Title: Episode 153: In Memory of Michael Jackson
Post by: StrikerObi on October 06, 2014, 04:00:00 AM

We answer your listener mail questions and then jam out to some sweet underwater music on this week's episode.

I hope you're able to tear yourself away from Smash Bros to listen to this week's episode of Connectivity, because it's a doozy. We have three awesome segments for you this week. First up, Alex and Addison are joined by special guest, Chris "CJ" Johnston of the Player One Podcast, for a rundown of the latest listener mail. Following that, Mike, Scott, and Zach are back with a run down your favorite music from underwater levels plus a few of their own. Finally, Donald and Tyler talk about Danganronpa 2.

Now that we've done a listener mail segment, the mailbag is looking a bit empty. Please fill it up by submitting your questions and comments to us here. Also, please rate and review the show on iTunes.

Rayman Origins Underwater level music
I always shake my head when people call NSMB "****" for "baa" and yet in the same breath they praise Origins, despite it's soundtrack having even more vocal tracks with words like "pam-pam-pam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_m-50qXcLc)" and "lu-lu, lu-lu-lu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7TRB8gka-4)".

I think it's debatable that Mario 3 is a better designed game than Mario World, but I definitely think it's inarguable that Mario World's world map is 10x more interesting.  In fact, I'm not sure the world map of Mario World has ever been equaled by a platformer.

Nope. I get to complain about it. The "baa baa" isn't a vocal thing, it's instrumental. And it's so out of place that it calls attention to itself in NSMB games. The weird underwater tracks in the recent Rayman games are perfectly "normal" for those two games and they're the focus of the song, not a random note thrown in.

It calls attention because it's directly implanted into the gameplay.

There is nothing random about these dreaded baa-s, they're part of the melody.

If anything it's Rayman's "lu-lu" are more random because they do nothing.

RE:  The Mission

Holy crap!   I don't know what's worse, that 2 out of 3 of you haven't seen the Mission or that Robert De Niro was referred to as "they guy from Meet The Parents."  Goodfellas?  The Godfather Part 2?   Casino?   Raging Bull?   Taxi Driver?  If he was dead, Robert De Niro would be turning in his grave.

Zach can't be that much younger than me, can he?

And please, for the love of all that is sacred, see The Mission.  Everyone see it.  It is amazing, stirring, beautiful.   The music is by Ennio Moricone, and yes it is amazing.  When I was in college, everyone had the CD (that's a compact disc to all the young 'uns).

So YOU were that guy at the Haunted Mansion who put up his hand when the Ghost Host said "We have 999 Happy Haunts here, but there's room for a thousand! Any volunteers?!" :P
