A much-needed Saturday release for one of Japan's biggest franchises

The long-awaited traditional RPG take on Monster Hunter will be hitting Japan this October.

Monster Hunter Stories will release in Japan on October 8, and will also have amiibo support that unlocks new monsters in the game. The designs in the first wave, launching day-and-date with the game, are male and female hunters on a One-Eyed Rathalos, as well as a Nabiru (Felyne) amiibo. The hunter/Rathalos amiibo will be 1800 yen while the Felyne will be 1200 yen, and a second wave is expected this winter.

As of this time, no release date has been announced outside Japan, as Monster Hunter Generations is releasing on July 15.

The US is the biggest amiibo market so now I feel more comfortable about this game actually coming to the west.

I'm gonna assume we can expect a 3-pack when this hits the US.  Maybe a game bundle?

Capcom released a new trailer for Monster Hunter Stories today too and it looks amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-_OOVwgL7c

This is quickly becoming one my most anticipated games.

Those are some really nice looking amiibo. Nabiru kinda weirds me out though.

The game looks fun!

I am interested in the game, but I dont really like turn based combat, so I probably wont buy it.
I do like the felyne amiibo though.

Super stoked that this has amiibo and most likely will be coming to the West some time.

I'm going to guess we will get it February/March of next year.

I know I'm super excited about this game! Not sure if I really care about the amiibo either way, but I'll probably be getting this day one. I enjoyed what I got to play last year at TGS.

Sure thing, Phil!

Sweet! I know none of the current Japan correspondents are overly fond of JRPGs, at least from what I've heard on the Famicast, but I'd love to see impressions or a full review on this if you do end up getting it.

I think I'm the only one on the show now who really enjoys them. Occasionally at least. Saris was into Bravely Default, though...

...At any rate, the visuals for this game are cool and I just like the idea of something being set in the Monster Hunter world that isn't standard Monster Hunter.

I played the MH3 demo a while back and hated it. So I might give the RPG version a chance.
