Title: Do you regret buying a Wii U?

Now that the Wii U is essentially failing in all aspects do you regret getting one?

No. I like it a lot. This year some really awesome games are coming out. Sure, I wish it was doing better, but I've never felt a but of buyer's remorse except when I bought a Pro Controller and a few days later, someone traded a never used Pro Controller to my friend's store. I could have saved $5.

Out of the things I regret in life, which is a pretty good chunk, buying the Wii U isn't one of them. In fact I think I can say that I regret my early purchase of the 3DS and PS4 more at the current time.

Nope. I love the Gamepad. I've got 8 unplayed games piled up for it and at least 5 other released games that I want to try. Then there are the unreleased games on the slate for this year.
All I've played this month has been Mario Galaxy on the gamepad whilst my family used the TV. So the Gamepad has opened up the Wii back catalog to me properly for the first time.
This is a great console that I am really enjoying.

Why would I? For a life-long Nintendo fan like myself who loved the Wii cycle this feels like a true next Gen. It is a great piece of hardware other than a bit of a loading issue on the pad sometimes but they have made progress in fixing it.
I'm also loving the 3rd party support. Sure it is not AS good as the others but it seems better than the Wii so far.
As Nintendo really gets in gear I think this year and especially next year will be fantastic. I have enjoyed every Nintendo generation and fully expect to enjoy this one just as much if not more so.
Even if they stopped making games today there are enough quality titles out to at least get my basic moneys worth from the system.
I may be in the minority, and I always do admit there is PLENTY of room to grow and improve- as I always hope they do- but I know I will always get enjoyment out of their systems.

No, but I never expected the Wii U to be my only console. I knew going in that it would be a supplement to either a PS4 or XBO, just like last generation. Now I'll be able to play everyone's games. I win.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii U and I think off-TV play is the coolest thing Nintendo has ever done... But I do wish 3rd-party publishers would at least try to make something decent for the console and give Nintendo a chance. It's great that we got Batman and Assassin's Creed games, but two major franchises isn't enough to compete with the other systems.
The GamePad has been sorely underutilized. Inventory management and a persistent map is great, but the GamePad can offer much more to games. It seems even Nintendo doesn't know what to do with it.
Nintendo needs to be more ambitious with their game development. Stop sitting on games for half a year and then suddenly reveal them to no hype. Put Wii and GameCube games on the Virtual Console, and bring back those Sega consoles as well (including Dreamcast and Saturn). Give us more HD remakes of GameCube and Wii games (Metroid Prime Trilogy and Luigi's Mansion?). They need to go all out with their mobile apps; put Miiverse, eShop, Mii Maker, etc. on mobile devices to spread the word about your products.
/end rant

Honestly, despite not really playing anything on it yet, I don't regret purchasing it except for the fact that if I had waited a couple more months, I'd have been able to get it with NSMBWU packed in instead of NintendoLand and at the same low cost I had bought it for. Oh wellz.

No. I don't regret it at all.
I've really enjoyed what I've played of Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends and I've got 5 other retail games that I've yet to really dig into. Plus VC is better than the Wii (and Earthbound!) and other small games like Little Inferno were really fun.
Also, the future, when I get to play whatever comes out down the road.

Regret? Wholeheartedly. I should have waited until Smash Bros. And X released. I got swept up in pre-release hype. Which I should have learned when I bought the 3DS at launch but there I was, in line for the Wii U.
Never doing that again.

Well I'm glad I waited because I got the Mario bundle, which is a really good value. Hopefully Nintendo also has bundles with Mario Kart 8 and/or Smash Bros. That would definitely sell more consoles.

Absolutely not! I would like some improvements in key areas but this system is not a failure, not yet. Overall the last 6months have been pretty solid. The next 6 months is key. Mario Kart 8 will move some units for sure.

No, in fact i really like the Wii U and the content Nintendo has published so far. I mean, i don't know why everybody decided to gang up on the system specs instead of making fucking games. Its really sad the state of the industry, its becoming more a more corrupted and based off speculation instead of good healthy competition. But Microsoft and Sony with their baseless and mindless power competition have **** it all up. I mean people are already making comparison on what version of tomb raider looks better, its so stupid its beyond me. The fact is that, as of now Wii U has the better lineup and still gets bashed for not having enough games. But that is not important, what is important is to have all media sites including non video game related websites talk **** about Nintendo, when both Microsoft and Sony have gone through restructuring due to how fucked up this companies were performing, including Sony's junk status. Its fucking ridiculous, I know Nintendo is going through some tough times but they have enough money and credibility to get back up to speed, the situation is not as dire as others sharks want to make it seem as to make people believe that its over for Nintendo and to jump ship to the truly "NEXT-GEN" system for whatever that term might mean.

Hmm...to be honest, I'm not sure. On the one hand, I never turn the damn thing on, and it has yet to get a game that makes me want to turn it on. On the other, I do have games I could be playing on the thing (Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, more Mario 3D World). I just have games on all my other platforms I'd rather be playing instead. I suppose at some point I'll regret sinking that money into the Wii U given how relatively worthless it's been, but right now? I don't think so. We'll see how things look in a year or two when Nintendo announces the Wii U's successor.

Amen! The industry is what it is today because two giant non-gaming tech companies dipped their dicks into the pool and fouled the water, while accomplishing jack squat.
I don't regret my WiiU purchase, but then again I bought the basic set for $240 during the Target sale. So long as there are 2-3 more games of 3D World's caliber the console will have justified itself. But at this rate that might be about all it does.

Nah, but I do regret getting it close to release and buying many games at full price, only to see them go down to budget levels so quickly.
I have 20 retail games and I have enjoyed all of them. I have played the system for hundreds of hours, and if I didn't own one, I would have missed out on Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, LEGO City Undercover (my favorite LEGO game yet by far), Pikmin 3, etc.
I will say that I will not be a launch buyer for Nintendo's next products, though. Strike one was 3DS. Strike two was Wii U. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, and all that.

I'm relatively happy with my Wii U.
I wish the wireless was better so that I didn't need to get a new wireless router. But since replacing my router (that worked fine with every other device we owned) that problem seems to be fixed.
I regret buying a basic model at $200 with the thought: "That's a great deal. Surely they won't be available cheaper than that in the near future." Not that I regret owning the console, but better deals have come around and I haven't seriously played any Wii U games yet.
Even if I still don't feel comfortable recommending Wii U to friends or family, I don't feel any regret buying one for myself. As long as another half dozen games that I want come out for the console, the purchase will be justified in my mind.

Games like Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: Wind Waker HD, and even New Super Mario Bros. U make the system worth it to me. The multiplatform games that the system did get (Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag) are just icing on the cake. As long as companies like Ubisoft, WB Games, and Activision continue to support the Wii U then I'll be happy.
I remember when the N64 had practically no 3rd-party support, and it was in a worse situation than the Wii U. But in hindsight everyone looks back on the N64 fondly for the games it did have. I remember when Nintendo even had to suspend production of the GameCube for a few months because they had so much stock that was left unsold. Those were dark times. Sure the GameCube got plenty of multiplatform games, but because of the console's terrible sales publishers quickly abandoned it.
Nintendo has come a long way since then. They finally embraced online with Nintendo Network and Miiverse. They're taking digital downloads seriously with tons of quality eShop games and releasing all their retail games on the eShop. The Wii U is a very good console, but the industry is so focused on hardware power (again) that developers don't even consider the system to be in the same league as its rivals. Yet they still make Xbox 360 and PS3 games, systems which are considerably less powerful than the Wii U.
This whole industry needs to change. Games should be about fun, not hardware specs.

Yet, gameinformer has the audacity to put the Nintendo Network on their top disappointments of 2013, i mean they complained when there was none, and now that there is, they still complaint with baseless accusations such as the on-line system not having a universal friend list when in fact it does. Wait i got, they forgot how shitty xbox live was when it launched, hypocrites; exactly why i canceled my subscription.

I'm with Weetrick--I got an decent deal on the WII U and about 3 *free games* for only $180 so far. For the most part I'm still playing more on my primary systems (360/ps3) but I do like Nintendo's exclusives.
At long as the system doesn't get discontinued then 2 or 3 exclusive/year is what I was expecting to play when I bought the system.
What I am disappointed with is the lack of good use of the gamepad. It's a big part of the system yet most developers don't have clue on how to use it :(.

I don't regret purchasing my Wii U at all. I've already gotten plenty of use out of the system. Games like Mario 3D world. Nintendo Land, Windwaker HD, Lego City, Wii Party U and Game and Wario not to mention the ones I have yet to play on my shelf, make me critical of the no games comments I find on virtually every game website. The gamepad is the most next-gen feature I have seen from any of the systems. Being able to change my inventory without pausing, having a map always at the ready, and Asymetric Gameplay feel like true innovations. Miiverse is really cool and I can't wait to see what features arise as it matures, much like the stamps in 3D world. Also I find it frustrating that no one in the gaming press seems to mention backwards compatablilty. I understand it's not why you buy a new console, but its the only one of the big three that has it, and being able to play all of your old wii games in a higher fidelity is a huge boon to the system. I've never been disapointed by a Nintendo console, and from what I've seen the Wii U will not break that trend. :D

I split the cost of a Wii U with my brother when the Wind Waker Bundle came out. The price I paid for it was great and I have plenty to play on it (Zelda, Super Mario Wii U, Monster Hunter Tri,) and I am going to be picking up Donkey Kong Tropic Freeze when that comes out. I also saw at work that Wounderful 101 dropped in price to 29.99. I am going to have to pick that one up soon.

It was either that or pay $360 for a copy of Earthbound on the grey market, so...
I don't regret the purchase at all. I've become more of a handheld gamer in the last two years so a system that lets me play console games in a fashion I prefer is damn well worth it.

Certainly not an unbiased audience.
In my case, I've got well over a hundred Wii games so backwards compatibility is a huge value proposition right off the bat. I skipped out on early adoption and instead bought the system at clearance pricing ($200) when they weren't moving from stores. Wii U is certainly underperforming compared to my hopes... but isn't that far off my actual expectations of first party software and (hopefully) a few extras. When looking at the long game, I still expect Wii U to be a fine investment.
As long as Nintendo doesn't kill the release of X in the west, it's hard for me to claim regret.

Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3 and NSMBU are among my favorite games ever, and Off-TV play is huge for me. My only real regret with the system is buying a bunch of physical retail games early on not realizing that most everything would be on the eShop day one.

This isn't even about Nintendo for me. New hardware is an investment and I don't buy anything unless I can justify it which means it needs something I want immediately and a decent amount of known future releases to look forward to. That just happens to be easier on Nintendo platforms because we all know the usual suspects will show up.
Still, it's important for me to not buy on a whim. I didn't buy 3DS until I felt it was appropriate. A price drop, 20 free games, and Ocarina of Time 3D fit the bill. I could have stood to hold off on Wii U though I would have folded around May of last year when Resident Evil: Revelaitons came out, even though I had it on 3DS. At that point, nothing would have been cheaper. I got New Super Mario Bros. U and ZombiU on sale on launch day. All things considered, it's hard to feel any pangs of regret. I would have had to wait nearly a year for a price drop and that's just about the only thing that would have changed my mind.

Unabashedly so. If not then, I probably would have bought a 3DS by the end of 2011 once Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D World were released. Getting 20 free games was a bonus.

I did the same thing for 3DS. The ambassador games combined with a price cut were enough to make me jump in early. It still took a long time for the system to get enough "must play" software to justify owning though - and not until Resident Evil Revelations that I felt there was any retail 3DS games I needed to own.

No regrets, other than the possible savings I could have had by waiting. I think it's a fine console for gamers, especially Nintendo fans. I've pumped in almost 500 hours of Monster Hunter, played plenty of Mario, Nintendo Land, Pikmin (now picking up co-op too) and even indie stuff like Spin the Bottle. I've had a few disappointing titles (W101 and Sonic:LW just didn't appeal to me in the end. I know, burn me now.), but overall I'm happy with what's on the system right now.
Future prospects look good this year too, although I'm not entirely happy with how they've spaced the schedule. The wait between DKC:TF and Mario Kart 8 is such a void and Nintendo hasn't been great at filling those gaps in the past using Virtual Console, or eShop releases as they should be. I would guess E3 / Nintendo Directs will have at least a handful of new Wii U games being announced, on top of what we know about, looks fine for me this year. I'm not sure anything will really push the console though. Mario Kart and Smash will see slight bumps, but I'm not confident that Nintendo can maintain momentum with the titles, even though Iwata has stated it will be their goal.

I did the same. no shame.
They announced the Ambassador program, and a price drop, I went and picked one up on the last possible day to take advantage. I got my lowered price and my ambassador games. had my cake and ate it too.
I was initially holding out for a 3DS XL, as the 3DS is a little small for my hands, but the things has been collecting dust ever since E3 2012, so it doesn't even matter anymore.

Definitely not. I got mine at Target when they had the 20% off coupon right after Black Friday which made it enough of a deal for me. I've only really played New Super Mario Wii U and Ducktales Remastered so far but I've had a blast with both. Mario started out a little slow but after the first few levels the game really picked up and the challenges and boost mode add a lot to the game. I was disappointed by the first New Super Mario Bros game, the Wii version was better but still not great, but this feels like a Mario game should in my opinion. Ducktales is a blast even though I'm not very good at it, I've had to replay the levels an insane amount of times but it's fun to play, the cutscenes are funny (at least the first couple times), and the random sayings every time Scrooge finds a jewel are entertaining. Beyond that, my wife is really liking Wii Fit U, I've got Mass Effect 3 and Scribblenauts waiting to be opened, tried the demo of Trine 2 and liked it enough to download, and there's a good list of games out now that I want to buy (Mario 3D World, Pikmin, AC4, Nintendoland, NES Remix, Castlestorm) plus what's coming out from Nintendo this year. I don't have as much time for gaming as I used to so I don't need a ton of games, I hope the system gets support for several years to come but honestly by the end of 2014 there will be enough out to last me a long time.

I don't have a Wii U and I am glad I am staying away of owning consoles, because they are an expensive I have happily lived without for 5 years now. But WOW!!! Super Smash Bros U and Super Mario 3D World are almost enough to warrant the purchase alone. Throw in Mario Kart 8 and Wii Sports Club, and eventually Mario Golf and I am a super happy camper.

Actually I do at times. There are times where I love it. There are times I'm glad I have it. Times where I can put in a play session that last an entire afternoon and into the night. There are also times I don't touch it and I hate that it's next to my TV and a PS4 or XBO isn't. Hate that I believed Nintendo's pitch for the system at E3 and expected/believed something I should have know wasn't going to happen. That I don't have the extra money to buy a PS4 or XBO and feel I invested incorrectly when I did have the money. That I didn't just double down on my PS3 instead.
I think that's really the issue in the end. There are times where I honestly feel I was taken as fool. I don't feel like my investment is paying off. That influences with how I enjoy games on the system. I don't think it should but it does at times and is why there are times where I don't bother with the system. I don't want to feel that way.
Some people say one shouldn't allow a gaming hobby to affect you like that. They're just games and there are more important things. Get your priorities straight. I feel $300+ for the system is quite important and nothing to be dismissed. The money spent on games is important. The system wasn't an impulse buy and it's why I use the word investment.
I have games for the system. However many of them were likely bought in hopes they would help justify the system's purchase to myself. Sure I was interested in them but none of them were really must haves I feel. Under different circumstances I wouldn't have bothered with them. I'm stuck with them now because it's not worth it to trade them or resell them and that adds to the frustration.
