Where did you get that list of "confirmed" games for the Nintendo Direct? Because I have seen fake lists, but from what I can tell there is no CONFIRMED list. The closest to any confirmation is Hideki Kamiya hinting that Bayonetta 2 will be shown. Super Mario U, Super Smash Bros. 4, and Mario Kart U are the only ones i've seen actually confirmed.

I picked most of the stuff we knew would be there alongside the most probable.

Shingi, then they are not "confirmed", are they? More like "expected", it's predictions of what will be there, not confirmed titles.

Pokepal, that is just for Nintendo stuff. This thread would also include Sony stuff, Microsoft stuff, PC stuff, and other random stuff (i.e. Android tablets, Ouya, etc.).

Well the road to E3 is a Nintendo mostly thread and is about getting there. It makes more sense to have a separate thread for the event to encourage conversation and not having to look for the start of conversations.

Didn't you see? The Kinect 2.0 IS the Vitality Sensor. It senses your heartbeat and everything!  :P:

I guess the E3 thread is someone else's problem this year. I was just considering whether I was going to bother to do press conference threads this year.

Who is going to E3?

I'm debating if I want to try and get my ticket again this year. I have one day to attempt it. Maybe if some you cool people are going I'd be more inclined to try.

Killer Instinct is the only thing Microsoft has shown so far that has piqued my interest and I'm terrible at fighting games not named Smash Bros, which I'm only not-as-terrible at.

I'm at work so I'll check out the recaps and trailers later.

I'd be more interested in it if Rare wasn't making it.

EDIT: Saw the demo, the game has kinda lost it's graphical charm. Now it just looks like any other fighting game.

Killer Instinct looked awesome. Way better than the 90s claymation looking crap. I'm expecting microsoft to pull a WB and buy their way into next years evo.

So what happens if PS4 is $500 as well. I mean they have everything Microsoft does with better parts and way more expensive ram.

It sucks but I expected $500 for both at the hgh end. I think microsoft could have used a crappy basic model as well.

Well, that's your opinion. Mine's quite the opposite.

As for the Microsoft conference, I love shooters. I really do. I'm playing one right now in Call of Juarez: The Gunslinger, but I was getting serious shooter fatigue watching that press conference. And NONE of those shooters were as colorful as Gunslinger is. I don't give a **** about Metal Gear and The Last of Us is pretty much the last Zombie game I have any interest in so Dead Rising 3 didn't do anything for me either. Pretty much the only two games that had my interest were Insomniac's game and Project Spark, and what do you know...those were the two big games with color in them.  And yeah, Microsoft was certainly keeping things classy by throwing in rape jokes while playing a fighting game (Killer Instinct) where a woman was one of the players.

And CERTAINLY not least: $500 for a console where you're paying $60-$70 to rent a game ON TOP OF your $60 a year Xbox Live Gold subscription to play them online. And none of your Xbox 360 games transfer over. **** THAT NOISE!

Not surprisingly, the gaming media is now circling their weapons around Microsoft, except for this industry's real journalists: the bloggers.

But you have to admit but because you didn't like those games mean squat right? I mean Microsoft announced a new Kinect sports games and they didn't even show it.

The sunset overdrive guy looked oddly enough like Mark Cerny.

Could someone explain to me why people were surprised by $499?

They certainly showed games, but I don't think they showed games worthy of a $500 console. I just saw more of the same in that lineup. If you like that, great, but chances are you're probably fine with your existing 360 for now.

As for the price tag, I think people were expecting a cheaper system with a subsidized option, which MS didn't announce.

I think at least partially because all the analysts spent the last week saying it was going to be under $400.

Analysts are wrong more often than a monkey and a dart board.

$499 doesn't surprise me. I need to watch the trailers to see if anything in their lineup is enticing. Nothing sounds fantastic.

So I read comments regarding KI in another news site (I wanted to see Screens or video) and was surprised at some of the stuff coming out if people's "mouths"

Maybe I just wasn't aware of it back in the day, since I want on the internet as a kid.. But did people really consider KI a Mortal Kombat clone? I never had that impression as a kid.. In fact one of the reasons I loved the game was that it was diff than MK (which was only fun for fatalities and gore) and Street Fighter. The combo system was fun and easy to learn, it made the fights feel a little more fast paced.. I haven't met a single person to date that hates it tbh. Either people love it or never heard or played it..

I did when I had the game on Gameboy. Its why alot of people don't want this game and think the revival is stupid. Kid Icars showed me that a revival can be a good thing if done well.

I believe so, Ryse: Son of Rome is the only one they specifically mentioned as a launch title.

Other games have general dates, like they only said Dead Rising 3 will be this "holiday". They never said it would be at launch.

I think the main thing for me is that if MS had any chance of swaying me into purchasing a One, they would have to show me games that I couldn't live without.  Project Spark looked kinda neat, but eeeehhhhh...  Ryse looked fairly generic, the Forza guy couldn't stop saying drivatar, just a whole lot of  "Oh, isn't that nice."

The $499 price was right in the range I was expecting, I wouldn't have been surprised if the went to $529 honestly.  I wonder how much Kinect adds to the cost of the base system, and how much that limited the console's specs.  It's kind of the same problem Nintendo had with the Wii U; there was a cost associated with producing the tablet controller, and bundling it with the console increased its cost.  I was a little surprised to see how many preorders the console received before the price was even announced, but many of those could probably be attributed to unscrupulous individuals looking to sell launch units for a premium.

no way sony can come in cheaper than this, right? 8gb gddr5 ram? $499.99 ps4?

Depends on how much Kinect cost, and how much of a loss Sony is willing to take per unit, I'd imagine.

Well, the EA Conference didn't do anything for me, but they never do so I'm not surprised. I was pleasantly surprised by the Plants vs. Zombies squad-based 3rd person shooter. That's an idea that sound incredibly dumb, but I have to admit that game looks kind of fun. Also, I'm in favor of seeing a Mirror's Edge 2 provided that there are no guns & the game focuses on the better elements of the 1st game: exciting running and traversal. I might pick up Titanfall on 360, but there's no way in hell I'm buying an Xbox One.

Also, although I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in Battlefield 4, it was pretty cool having those guys in multiplayer run up to the top of a building, jump out of it, and then see the entire massive skyscraper come down behind them in real-time.

Well, next stop is last year's Reigning E3 Champion: Ubisoft. Let's see if they can replicate their past glory.

The fact that the 499 figure has not been adjusted for European markets is frankly absurd. While I appreciate that comparing price points in different regions is not as simple as factoring in the exchange rate, £420 is equivalent to around $650. Which is insane.

Unfortunately £420 is far too expensive for me, I fully expect the PS4 to cost even more so that's out of the question, and currently I don't see any reason to own a Wii U. What I'm saying is that it might be a few years before I feel comfortable returning to console gaming.

"The Crew". That GPS kind looks Game Pad-ey, right? Right? Ahh ok the ending crushed my dreams. I think I'm just going to check out from the rest of this conference.

EDIT: I'm seeing the gameplay, and I'm having a hard time believing Wii U couldn't handle this game. It must be a business decision. :(

Well, I think it's safe to say that Ubisoft's in serious jeopardy of losing their crown this year, because that Press Conference was pitiful. We already knew about the vast majority of the games, and what games there were were 90% trailers, pre-rendered or otherwise. Rayman Legends looks great, but we already knew that. The Division looks...like another post-apocalyptic shooter, albeit an exceptionally pretty one. "Meh", overall. C'mon, Sony! It's up to you now to bail this lousy E3 out!

It was in development but Rayman sold well so the team was taken off of it. Its similar to how the rayman franchise got put of hold because the rabbids got popular.

I think The Division looks very nice.

There were some very nice details in there that all added to the overall immersion.

I like the way he closed the car door he was hiding behind, and when he picked up the water.  It did't just vanish, the character reached out and grabbed it.  All nice animations.

Forza 5
Kinect Sports Rivals
Ryse son of rome
Dead Rising 3
Lococycle
Minecraft

Given I've been out and about today, I only managed to see MS's conference.  My take on it is that its basically all more of the same.  The few games that caught my eye were the creation game that is coming to Windows 8 and The Witcher 3 which will be on PC.  MGS did look nice but I'm sure that will be released on the PS4 also along with the current gen twins.  Overall though, I think the conference dragged which is suprising, given they covered strictly games from start to finish.  I think they went on for a good hour and a half.

And here I thought Nintendo was aiming too short with their 1 hr direct tomorrow.  After sitting through this presentation, I think Nintendo will hit the sweetspot in length as long as there isn't too much fluff.

As for Sony's conference tonight, I think they will do better.  I think theirs will be better paced given that they have to cover the system details along with further info on games.  Also, I think their conference will have a little more of a Japanese flair to it.  Looking back at MS's showing, you can really tell the company's western roots for the most part.  Almost all of the games shown for Xbone had a distinctive western feel.

Anyways, here's hoping for a better show tonight, and an even better one tomorrow :) lol.

I'm already a member of PS+ and I've enjoyed the free games, so keeping that 'scrip going won't be a big deal for me.  At least we can still play single player games offline!

I expect Nintendo to launch a White Deluxe Set with a price drop price later this year, but they won't announce it tomorrow. We're just going to see games from Nintendo. Here's hoping for some surprises.

So what does everyone think of the games shown so far? Nothing new has jumped out at me yet. We seem to be deep into the Sci-Fi shooter era again.

The indy games looked great.

The Order struck me as... odd. Destiny looked meh and I'm really curious about that Dark Sorcerer.

The only stuff that really excited me was the indie stuff, like Transistor. I have no plans of getting a PS4 anyway (i'm a one console gamer) but I can't lie, this conference was pretty damn good despite the games being bland to me. At least they showed gameplay.

That's always going to be the case until they just stop selling.  I am optimistic about Sony's self-publishing policy.  Seeing that Quantic Dream trailer made me excited for the potential the increased graphic fidelity offers as a narrative device.

I had a post all about the hype and inevitable disappointment that generally occurs around E3.  People tend to forget about the long development time for a product like a video game.  I would hope that the  games should really start to leverage the machine's power around the third year of the console's lifespan.  Launch games tend to be holdovers from the last gen that didn't make it in time, or just straight out "crossgen" titles.

I am excited about Destiny, for sure.  I love coop shooters, so I'll be all over that.

Microsoft is in a bind. They're launching a (possibly) slightly less powerful console for $100 more. How does that even happen?
I think you're forgetting about the awesome power of the cloud!

Yeah, none of the games have really stood out to me outside of some really nice looking graphics but nothing mind blowing.  Everything still looks more of the same just bigger and more detailed.  Some fun experiences look to be had but nothing day 1 worthy as of yet.  I'll def pick up a PS4 but more than likely it'll be sometime next year.  My WiiU, PS3, and PC will hold me down well into the next couple of years if need be.

Nintendo does need to come out with some surprise games tomorrow outside of their franchise titles.  I also think they need to showcase the WiiU's graphics a bit more so as to not seem outdated so soon.  I'm really hoping X has a big showing tomorrow along with Retro's game (hope to high heaven that its a system showcase piece).  I also would love to see a sequel to ZombiU.  I think the first one looked great and I can only imagine how much better a sequel would look with more time under the developer's belt to better pull from the system's strengths.

From the games shown this far, my favourites are:
Kingdom Hearts III
Mirror's Edge
Final Fantasy XV (and I get to laugh at some people in the next few days because I already said last year that FF Vs XIII is going to be renamed)
Destiny
Dark Souls II
Knack (OK, this was already shown at Sony's PS4 event... but still)

So yeah... getting a PS4. Definitely.

Caught last half of the conference, thought that it was basically lame, but incredibly well-crafted as a knife into MS's side. I'm an old-school Sony hater, but that used game sharing video is amazing (hope it's real!). And their presentation nicely leveled the debut of so many multiplatforms to create a Shakespearean villain illusion of power.

I also was convinced that Sony was going to tap dance into the minefield after MS with the DRM and price ****. So good on them! I hope I won't have to buy one some day!

But yeah, can't see Ndo is gonna but into this conversation significantly.

The Xbox brand is now officially dead.  No one has a single reason to buy the Xbox One now when they can get 99% of the same games on the PS4, for $100 cheaper and don't have to deal with all the bullshit.

Here where neglecting your first party studio's is going to finally bite Microsoft in the ass.  Outside of Halo, they have no major exclusive IP's that can drive mass sales for their system.  Of course, with Call of Duty becoming the most popular FPS series this last gen, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Halo fans leave the series because Call of Duty is a bigger deal and they can get that on the PS4.

Seriously, Sony pretty much has the 18-34 male audience locked up now, and after tomorrow Nintendo will have the family audience locked up.  The Xbox One is now a system that has no appeal to anyone except the most hardcore Halo fans which isn't going to be able to sell enough system for Microsoft to make any profit whatsoever.

Well, Sony just won the generation, and I couldn't be happier. Although they still did absolutely NOTHING to help the Vita, they showed some cool new games (The Order); they showed big games; they showed LOTS of Indie games; and at the end of the day, they stood with the consumer. Even here at home, you could just feel the ripple of energy in that room when Jack Tretton walked up on stage and very openly flipped off Microsoft: first with the announcement of no Used Game DRM and no online requirement, and then with the $400 price point. Game over, Microsoft.

Man, what a great Feel Good moment that last half hour of the press conference was, and as a result I'm feeling optimistic about the industry for the first time in probably a year. I can't even bring myself to hate on Sony for now requiring PS+ to play online on the PS4, b/c PS+ is a fantastic deal anyway.

Your move now, Nintendo. Will you step up and show why you deserve to be in 2nd place now, or will you allow the Wii U to fall even further into irrelevance? I'm excited to find out.

Anyway, thank you for this, Internet.

While I agree with you, merely having the games isn't enough. They have to be good, too. We can't have any Other M-class failures in that lineup.

The only thing that might be a thorn in Sony's side is that PS+ is now a necessity to gain access to online multiplayer. But with regards to the retail price point and the other features PS+ offers, it is safe to assume that the majority of the consumers will not be too annoyed by this.

Sony have really pulled their head in.  They have won me over.  I loved everything I saw today.  I was initially going to stay with PC this generation, but now I am thinking twice.

Wow, did everyone really think that Sony's presentation was that good? I mean sure, all the sticking it MS stuff was awesome, but outside of that there wasn't anything too interesting. The Order or as I'm calling it "Knights with Guns" was lol, who thought that was a good idea? FFXIV looked pretty cool, but Kingdom Hearts didn't wow me. KH has always been overrated and that "trailer" did nothing. Destiny still looks boring and it didn't help that the guy playing was beyond annoying. The indie stuff was cool, but they'll all most likely come out on every platform they can.

Nope, sorry. KH and FF is what I grew up on. Announcing those two games so damn close together after all these years (I've actually been waiting for both titles since 2006) made me fucking cry. I don't care if the PS4 ends up being the worst console in history -- as long as I get those two games in the next three years, I can die happy.
Title: Re: E3 2013 discussion thread

All of the positive buzz Sony is getting is a result of MS's presentation being just "ok" along with all the problems they caused for themselves with their new regulations.  Also, it helped that their conference ended with MS jabbing and the surprise launch price.  Combine all that, and you have everyone feeling good and great.  When you look at the conference as a whole and in and of itself, it was average in my mind.  Nothing really stood out and it was just more of the same.  It was great if your into fpsers and the likes of AAA western releases but nothing I would consider a system seller yet.  A lot of the good stuff isn't even planned to release till 2014.

As for FF and KH, I'm glad you love them Oblivion but to each their own.  I've never been a big fan of KH so I can't speak on that but FF is a mere shadow of its former glory IMO.  They are great games but I don't consider them to be classics.  A lot of the changes post FF7 have split the fanbase I believe.  There are those that prefer old Squaresoft and those that don't mind Squareenix's new direction.  I for one am not a fan of these model looking Jpop characters that seem to liter every new FF release.  I also don't really like their Sci-fi slants that the series has gone on.  My fantasy for another FF would be for them to go back to their roots and create another medieval FF with a strong fantasy angle and a lot of political intrigue similar to the original FF tactics.  What I envision is a Japanese Game of Thrones just with more magic and wonder lol.  I wish Square would make something like that with the budget they throw into these FF releases.  That's just my taste though and can see where other's would prefer otherwise.  This is better left for another thread though lol.

Sony's press conference was better than Microsoft's. They still didn't really wow me into a purchase. The announced games don't do it for me and what Nintendo has planned to show today for release later this year probably would have trumped all anyway.

I was never really into Kingdom Hearts and that teaser would have done nothing for me if it did. It ended with "Now In Development." The game is so far away that it doesn't matter yet. It's like when Nintendo announces that a new Zelda is in development. Great, but I'll get excited later.

While I won't argue about your personal feelings, showing off games that are coming in a few years (frankly, I believe that Kingdom Hearts III will be out by 2016 at latest) gives potential buyers a perspective about what's in store for them a little down the road. This is something Nintendo is currently lacking – we do not have any clue about what's coming to both the WiiU and especially the 3DS beyond the coming holiday season. While it shouldn't turn into something like Sony did with The Last Guardian, having at least a little something to be a little excited about is what would give both WiiU and 3DS a perspective and leaves us consumers with a sense of longevity.
Title: Re: E3 2013 discussion thread
Post by: Adrock on June 11, 2013, 09:26:27 AM
"In a few years" is vastly different from "A little down the road." That's my entire issue with announcing games so early. There's not much perspective since anything can happen to that game. No one wants a situation like The Last Guardian or even Final Fantasy Versus XIII/Final Fantasy XV, but it happens. Square Enix showed next to nothing of Kingdom Hearts III and people are getting really excited. That's certainly their right. How disappointed would they be if the game got delayed to PS5?

Exactly the reasons why I'll be delaying my purchase of PS4 until it comes out, if at all.

Also, remember Killer Instinct? It's apparently free to play, but only free if you like to play as Jago. The rest of the characters will cost money. Soooooo it's really not F2P.

Post by: Mannypon on June 11, 2013, 11:53:59 AM
My take on the whole conference was basically more of the same from everyone just updated with better graphics and finer details.  The PS4 and Xbone are the home of the FPSers and dramatic AAA titles with the occasional interesting indie game.  The WiiU has become Nintendo's factory line for their key franchise titles to be regurgitated and the 3ds has become my only beacon of hope.

I have my WiiU already so I'll be buying the extremely few releases that will be coming to it this year.  My 3DS, PC, and PS3 along with their accompanying backlog of titles will keep me busy until something I must have is released on the PS4.  I will get a PS4, I'm sure of that but definitely not this year and maybe not even the next.

I think this change to AAA (for the majority of the industry) and HD era (for Nintendo) has really damaged the industry.  Every game now seems to be taking years on end to release.  I've never seen an E3 where a majority of the interesting games being shown will not even be available this damn year.  This E3 was more like a Pre E3 2014 show.  The sad thing is that we already know mostly what we're going to see next year at E3.  It'll be a majority of what was shown and announced in the past 2 days.

TBH, I'm somewhat surprised at the lack of Wii U support for Kingdom Hearts 3, just because what S-E showed in that trailer wasn't particularly technically impressive. I suppose there's only so much you can do with that art style. I guess Nintendo's just dug themselves too big a hole with the Wii U.

And really, that's being marketed as a triumph, when it's just maintaining a 20-year status quo. I'm not even particularly pumped on any of the indie stuff, aside from that Myst looking puzzle game.
