What has your NWR Staff been playing on their 3DSes?

The 3DS has been out for more than a year and a half, so it seemed like a good time to catch up with our personal playtimes. Everyone seems to be playing Mario games, with Mario Kart 7 appearing on a record 10 of the 23 lists. New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D Land appeared on nine and eight lists respectively. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (9), Kid Icarus: Uprising (8), and StreetPass Mii Plaza (8) were the other most recurring titles. The most played third-party title? Theatrhythm, with appearances on six lists.

    And now for something completely different.
    Added number 6 since Netflix isn't a game.  I've had my 3DS since November 2011
    * I don't even particularly like this game!  Guess I just can't say no to grinding for sheep.  That, and I'm pretty sure I've fallen asleep and left the 3DS on with this game running all night at least once.

    With the eShop update I do every week, I'm usually at least checking stuff for 30 - 60 minutes. That, and there is some cool video content on the eShop in Japan like Game Center CX.

    I actually think it can be interesting. I often find it surprising and interesting how people play games differently. What for instance made J.P. put 20 hours into Mutant Mudds, when I did everything there was to do in that game in under 9 hours? How the hell did I manage to put over 33 hours into Sacred Stones? Why has Nate only put a few hours into the awesome Pushmo? How could someone put 96 hours into 3D Land?! lol. That's kind of interesting to me.

    Keep in mind Nate didn't get a 3DS until earlier this year.

    In the future, would you guys want to see something like a paragraph from each staffer explaining their lists? Or is it fine in the statistical "So, Josh put more time into three games than I did into the system this year" way?

    Wow, ok. I mean I love that game too but I wouldn't want to play through it for a second time just for the sake of it. That's what I mean though, it's interesting that you liked that game so much that you decided to played through it twice. It surprises me sometimes how differently people, with essentially the same hobby, approach gaming. When ever I come across stats like these it always acts as a reminder that the way I game is not necessarilly the same way that others do. Sometimes it also allows me to reflect on my own habbits. I mean, did I really need to put 29 hours into a game I wasn't particularly enjoying? Probably not, but I felt compelled to play it because Pokemon is an important series and I thought it was worth digging into.

    I can't speak for Neal, but I played through twice - but my second play through was 100% Grannie.  My MM Playtime is only at 13:49 though...

    UB might have gotten me and J.P. confused, but I did do a Grannie Run through Mudds. It was nice because it was like a God Mode romp through a game I loved.

    I played through the standard way both times. I didn't want to take the challenge out of it. I'm playing through it again before the new levels come out, and this time I may use Granny for the secret levels so I don't have to worry about having the right power to access the entrance.

    Like Jonny, my times seem a bit gimped but that's because my first 3DS was claimed by an accident in May and I got an XL last month. My top five most played are:


    1. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 41:12 (Got the million coins, haven't got the DLC but plan to when I get my copy back from my sister.)
    2. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy - 35:34 (Sure is addictive! Gotta get those crystals and high scores!)
    3. Cave story - 14:47 (I'm in the middle of a fourth playthrough now. Very highly recommended.)
    4. Mario Kart 7 - 10:13 (Playing online with a friend keeps me coming back to this one.)
    5. Kid Icarus: Uprising - 9:47 (Gotta get every chapter done on 9.0 Intensity and get the Treasure Hunts done!)


    My top five most frequently used are:


    1. Notifications - 75 (StreetPass, Swapnote, and whatnot.)
    2. Friend List - 62 (Odd since I only have one 3DS friend at the moment... Maybe I'm lonely?)
    3. Swapnote - 50 (Maybe it's because I don't have hundreds to sort through, but I'm kind of enamored with it again.)
    4. StreetPass Mii Plaza - 29 (Woo!)
    5. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 26 (Played it every day for nearly a month!)

    Here is my top 5 overall and top 5 games. I've had my 3DS since August 2011, and use it pretty regularly.

    1) Tetris Axis   74:59
    2) Swapnote   45:41  (Non-game)
    3) Nostalgia   31:08
    4) Kid Icarus   24:52
    5) Pushmo   24:01
    6) Mario Kart 7   23:40

    Used Swapnote 131 times

    My best average is Tetris Axis at over 3 hours (I played one game of marathon for about a month, so the 3DS was closed to go into sleep mode, but game never officially closed).

    10 titles total over 15 hours
    15 titles total over 10 hours
    28 titles total over 5 hours
    So at least I'm getting great use of the system thus far. And once we get Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, it's going to get a lot of use.

    Only Diamond & Pearl. Black's only 150 hours away.

    Most of the others, to get legendaries for other games. (LTTP)

    So I watched that Gamecenter CX clip with Iwata recently and really enjoyed it.

    Having said that, as you can see from my 'least played' games list I think Balloon Fight is terrible.
