mobile editions of the game. At this time, it has not been confirmed for PlayStation consoles, and the Wii U version appears to not be supported.

Wow! They actually pulled it off!


So it is decided. I need to create a console Minecraft server. I have the Wii U + game and a Switch. I can get the game on Switch and then leave the Wii U title running 24/7 for others to join as they please. Could be really fun to finally get something like this working.

I don't think this is correct. It appears to just be for the PC, XBONE, and Switch versions. Wii U, PS4, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions are not included.

Pretty cool to have some cross-platform multiplayer, even it's a bit limited on which platforms.

Guys, they are also bringing servers (Minecraft Realms) and infinite worlds! I think I was just convinced to buy the Switch version in spite of owning the Wii U version.


So we will have to setup an NWR server or something.

I've been really into Minecraft on Switch lately, it's brought me back to the game after years away, so seeing it get even better is great news.
