I didn't.  Nintendo knows to give just enough to keep us coming back, but not enough to make us completely happy. :D

While waiting for the super-slow download,  I suggest also connecting your DSi/DSiXL and downloading the system transfer tool from the DSiWare store - assuming, of course, you're planning to transfer DSiWare from your older system...

It shows an option to transfer from another 3DS, so when Nintendo releases the new model we should be able to transfer stuff from our original.

Well, apparently, I won't do that either.  Neither system will allow me to connect right now.  And, apparently, an internet connection is required for what Nintendo claims is a "local transfer".

Oh Nintendo, I've got my Visa card out, ready to input my credit card number to buy me some Nintendo bucks!  Come on, just take my money already!  I want me my green-hued Mario game!

Tax is charged when you buy the game.

Digital Goods Tax Taxes on in-state sales of digital music, books, movies, and ringtones were passed in Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin in 2009.   To date, 18 states collect taxes on digital goods. The etax was initially passed in New Jersey in 2007 and was expanded to Indiana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah in 2008. Additionally, seven states have unilaterally decided to impose the tax through tax administrators with little or no legislative oversight in Arizona, Connecticut, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, and Texas.   Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, and Oklahoma have specifically exempted digital goods from taxation.

Post by: UncleBob on June 07, 2011, 02:02:49 AM
Can I transfer my DSiWare games yet? If so, how?

Yes... and no.  You have to download the "Nintendo 3DS Transfer Tool" from the DSiWare shop on your DSi/DSiXL.  Then, launch that program while, on your 3DS, going into the system settings and selecting "System Transfer".

Follow the prompts and - if - you can get connected, you can then transfer data.

It gave an option for custom or full transfer, but kicked me out before I could mess with it any more.  I want to know if I can select individual titles for transfer or not. :(
Title: Re: IT'S LIVE - UncleBob and Friends live blog of shop download.
Post by: MegaByte on June 07, 2011, 02:09:15 AM
You can do individual titles, and even just Wi-Fi settings, Photos, or Music. Unfortunately, if you choose individual you have to do them one. at. a. time.
It's pretty awesome, actually. A bunch of Pikmin run over to the other system to deconstruct the DSi titles and rebuild them on the 3DS.

One at a time?

Geesh, Nintendo... Why do you hate me?  Between mine and my wife's DSi, I have over 30,000 points left.  You're really going to make me download the title to my DSi, then send it to my 3DS... one at a time?

Also, Pinball Pulse is currently nontransferable, though I assume that will be resolved at some point. I asked the company about it, but they told me to talk to Nintendo.

Oh, and how the freak do you play this game?  I seem not have not only forgotten the basic mechanics, but also the buttons.  Okay, NES, two button game.  Boost and accel?  But then, can you do both at the same time?

Playing supper Mario land...wth, it's been 20 years since I played this, very different from my memories.  What's with the fireball that bounces just once on the ground and launches straight into space as if it's been punted by a young Clark Kent?  And the bouncing bugs that actually take 2 fireballs to kill, violating the cardinal rule of Mario and his deadly instant-kill fireballs?  And Mario is so floaty, I would swear I was playing the Princess in Mario 2!

It has been awhile since I played it as well, I really do not like the physics/controls in the game. With that said it is better then I remember it, despite the goofy mechanics like the fireball. It is a pretty unique game overall.

Okay, so I called Big N and they said they follow the law as applicable in all states/counties and that they charge sales tax in most areas for digital goods.

If you've been charged sales tax and don't live in one of these states, you need to call Nintendo and pitch a fit.

Six dollars for Link's Awakening to me isn't that bad.    It is one of my favorite games.      On another note though, you can download videos of many of the 3DS games at E3 on the E shop right now..  Just downloaded a few myself.

Looks like we are going to see $6 for popular GBC games and probably $5 for lessor GBC games, akin to how Alleyway and Radar Mission are cheaper than Super Mario Land. I wonder, does this mean popular GBA games will be $9 with lessor ones being $8?

Oh man, that would be awesome.  $9 for games like Aria of Sorrow, Zero Mission, Advance Wars, Minish Cap?  Maybe $1 tacked on for Japanese imports like...dare I say...Mother 3?

And regarding our friend Mario...

Oh yes, the physics and the controls are super weird.  Would have demanded my money back after being spoiled by good Mario controls in the intervening years, but the restore point feature/cheat makes it bearable.

If you haven't played that far yet, wait till you get to World 2-3.  OMG.  I totally forgot about that level until it started, and my jaw just dropped.  Why haven't we had that kind of level in any Mario games since?  So freakin' cool.

The whole GB Mario game series Physics and about everything was different then the Mainline but not far enough away to be a totally different series.

$9 for Good GBA games would be somewhat of a steal.  A lot of them go for $10+ still if not more.

Hmm...I also noticed that you enter your U.S. zip code separately and it explicitly says "For Sale Tax purposes."  Not that I'm suggesting one misrepresent their zip code to avoid paying sales tax, but...I wonder if this would work?  Would they check your zip against your CC records when you are adding money to your wallet?  Because I kinda feel bad for people who are paying sales tax for Super Mario Land, since I do not (CA).

On another note, Super Mario Land is crazy.  World 3 is based on Easter Island (like, the real Easter Island) and World 4 is Japan or China, with bouncing ninjas/chinese vampires/whatever who literally cannot die.  I think only World 1 was actually based on the Mushroom kingdom.  Everything else is real world.

WOAH!!!!! You can download videos from E3 games onto the 3DS now.

E3 has new tab of stuff.

On another note though, you can download videos of many of the 3DS games at E3 on the E shop right now..  Just downloaded a few myself.

I kinda sorta called it.

I knew they would do that after the update. But now they need to follow up with playable demos from the show floor.

What the hell Nintendo? How hard would it have been to let me run DSiWare off the SD card? The fridge cleaning continues!

I'm actually fairly confused to how it decides where to save, some downloads go to system memory and others go sd. not sure why

DSiWare goes to the system memory. Everything else goes to the SD card.

That's a lie. I sent all my DSiWare games to my 3DS, and all of them were sent to my SD Card.

Okay, first off, don't take that kind of tone on these forums. This isn't the first time you've reacted far too harshly to someone's comment.

Secondly, unless you got a different system update than I did, no you didn't. Either that, or you can't play any of your games. The system clearly says when you copy a DSiWare title from the internal memory to the SD card that you won't be able to play it if it's not on the internal memory. I tested this, and it is indeed true.

Are you kidding me? Now you're coming off hostile. It says they're on my damn SD card. I took out of my 3DS and the DSiWare games disappeared.

Well that's odd. My 3DS lists my DSiWare as being on the system memory, and when I move it to the SD card and delete it from the memory the game disappears.

Ditto the same for me.  I moved about 30 pieces of DSiWare to my 3DS and was forced to copy some to the SD card from the system (where I got the same message that you're describing).

My DSi Ware won't transfer! T_T Every time I try, it says it can't get connect to the internet, and I have to restart my 3DS. The weird part is that I can use the DSi browser. :\

I am so going to need a big sd card for my 3DS. Planning on picking up a 16gb one. Hopefully that's large enough for a while.

for those wondering(dont know if it has been mentioned).. yes you can 100 percent change your zip code to that of one with no sales tax. and it will not check against your credit card billing address as some suggested it might.    Helena, Montana what up

Yup, I mentioned that, I think.  I did not, of course, suggest that someone actually do that, since I am unsure if that would be illegal or not.  Nor would I ever mention that any California zip codes are sales tax free regarding Nintendo.  I would, never ever ever, give people examples of California zip codes for reference, which typically start with 9, such as 95064, 90035, 90210, etc..  Yes, 90210 is a real freakin zip code.
