Post by: the_dan_x on August 05, 2012, 02:12:32 PM

Play against your friends in Sega's classic puzzler if you have a Japanese 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console handheld Game Gear version of Columns will feature a 2-player local multiplayer mode.

In order to play, gamers will each need to have a copy of the game and a 3DS. Columns is being released on the eShop in Japan next week on August 8 for 300 yen.

WTF?!?

Come on, Nintendo... You're letting SEGA beat you to this?

I want local play (at *least*) on GB/GBC/GBA games!

Yeah, Nintendo definitely deserves criticism on this now. If the Game Gear's link feature can be emulated, there's no excuse for GB games to get the same treatment. From this point forward, all future GB releases to the VC that originally featured multi-player link support ought to have it enabled. I certainly don't expect download play like with Ice Climber, since unlike the NES, GB and GG always required two copies in the first place, but there's no excuse not to support multi-copy multiplayer any more.

What I will be really dissapointed with is if they release pokemon red/blue/yellow and don't have connectivity for them.

That won't be a problem.

I kinda doubt they'll bother releasing the old Pokémon games in the first place. The restore point feature alone would create too many complications... Not to mention the headaches that having the software bound to a single 3DS will cause to those who'd want to buy multiple versions to trade with themself.
