Title: UncleBob's gimme your codes thread! (Or, how to get free-ish Nintendo Points!)
Post by: UncleBob on July 11, 2009, 12:07:57 AM
Moderators, fell free to squash this thread - I won't be offended.
Fellow forum goers - If you drink Pepsi or Pepsi products (including Mountain Dew), you may have noticed they have a Rock Band promotion going on.
Long story short, you can redeem the codes under the caps online for a chance to win Rock Band tracks. For the PS3/360 versions, you win a code that lets you download a song of your choice (from a list provided). For us awesome Wii owners, you win a code worth 200 Nintendo points - which you can then redeem on your Wii (or DSi!) and download whatever you want (assuming you get enough).
So - anyone who wants to can send me the codes from their caps (either via PM, e-mail or text message (number in signature!). Alternatively, you can use the codes yourself, but it's better to give, etc., etc...
Thank you for your time!

I believe there are the Rock Band caps on Sierra Mist. :)
Dang it - the last three caps I got were buy-one-get-one frees. :(
More of a chance to get wii points, no?

But I have like 22 bottles of Pepsi in my fridge already. Besides, let's say I buy a Pepsi for $1 (keeping it easy). I get a code. Then, I buy another Pepsi for $1 and get another code. 400 points for $2.
Now, I buy a Pepsi and get a BOGO. Then, I BOGO free and get two codes. Still $2, still 400 points. I just have to drink an extra Pepsi.

So when it wants me to pick a song I just pick any random one and it doesn't matter because the code just gives me points? I have several codes saved up that I'd been using on Rock Band DLC for the 360 but I've run out of songs that I want.

I might have to badger people for caps now. I want some RB DLC and have no money for points.
Hey, UncleBob, or anyone else, would you mind just sharing one or two of those codes with me? There are some songs I especially would like to get, but I'm tight on cash.

Yup. I've ordered some crap called "30 Seconds to Mars" 17 times now. ;)

To anyone with concerns about this working - I've redeemed 51 codes and won 51 times. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v180/TheUncleBob/downsized_0715091616.jpg)
It'll be nice when my Wii gets back so I can load some points up on it.

I could buy that sweet Mario Calculator though. It's 200 points *and* will score me 10 Club Nintendo coins...

You have $100 worth of DSi Points?! Is there even $100 worth of stuff to buy?
Save some of those points until you get your Wii back!

Don't worry - my Wii has (had?) like 5,000 unused points on it before I sent it out and I have about 3,000 points left unopened in my fridge. Also, if this guy comes through (Got me 4,200 points for $13), I'll be looking at 10,000 more points for $25. :)
My Wife's DSi should have about 1,500 left on it (from the 1,000 it started with + the 2,000 I added and minus the few things she's downloaded)... I'll need to add some points to her's too. :)

I'll make an offer. Since I have no Wii to redeem points onto yet, each day until my Wii returns, I'll give away a code worth 200 Nintendo Points. Need a few more points for that WiiWare title, but don't want to purchase a $20 card? Want to buy Birds and Beans for your DSi in spite of the unfairly crappy review score it got from NWR? Perhaps you want to legitimately purchase a RockBand track?
Well, here's your chance!
But I'm not going to make it too easy!
I'm going to take two Nintendo games (from any system - both games will be from the same system!), scramble the names together and post it. Whomever is the first to unscramble the two names will receive the code!

The funny thing is that I had read your post and thought you meant Excitebots and didn't even think anything of the lack of the Twilight Princess subtitle on Zelda. So I started trying to decode it from a Wii perspective. Then I thought I was Legend of Kage in there and went full loop around to NES again to come up with Excitebike and LoZ. I posted it, thinking I was all smart, only to see that was what you meant the first time. So I quickly changed it to look like I was correcting you.
LOL, silly me.

The worst part about that cheating method is that the games in question probably aren't even dictionary words. =P
All the words in the game titles are, in fact, normal words and each one is there in your list. :) If it wasn't for the fact that you cheated and didn't come up with that list yourself, I'd probably give you the prize. ;)
If no one has it within 24 hours, I'll give a hint... but I dunno about telling what system they're on... :)

Enter it into your Wii. I'm assuming the code he game you is the final code to get the points off of the Wii. The actual code on the cap is submited to their site and it spits out the code you have for entering on the WiiShops promo page.

I'm going to give *another* hint... I'm not at all surprised no one got it originally. I'm stunned no one has gotten it after the first hint was solved...
LOL, I've been looking at ALL games, not Nintendo published ones. Silly me. I'll maybe try again when I get home unless UncleBob answeres my question. I'm disqualifying myself if he answers it.
It's not about that, Mop it up. I'll go ahead and share my theory I'm trying to get UncleBob to confirm. I'm too tired and am going to bed in a few minutes as I just got home. Consider myself out for this round (unless by tomorrow when I get to work you still haven't gotten it)
The hint was Pokemon Acropolis or whatever. You look on Wikipedia and the only thing that stands for is an expansion in the pokemon card game.
First conclusion I came to: Ah, the only pokemon card game is on the Game Boy Color. Therefore the system the games are on is the GBC. After following some leads there that turned to dead ends I returned to the article and read about that specific expansion. It used the e-reader cards.
Second conclusion I came to: Ah, the e-card reader was for the GBA. Therefore they must be GBA games. All I found were leads to dead ends.
Take that as you will and happy hunting to you all.

Yes I have. You'd think that would narrow it down but I have yet to see any Nintendo-developed title which does not have an "I", "O", or "U" in it. Except The Legend of Zelda, but there's no "Z"...

I think the key letter could be the "K". It's the only less-common letter which could help narrow it down.
I don't think I'm going to try any more though. I've looked over lists of titles developed or published by Nintendo for every system and I still see nothing which could fit.

CHRIST ALMIGHTY
I spent the past hour entering 53 Pepsi codes into the website and then redeeming them for Wii Point codes and then redeeming those on my Wii system.
I really wish I had a wireless keyboard. It would make the third step much easier.
I now have 12,300 Wii points. Whoever I'm Secret Santa for is going to be REALLY happy this year. ;D
For what it's worth, I'm 79 for 79 exchanging Pepsi codes for Wii Point Codes.

Caps can be found "under specially-marked bottle caps of 20 oz and 1 liter Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Caffeine Free Pepsi, Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi, Pepsi One, Wild Cherry Pepsi, Wild Cherry Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi Lime, Pepsi Lime, Diet Pepsi Lemon, Diet Sierra Mist." Also says something about fountain drinks in some markets. Says nothing about 2-Liters or 6-packs.
With the return of working Wii codes and the lack of a return of my Wii (it's coming!), I present to you, a new challenge.
The two games listed below are for the same system. They were not developed by Nintendo, but were published by Nintendo. The company that developed the games has developed several other games for Nintendo's systems through the years.

Not that I have any idea what it is...

I might give a few more away here and there, just for fun. I must admit, I was mistaken in my last puzzle - the two games (both for the same system) were developed by two different companies. Horribly sorry about that.
A few hints: the games are cartridge based. You probably haven't played them - they were only released in Japan (the names are in English though). You probably haven't played the system they were released on - although the system *was* released in the US. The entire system was emulated in a GameCube game that you probably didn't play either. If you did, I'm sorry...

So they are some obscure Japanese games released on some obscure system nobody's ever heard of? Great. I'm going to guess the system wasn't made by Nintendo...
At first I thought they might be Intellivision games because there's a GameCube compilation with 60 Intellivision games on it, but there were more than 60 games released...

The two games are:
Pichu Bros. Mini Togepi's Great Adventure
for the Pokemon Mini system. The system itself it pretty cool and there are a few good games, but its limitation to the Pokemon franchise pretty much killed any mass-market potential.
I got the system when it was on clearance from the Pokemon online store, and I have played the Gamecube emulated version. It took me a couple years to track down an English version of Pokemon Tetris -- it seems to have been released only in Germany and Spain.

So - This promotion worked out for RockBand after all. They got me to give them money because of it.
Once I received my Wii back, I had about 65 200 Point codes to enter in. GameStop has had the Logitech Wii Wireless Keyboard for $20 for a little while. Obviously, I've wanted one anyway, but I figured the keyboard would be worth getting *now* to make the 65x12-digit-code easier to enter (and did it ever!).
Well, I got to thinking, the keyboard is USB. The Wii, as we know, has two USB ports. Currently, in mine, is the Wii Speak Mic and the Wii LAN Adapter (have Wireless internet, wanted the more stable/faster connection). Now, I could just unplug the Wii Speak mic most of the time, but figured I'd price USB hubs while at Best Buy.
The cheapest USB hub they had was $20! More than I cared to pay (and I'm sure I could get one much cheaper online anyway).
So, while looking around, I find a USB hub, on clearance, near the video game stuff. $10. It's the Rock Band-branded one. Figured it was an omen and picked it up. ;)

I entered all three codes which worked... then said I wanted a free rock band song, and 1 out of the 3 times it said I didn't win.
Am I the only one this has happened to?

I think UncleBob posted earlier a picture of the cap. I've only seen red ones but there are supposedly yellow ones too. They have a Rock Band guitar logo on the cap.

They aren't on two liter bottles. 20 oz. only.
Pale, now that I think about it, when you lost are you sure you selected the 'win a song' option? UncleBob lost once because he accidentally entered to win a Rock Band Band Kit.

I'd like to thank unclebob for giving me 200pts just for doing a simple favor for him this weekend (non-sexual in kind, mind you!) and pepsi for giving me another 200pts for drinking their cherry flavored product with an awesome slice of pizza i had.
Now i'd like to let you all know how lame i am, and tell you I actually spent those points (and 200pts i already had on my account) on actual rock band DLC.. lol!
I might actually start drinking pepsi more because of this stupid promotion.. damn them!

Maybe more people figured out the deal so we're hitting the actual per day limit.
I would say if you get a loss, stop and wait for the next day to enter more codes.
I went ahead and used my last BOGO free caps to get a last batch of pepsi codes. I'm done after this though. I'm already feeling sick every time I drink the stuff. Too much fake sugar and stuff. It's way too sweet for me. Plus I'm starting to get some zits which always happenwhen I drink too much pop. :P

One suggestion that came up on CAG - and sounds plausible to me - during the first part of the promotion, the caps were somewhat hard to find - and perhaps 5,000 people weren't trying every day for DLC - and so it all stacked up and ran into the next day. Maybe, now, we've finally ran out of all that savings. :(

For anyone wondering: I've entered 236 codes at the RB/Pepsi site. 72 of those were purchased from eBay at 50 cents each. Several of these have been given to me free from co-workers. One guy, who's been giving me plenty, hadn't seen me in a few days. He came up to me today with a pocket full (like 15). Whoo!
So, anyway, out of those 236, I clicked the wrong button once and lost at the RB Bundle.
171 of my entries were from 7/25 or before, when every entry was an instant winner. 64 entries have been since then, when the win-ratio has plummeted. I've lost 31 times, won 33 times (51.56% win-ratio)
204 wins out of 236 entries.
$408 worth of Wii Points - or 40,800 points - for virtually nothing. I did spend the $36 on the eBay codes, but for the sodas I've been drinking - well, I would have drank a soda anyway (maybe would have switched it up from Pepsi though - I had a Dr Pepper at dinner tonight and it was soooo tasty...). And there's all the free codes from co-workers... So, let's take the $36 I paid on eBay. Let's say about 1/3rd of my caps were from co-workers (although I'd say it's closer to half, I'm going to go low here). Let's say I paid about 75 cents for the soda and about 50 cents for the cap (to match my eBay rate). So, $55 for my 2/3rds, plus $36 for my eBay - $91 for $408, or about 22% of the actual price. Yay! Makes me feel better for buying the Mario Clock.

Unlike 360 and PS3, there's no way to give you a download token for a specific song (or even a specific VC/WiiWare title, if they were so inclined). All they can do is give you a token for 200 Wii points.
For once Nintendo's limited technology infrastructure works in our favor!!

Actually, Nintendo's service does have the capability to give download tokens for specific titles. I won a copy of World of Goo that had a special code (you enter it in a different place than points). But I'm not sure if it works for DLC, or maybe EA is just dumb.

It probably doesn't work for DLC. Also Nintendo's stubbornness could have made Activision do it that way. They can be quite obstinate.

In case anyone's interested, here are the results of my latest round.
Not as great as it once was, but I'm still ahead of the curve. ;D
FYI, I tried gaming the system to see if it had any effect on win percentage. As far as I can tell, it doesn't. I entered these codes over the period of 3 days--all in the morning--with several minute between each play session. It didn't seem to affect the likelihood of winning.
Has anyone tried to play late at night? I wonder--for example--if less than 5,000 songs were given out that day they'd just start handing them out like candy before the day reset.
I just purchased another 53 more. We'll see how it goes. ;)

Title: Re: UncleBob's gimme your codes thread! (Or, how to get free-ish Nintendo Points!)
Post by: vudu on August 13, 2009, 01:39:31 PM
Yeah, that's a good deal. Out of your 50 caps you can expect to win about 25 time (or $50 worth) so you'll wind up paying about $0.36 per cap.
I don't know if the time you enter your codes really matters. It seems like it doesn't.
FYI, the website is out of Wii codes again. If you win you'll have the opportunity to get your code later, so it shouldn't stop you from playing.
THEORY: After they get new Wii codes win percentage will go up for a brief period of time (or maybe it's during the time they're out of codes).
I would think that not as many people will play today since they're out of Wii codes. This means that whenever they get more codes there should be a mini-stockpile that will increase your win percentage. Or maybe it's more like not as many people will play today so towards the end of the day it'll be easier than normal to win. Not quite sure. I'll test the theory tonight/tomorrow.

so my mom got a pepsi, and one for myself. That would have given me 400 points. I later bought another pepsi so it would be 600 and I could actually buy something on the store.
I put the first code in and i lost. :o >:( :-\
GRRRRRR. First time I lost.
So i just put the rest to win that HD Camera. That would be cool if I won. I was tempted to put one for a 360 but with school coming up again I wouldn't really play it and it would be daunting to have another console with so many great games.

I think I found a way to game the system. I "discovered" it 9 codes into my latest round. Since then I've won 30 of 44--roughly 68% win percentage. I think I might be able to get it even higher--I'm shooting for 75%. I'll try it again tomorrow morning and let everyone know the results.

There seem to be certain time slots where you win every time. I'm not sure if it's as simple as X number of minutes for winners, Y number of minutes for losers or if they do something like 5,000 winners per day is equal to 200 per hour, so if they haven't have that many people play during that hour they just start making everyone a winner. Those are just two theories as to why.
Anyway, what I do is play a code. If I lose I don't play again for ~10 minutes. However, if I win, I start playing as fast as I can--I don't even bother to stop to collect my download code; I just save it to my account so I can play again ASAP. I store up codes in my account so I don't have to enter new ones as I play.
Here as the results of my last 44 plays:
-win five times in a row -lose once -win once -lose twice in a row -win three times in a row -lose once -win six times in a row -lose three times in a row -win once -lose three times in a row -win four times in a row -lose once -win once -lose once -win eight times in a row -lose twice in a row -win once
That's 30 wins out of 44 codes--or 68% win rate.
I'm willing to bet that I would have won several more times after that last one had I not ran out of codes.
The trick is to find the "winning section". Unfortunately, this trick really only works if you have many codes to play at one time. If you're only playing a handful you might never find the pot.
Again, I haven't really tested this, so it could have been a fluke or it could have been related to the site running out of Wii codes. Play at your own risk.

Just went on a tear! 7 in a row and 8 of my last 10. They are out of wii points again...
Total number won= 9/15 = 60% So just with that I made up all that I paid for the caps and I have 48 left!
45/63 = 71.4%
Win History: 2, 7, 7, 2, 6, 5, 5, 8, 3
That's my whole batch, I think I will be buying some more though! I did really well and have $90 in points to show for it!

I said "wow".
I think I'm onto something.
I played 38 codes this morning. I won 28 of them. 74% win rate. I had winning streaks of 3, 9 and 12. Twelve, damnit!!
I actually lost my last four--I think they may be short on codes for the rest of today, so I'm done until tomorrow. If you discount 3 of those last 4, I'm 28 for 35--80% win rate. Holy cow!
If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you kept this strategy quiet. Bob, this mean don't post it on CAG. And if I see a story on Go Nintendo I'll be sad. I don't mind sharing with you guys, but if the entire Internet jumps on this my chances of winning take a nose dive.

Well, this has been somewhat worrying...
I tried two codes right when I received the lot. Both were a loss. So I waited a couple of hours and tried again. First one won but the second one was a loss. I entered one again about ten minutes ago and lost. Then I tried it just now and won nine times in a row before losing.
So, 10/15 have won, or 66.6%. By this experience, night seems to be the best time. I'll try again in ten minutes and see what happens.
Ten codes is 2,000 points which is more than enough to get my money back. Here on out is all profit.
EDIT: Played one, lost. Gonna try again at the end of the hour.
EDIT 2: Played ten more codes, won six of them.

I didn't fare as well as the lot of you. My record is 30/50, which is only 60%.
In my experience, trying it on the hour is the best time to get winners. Those were actually the only times I won. Midnight Pacific time might be the best time, because that's when I won nine times in a row. All other streaks were four or less.
Title: Re: UncleBob's gimme your codes thread! (Or, how to get free-ish Nintendo Points!)
Post by: Stratos on August 17, 2009, 05:34:29 PM
OK, I got all of my codes played and here is my W-L record. All codes were played between 12:30AM and 3:30AM Pacific time. This is the 50 codes I got plus 2 caps I got from work. Also, I followed the thread advise and waited a few minutes after most of the loses.
On 8-16 w-l-l-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-l-l-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-l-w-l-w-l-l
On 8-17 w-l-w-w-w-w-w-l-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-l-w-w-w-w-l-w-l-w
So total score was 39-13 or 75% win rate. $0.41 each. Nice. I may do this again. I have a lot of VC and WW games I want. But I will wait until I get Wii D/L Tickets for all of these before I go again. I want to make sure I actually see this return become reality before I dump more money in and then watch as the contest shuts down.

Wait, that means I can redeem the code but wait to put in the Nintendo code. I don't think Nintendo has Wii Point codes expire and that's exactly what you get. You just have to select the button but once you have the code you have it.
Started my new campaign to winning, just put a few in now for the heck of it. Won 3 in a row.

So here's my stats, so far:
395 Codes Entered (this doesn't count the 14 I've left to redeem). I've lost 8 times for bundles. (Once by mistakes, the others, I thought "What the heck?") I have 63 (not 65) winning entries left to redeem. I've won DLC a total (including the 63 non-redeemed entries) of 322 times, lost 65 times.
Total redeemed Wii Points: 51,800 Total waiting to be redeemed: 12,600 Total losses: 73 Win:Loss Ratio: 322:73 - 81.5%.
Assuming a price of 50 cents/cap (which is waaaaay high considering how many I was given for free from coworkers and a few lots from eBay for 30 cents or less), I've spent $197.50 on caps. For a total of $518 (or $644) worth of Wii points. Or about 62%(/70%) off.
If we drop down to 30 cents/cap, I spent $118.50 - or 77%(/81%) off.
If I had won every single entry, I would have gotten $790 worth of Wii Points. At 50/30 cents per cap, that would have been 75%/85% off.
Add in the Club Nintendo points I've gotten (yay!) and all the Pepsi I've drank (errr... yay?) and I think I've gotten a good deal.

The prizes are for DLC. I don't think the official rules or such mention anything about any particular system...

Yeah, I'm worried that they are trying to ride it out. Oh well, if worse comes to worst, I'll just get a bunch of download codes for the XBox 360 and sell them on eBay, I'm sure somebody would buy them.

No tickets yet...
Kinda makes me wish i didn't play these points for songs and instead used it to try and win a 360. At least that why i'd feel like they weren't AS wasted.

No, I meant you have to take back everything bad you said about me on March 1. You can keep all the other bad things you said about me.
Listen dudu, I do things my way and that's that!
;)

479 points entered.
358 Wins for DLC - or 71,600 in Wii Points ($716) 90 DLC losses (aww) 13 Wii RB Bundle Losses (whadda waste) 18 in 360 Drawing (This week's drawing - maybe I'll win?)
Bought some codes off of eBay ($0.50 - $0.22 each). Drank tons of Pepsi. More than any man should. Got tons of caps from co-workers as well, including one guy who I think drank more Pepsi than I did. All-in-all, came out good.

Well, today is the last day codes can be entered, so I hope you all got yours in!
If it weren't for this promotion then I probably never would have downloaded any WiiWare games. I'd just like to take a moment to thank UncleBob for creating this topic and informing everyone of this promotion, and also thanks should go to Vudu who experimented with the winning system and posted his results here.

DAMMIT!
I had one more code to enter that my girlfriend sent me yesterday via text, but I thought i had until today to enter it in. ****!
Until when do we have to redeem the code tokens we have? I have like 4 or 5 just sitting there, waiting.

End of the month. But you really should do it ASAP. There's no telling when they'll run out of Wii point codes again (and no guarantee that they'll restock).

Thanks. I already have the codes to redeem, just have to make sure I do that before the end of the month.

If you mean the 200 Wii Points codes, you have until December 31st to enter them into the Wii Shop Channel.

Well, apparently, there's some hoopla over the fact no one seems to have won anything on the last day of the contest. I'm not complaining, but I can see how some people felt cheated...
Anywhoo, I'm famous - I'm quoted in that article... no credit given to me though. :(

Well now I'm glad I got all mine in. If there were a lot of people who were waiting to play their caps for those two final days then it is possible that all of the prizes were awarded within the first couple of hours. Unless someone can PROVE that no prizes were awarded then there's nothing they can do about it, and I highly doubt Pepsi would investigate it further.
If credit isn't given with your quote then are you really famous? How would anyone know it is you?

Just a friendly reminder, any codes you received from the Pepsi/Rock Band promotion are going to expire on December 31.
I found about 50 codes I never got around to entering. I am now going to spend the next hour punching these into the Wii Shop Channel. I thought I was done with this ****.

Perfect timing to be extra generous with your secret santa if you can't think of anything you would spend money on for yourself.
Good time for another mod sponsored contest. ;) captioning contest in the funhouse maybe?

It's a stupid game. Think of a better one and maybe you'll be on to something.

The new thing is baseball hats. If you get three pepsi caps with the same team name underneath, you can send them in along with the name of the team you like, and they'll send you a hat!
Or a cap could win a 15% discount on any purchase of $75 or more on MLB.com
Claims must be postmarked by September 30, 2010 and received by October 7, 2010. Anyone want to participate in some cap swapping?

I still have $350 unredeemed. The codes still work, but not on 3DS. Adding $2 at a time kinda sucks, which is why two years later, here I am.

Damn... $350?
Want to sell some? :D
What would suck worse is entering the codes into your DSi, downloading games from the DSiShop, then transferring them to the 3DS... ugh..

And that's exactly what I'm doing... want to sell the DSi, but not the points.

It's what I had to do with several titles I wanted. Except I entered my codes a long time ago... and I'm not selling my DSi. :D
I was serious about buying some of your codes, by the way. ;)

Once I'm done buying games, that should be worth an extra year of Club Nintendo Platinum at least, so I should be set for the next 3 years easy. Of course, that's yet another painful process, 10 coins at a time.

Nintendo changed the survey rules, so now you have to fill them out within a few months instead of three years, so unless you really space out your purchases they won't get you Platinum from them past next year.

I still have a ton of surveys that don't expire until 2014 - 2016, so I'm good.
