Nintendo released their earnings report for the 12 months ended March 31 overnight, and the company is back on the happy side of the profit line.

Although the company saw a small loss in the January - March quarter (6.8 billion yen operating loss, 17.6bn yen net loss), it wasn't enough to put them in loss territory for the year. Operating income - the income from actual sales of products - totaled 24.77bn yen, and a net income inclusive of currency fluctuations of 41.843bn yen. At current market rates, that translates to a operating income for the year of approximately US$208 million and a net income of US$351 million. This is the first net profit for Nintendo since the 2011 fiscal year.

Sales of hardware and Wii U software were just below the company's guidance, but digital sales were extremely high and the addition of Amiibo appears to have had a noticeable impact on the bottom line. Nintendo's cash and equivalents is also up to $768m US at current rates (915.293bn yen).

I kind of want to know sales numbers for Xenoblade 3D...then again maybe I don't want that kind of bad news. I LOVE that game, but I doubt many people have it.

I suspect Codename STEAM not even being mentioned in their sales roundup probably means the game was a colossal flop.

Back in black.  So we can assume they'll now lazily return to their status quo, make no improvements and learn no lessons because dumb toys saved their butts?  I don't want Nintendo to go out of business but I think in order for them to be inspired to get their heads out of their asses they need to feel seriously threatened.  I was hoping it would take some serious improvement to bounce back.  They won't change otherwise.

Nintendo only reveals the games that sold over a million during these reports.  I doubt they were expecting it to sell over a million copies in less then a month.
