Trauma Team is the reboot for Atlus' Trauma Center franchise. This time, you will take control of 6 surgeons who specialise in 6 different practices and each have their own story to tell. They are:
"CR-S01", general surgeon Tomoe Tachibana, endoscopic technician Hank Freebird, orthopedic surgeon Maria Torres, first-response paramedic Gabriel Cunningham, diagnostician Naomi Kimishima, forensics examiner
Atlus are building the game on a new engine featuring stylish 3D visuals and rotation. The focus has also changed, with the operation gameplay now concentrating on precision instead of speed.
I'd suggest watching all of those; if you really want to get psyched up for Trauma Team, take a gander at the Forensics video. It's a bit of coroner autopsies and a bit of Ace Attorney-esque investigation sequences, and it looks very cool.

I have Second Opinion and I am interested in this game. I don't see much that I am interested in May other than this so I will likely grab the game. I think the forensics will likely catch the eye of new Phoenix Wright players.

Don't the current games focus on both precision AND speed? If this one has more focus on precision and downplays being quick, I would actually appreciate that. It could become more like a puzzle game, which I think would work well for this series.

Initially it's because of my obsession with CSI and Dexter and forensics in general. Phoenix Wright was connected to that, though. I seem to have an interest in solving crimes and PW games give me an exciting activity to indulge in that interest.

I missed out on much of an event to get a preview of the game, but I can certainly say, as a fan of Trauma Center, I'm excited :D
Good news/Bad news time: There are two player co-op capabilities, but the option is limited to four of the six gameplay modes, rather than all of them.
I'd say more, but I really don't know more than anyone else does about the game at this point.

Well, some of the modes might not make sense to have co-op.
Watch the video for the forensics mode and you can see there is little ability to have a co-op mode there as it plays out more like Ace Attorney games.
I'm very pumped for this game. When is it coming out again?

Look here. The fifth developer walkthrough has gone up on Atlus' YouTube channel - the First Response (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkuKBPh--Hc) portion of the game.
Better and better with every video. Picking and choosing between several patients at once is a great gameplay dynamic. There's only the Diagnosis segment of Trauma Team left to show off now.

I can see that too Stratos. I'm really excited for this game. I fell in love with Trauma Center: Second Opinion after getting some hands on time with it, although I did get to play the original TC on a friends DS once but she put me on a more difficult mission so i can't really say my first experience with it was enjoyable. Still, i liked the concept of the series and once getting some good play time in Second Opinion, i fell in love with the experience.
However, I've yet to beat Second Opinion, which kept me from moving on to New Blood (which i gave to my girlfriend as a gift). Still.. i really want to check out this new iteration, especially with all the different styles of gameplay. I'm just not sure yet if I'll get it day one.. If I do, i don't expect to play it for a few months after.

Focus on the Diagnosis portion during the final episodes of House this season and focus on all the other relevant parts during other relevant shows, like First Response for Trauma, Forensics for CSI/L&O and everything else for shows like Grey's Anatomy, Mercy, Scrubs and The Doctors.

I'm playing it now. I should have played through it by tomorrow, hopefully, as I've already basically completed one character's story without spending all that much time with it. It's been fun so far, the cutscenes seem to be derived from the "animated comic book" idea, and while the story I played gave me absolutely no insight to what the big picture is, I'm sure it fits in somewhere some how, since I neglected to play things in chronological order for playing them one story at a time.

So far, in the mode I've tried, I haven't really failed yet. I did fail the "Pause" test, where I paused the game, set the controller down, turned off the TV for a bit, but accidentally un-paused the game in there, leading me to fail.

I'm playing this as well and have yet to fail something, but I'm playing on Intern difficulty, so it's the lowest level anyways. I'm really enjoying it so far, my source of frustration comes from getting stuck on something in Forensics and then sort of putting random cards together to see if something happens.

Yes, there's 2, Intern and Resident are available initially, and you can choose to change them at the beginning of any procedure. Diagnostics and Forensics have no difficulty setting. Also, once you beat the game once you unlock the Specialist difficulty setting.

Then rush through the first mission, it's terrible. The rest is pretty good.
I've got two modes left, then the part where all the modes happen at once. I'm hoping to have the game finished tomorrow, before Lost's finale, then have my review sent in for editing that night. After that, it's up to how well I write for it to be up on the site, but it should be pretty comprehensive.
Spoilers: So far, Orthopedics has been the best. The entire mode feels like one big game of Operation on steriods!

You liked orthopedics the best? How come? I'll be interested in the review then. I think this could be a game where everyone has their favorite type of specialty, because currently I don't much care for orthopedics, but I'm also only halfway through. I really enjoy Forensics and Diagnostics, but you can get stuck in Forensics a lot looking for the one thing you missed to progress the story along.

I liked Thatguy's description of the first Forensics case the best. Because I've already experienced the best part of the game, the rest of it likely couldn't entertain me as much, so there's no reason for me to buy it.

Not that the story is riveting, but I'm finding it very enjoyable to bounce between each specialty.
Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread
Post by: that Baby guy on May 23, 2010, 06:09:28 PM
Honestly, I regret that I didn't do it that way. The game would've been a better experience had I spread out the Diagnostics and Forensics missions intermittently, rather than tackle them all at once, since they move much slower than the standard Trauma Center fare.
Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread
Post by: SilverGrey on May 23, 2010, 08:43:22 PM
I got it today. Planning to go through the game chronologically. Sounds like the best.
I like the chronological approach because it gives you some variety in the specialties, otherwise I think you could burn out on the long cases, like forensics.
Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread

But, let's be fair, forensics gets much better as it goes on. Diagnostics was great all the way through, but, IMO, the easiest one to burn-out on.

I'm enjoying Diagnostics the most, currently, but that's because I love using all the images and listening with the stethoscope and all of that type of thing. I get less frustrated with Diagnostics then I can get with Forensics. I find Forensics to be a bit illogical and picky sometimes where I'm ahead of things in my mind and then have to take time to send half of everything to Little Guy to analyze and combine all the cards and so forth. I like the way they did Forensics, absolutely, but I do get frustrated with it. I also get frustrated when I bump into things in endoscopy when I think I'm nowhere near them.

How do you figure out the chronology? I'm rather unsure what to choose first.
The timelines down the side of each character, find the first one and then go right. So it should be Tamoe (Endoscopy) then Freebird (Orthopedics) then Cunningham (Diagnostics) and then you should be down to the next level along the sides. The timeline starts with Surgery, but that first case doesn't show up for a while. Does that even make sense? It's a weird layout, it's true.

I think I understand. Move right doing missions that appear then go down a level and work from left to right again. Lather, rinse, repeat. Yes?

You got it. I'm a little off myself because I was just going in numerical order at first. Surgery #1 First Response #1 Endoscopy #1, so on and so forth. Then I rather cottoned on and understood how to go in order, but my timeline is still a little wonky currently cause I'm ahead in a few areas. It's alright though, the storyline is still disjointed because I'm only halfway, so I don't think I'm too far off.
Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread
Post by: Mop it up on May 24, 2010, 05:25:31 PM
I'll probably play it chronologically, just to mix the modes up. Gotta have variety.
But I might not be getting it for another month or two. I forgot that Tetris Party Deluxe comes out on June 1st, and that's going to be my next game. So perhaps after that, although I'm not really a fan of New Blood, so I might not pick this game up until I find it on sale.

The only thing that has bothered me is the need to push the 'Mote to make the endoscopy tube move. It gets tiring after a while and I prefer to play games often on my side so I have to reposition myself to move it forward. Thank goodness you can press down on the d-pad to go back.

I've almost beaten it, and I've got to say that I really enjoyed it. I dreaded doing CT scans (can you find the blue or white blob in this sea of white and blue blobs?), but other than that I have to give it to Atlus for making an all around entertaining game. I even enjoyed endoscopy, even if it was my least favorite specialty.
The story made me roll my eyes several times though, although I only wanted to vomit when Tomoe was around.

The scans you had to compare would have felt a lot easier if, when you switch from the image to the sample image, there was no loading delay. Then you'd be able to spot the difference a lot easier, because your eye would catch the changes.
In my review, I said Orthopedics felt kind of like a single-player super version of Operation. It was definitely my favorite.

So I just finished the game, and I have a spoiler-question.
Do we ever learn what happened to Joshua? We have the dramatic breakdown, the "I won't give up!" speech, and then...nothing. The kid ceases to exist and is never seen or heard from again. Shoot, his father retires from medicine...
Also, there were plenty of big plot holes in the game, but it was definitely fun to play through.

I don't know if I'd always call the plot-holes. I described the game as "Inconsistent." At times it's a bit too scatterbrained and all over the place to be as cohesive as one would expect in story.

That's fair, although I stand by my statement: too many of the inconsistencies simply can't add up, and many of them are pretty central to the story. Luckily, no one plays these games for the story. ;D

Finally gotten around to getting this game, love it nearly done but are there unlockable missions other than when you complete the game? I actually like Tomoe story arc, especially the ending though you have to listen to Gabe talking in the background on the airplane :)--epic.
It's a shame so many people overlooked this title (barely broke the 100K mark) but you should be able to find it for $15-$20 easily).

Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread

It's a nice idea, but they'd have to rework quite a bit of the game to fit the 3DS, since this game really does use nearly all of the Wii's features at one point or another. Endoscopy in particular would have to be changed radically, and Orthopedics would probably become just a surgery clone.
Title: Re: Official Trauma Team Thread

It is about time for a new game in the series though. A version designed for the 3DS would be great. Reminds me I need to go back and finish this and the second DS game...and New Blood...and a lot of other games.
