What the hell happened to the good sitcoms of the early to mid 90's?  All of them are absolute crap now. I remember being little and watching Full House, Home Improvement, Boy Meets World, ect..... I have no interest in today's sitcoms.

It's because you like ****, apparently. Watch The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (then they start again, though you can always watch reruns too). That is all you need to watch, period.

I'm too busy watching old TV from Netflix to worry about current TV. If you want a sitcom go find reruns of MASH, now that's a good show.

alot of the newer better sitcoms dropped the 3 camera set deal.

good sitcoms = The Office, Its Always Sunny in Philidelphia, Scrubs, Spaced. There were a couple more old school ones that were pretty funny, but those already went of the air. I liked King of Queens, and grounded for life but the stars of those shows are off to bigger and better things. I like dromedy shows better than regular sitcoms, Dead like Me was hilarious, Weeds is good (maybe was..this season so far is more drama)

Did you see the last episode? It had a funny moment with the two men in the bedroom.

::paraphrased::
*Mexican and Gay Cop wrestling while chained to bed post*
Mexican: Ahhh!!! You got a boner!!!
Gay Cop: Thats perfectly acceptable in combat situations
Mexican: No its not, I don't wanna fight with you any more!!

I watched Full House. Wasn't the best, but that was what I watched.

No to David the Gnome, no to Maya, but yes to the Monchichis. How about Giligan's Planet and the Dukes of Hazzard cartoon where they drove the General Lee all around the world? The Rubix cube cartoon? Mighty Orbots. I love the Mighty Orbots, cheesier than Voltron with less substance.

I loved those shows but the only one i can watch and still get a laugh out of is Married with Children. Speaking of Fresh Prince though, i played the song "Apache" by the Sugar Hill Gang at my house party (for my birthday a few weeks back) and EVERYONE did that Will/Carlton dance.. it was so fucking epic.

I'm not sure whether to be glad no one caught it on film or not though.. It woulda been sweet to have it on video as a reminder of a good time, but then again, i woulda ended up on youtube.. ugh!

No love for Malcolm in the Middle? :(

It was an okay show. Not my favorite, but i didn't feel compelled to change the channel when it was on either.

Speaking of sitcoms on Fox though.. what was that one with the little chubby kid and the possibly homosexual best-friend that i believe was set in t he 60's or 70s? (No, not That 70's show) I think it was Oliver something..

The first couple of seasons of MitM were great.  The Bowling episode (which, I think, won some award or something) was awesome, but the episode where they get new neighbors and all the family members have a counterpart that they don't like (except for Hal, which shares a few special moments with the father from the other family).  Dewey's adversary is a lawn gnome - he runs up to it and throws a rock at it.  The rock bounces off the gnome, flies back and hits Dewey in the face. I love that scene.

Oh, and Oliver Beene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Beene)

Oliver Beene!! Thats the one. I remember liking that for the short time it was on, but it was probably crap.

**** YEAH! Thats exactly what i thought you were talking about (David the Gnome). I used to watch it all the time as a kid. I still remember the last episode i saw was when his poor friend the Fox got his leg caught in a bear trap.. that poor fox!

And for the Fresh Prince thing, i know its mimic'd as much as the thriller dance is (exactly why i wouldn't want to be another video on youtube) but i was surprised that at my party everyone did it cuz i had such a diverse group of people there; young, old, and from VERY different backgrounds. Thats what made it so epic.

I've done the dance myself, to hell with being embarrassed, it was fun & I wasn't alone.

ubt I was just looking through what Comcast On Demand had to offer, and ran across Thundercats on WB Kids On Demand.
I just watched an episode, and it wasn't as bad as it was when I watched it for the first time in a long time about 4-5 years ago.

I'm really hoping some network brings back He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
That & GI Joe were my two all time favorite cartoons, and the ones I had the most toys of.

There's embarassment, and then theres youtube embarassment. I don't mind the former, i just have issues with my face or likeness being easily accessible on the interwebs. I don't even like the fact that my girlfriend has a few pictures of me on her myspace.

Oddly I never watched Fresh Prince very much. I didn't watch a whole lot of sit-coms very much actually. I think I had this opinion that cartoons were a superior form of entertainment and everything else was filler.

I can't say anything about newsradio or spin city cuz i never saw thos shows, but i will definately agree with you about Phil Hartman. He was one of the first celebrities that saddened me when i found out they were gone..

Ever see that one episode of SNL he was one, where he played Charlton Heston (sp?) doing a book on tape for Madonnas book "Sex"? Classic..

I used to watch that show. Favorite episode (or most memorable) was Office Syndrome.

Where you have an very average girl start become very attractive by working in close quarters with her over a period of time.
& girl you probably have no interest in at first, not attracted to in the slightest, and somehow over the course of time, you mental wittle away all her imperfections in your mind until all that is left if some beautiful person that you wonder why you didn't think of them that way before.

it was a great episode because it can be very true. Its like the beer goggle effect only over a much slower period of time. Weeks or even months.

laugh track is sort of being phased out, its an insult to viewers. On the other hand some shows were filmed in front of a live audience. Laugh tracks especially piss me off when they say something not funny and they still laugh. In movie I always laugh when i see someone who has been funny in the past. Like bam Jonah hill cue laugh, bam John C. Riley cue laugh, bam Nick Swardson cue laugh..he wasn't even really funny on bedtime stories or art school confidential, but i still laughed.

Yeah i remember those, bug again i can't remember if it was specifically that, the simpsons or futurama. I'm sure they've all done it at one point.

Two of my favorite examples are in Futurama, when they had Bender make a ton of one liners off camera for a lot of the episode (Human Horn episode, ie Lurr gives a speach about treating animals, big or small, with care and bender shouts "IN THIS CASE SMALL" lol).
The other one is the episode where Leela thinks she's found another long lost cyclops and they bicker like Al & Peggy while their neighbors watched on the couch while laughing/whistling like the Married... With Children audience used to haha.

God every time i think of that episode, i wish they had Ed O'neil to play Alquezar.. how EPIC would that have been!?

...your side/back muscles are terribly sore for no logical reason and you have a heating pad on it to soothe the pain. Been like that for a week now. :/

You know your old when kids ask you what a cassette is.

You know you're even older when you then go on to talk about 8-tracks and records first before even getting around to explaining what a cassette is.

LOL coulda done well in the Random LOL of the Day thread too!

My family had some long time friends of the family over last night, and we were just hanging out. The two sons of my mothers friend are guys i've known since they were pretty much born, so when i introduce them to people i just introduce them as "cousins" to make it easier. How does this relate to this thread?

Well, you know you're old when you're sitting around having a few hard drinks with kids you had to babysit.. damn.

Kraken and Sniper are under 20. Haven't seen Sniper in a while, though.

There are a few others but they've slipped my mind.

Well, you know you're old when you're sitting around having a few hard drinks with kids you had to babysit.. damn.

I know what you mean. Kid's that were in middle school when I was a youth leader are full grown adults and taller than me. Makes me all emotional when I think of them all grown up.

It's also disturbing when your good friend's kid sister is grown up and she is attractive. Very disturbing and uncomfortable.

Damn you are old.

DAMMIT! I know i replied to this yesterday because i sent you a PM right after this, but it never went thru...

Anyway i was pointing out I only just turned 23 a month ago and am only a year older than YOU so LOL

It's also disturbing when your good friend's kid sister is grown up and she is attractive. Very disturbing and uncomfortable.

Luckily I haven't been thru that because hardly any of my friends have sisters, or at least not ones i see frequently enough. However, it was pretty awkward when I came of that age to start noticing girls, in that sense, and realized my best friends sister was pretty damn hot.. Now its even weirder cuz i've known this guy and his family since kindergarten so she's almost like family now. I run into her every now and again because we work in the same city, and I feel like a redneck with "hot-cousin" issues.

On the topic of age.. I never really noticed till now that there are few members here under 20 (that post regularly at least) and to be honest.. I kinda like it this way. We're all mature and respectful of eachother (when we want to be) here and the last thing I'd wan't is for some bratty 12 year old to troll every thread with l33t speak or whatever. Granted, not every teenager is like that and i'm sure there are plenty of younger gamers out there that are knowledgeable on gaming before the PSX era.. but when you see other things out there on the internet, it makes you a lil biased against them.

Anyway, I don't want this to turn into some debate about whether or not age always equals maturity (cuz even here we see it doesn't), i'm merely stating my opinion that we've got a pretty kick ass community here. NWR R0x0rz!

I had two "I am old" moments recently.

1.) We started carrying Mexican Coke in glass bottles at work.  Everyone there knows they're one of my favorite things.  So, I'm walking down the hall when a younger associate passes me carrying one of the bottles.  She kinda holds the bottle "How am I supposed to open this?".  I tell her I've got a bottle opener in my office - so, we step down to my office and I hand her the bottle opener.  It's nothing fancy, just one of those with the bottle opener on one end, the can punch on the other, and a magnet in the middle.  She holds out her hand, and I lay the bottle opener in her palm.... she looks down at it, then looks at me "I don't know how to use this."  And she's not stupid or anything - she's just never had to use a bottle opener.  Makes me sad.

The second moment was when I was in the break room with a co-worker playing Mario vs. Luigi.  One of us had died via bob-omb and one of us said the phrase "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb."  Of course, we broke out laughing and another, younger, co-worker didn't get the joke.  I said it was a quote from the greatest movie of all time by the greatest actor of all time.  The other co-worker asked who - and I said Adam West.  They asked "The mayor on Family Guy?"

lol, didnt know how to use a bottle opener and isn't stupid?  Or maybe she wants your balls?

the second one is an old moment, although its more or less because they don't play re-runs of batman anymore like they did. It used to be on FX when FX was a Nick at Night type channel before Nick at Night was a channel and not just the night block of Nickelodeon, and also on the Scifi Channel before it was Syfy. It now airs on some obscure channel that nobody gets.

I remember when the milkman sat out fresh bottles for us every morning, taking the empty bottles from the previous day to be filled and used again. Nothing was more fun that collecting the cardboard-like caps off of the bottles. We'd play games with them not too dissimilar to marbles.

We used to sit the spoiled milk, and sometimes even sour cream, out in a little dish for the hedgehogs to drink. Good times.

Of course, I never much liked milk itself. Just the caps. Even nowadays, I only sparingly use soymilk in things like cereal and baking.

Morari was playing pogs before they tried to become a fad in the 90s. I've never seen an actual milkman, though it probably depends on where you grew up.

I remember when you could dial on the phone locally using only 4 numbers. The tvs had a seperate dial for channels over 13. You had a choice between leaded and unleaded gas. MTV only played music videos. (ok, thats not really a sign of being old... or is it?)

The tvs had a seperate dial for channels over 13.
Ha. the UHF dial. I remember needing an antenna that had that dial on it to for other TV's that didn't have the 2nd dial. Like the bigscreen floor model tv that was made out of wood... the one that eventually became a table for the much smaller tv that sat on top of it.

Well, maybe you're further out than I was thinking. My wife drove to Nashville in 8 hours. I drove to UBs in 6, not counting the snow storm.
It be 8 hours then.  I live near Nashville... Plowing through the snow to UBs ...  Nail biting.

The tvs had a seperate dial for channels over 13.

As I recall, the only channel we ever had that high was PBS. I'm thinking that it actually came in as Channel 24. I still have the antenna tower up outside. It's 60 feet, though I have the segments under the house to make it 90 if I had really wanted to. We used to have the directional controls hooked directly into the TV itself, so that it would automatically adjust its heading to best receive each channel. All of our channels would come in crystal clear from well over 200 miles away. It probably also helped that we live on top of one of the tallest ridges in the county.

I've been toying with the idea of hooking my router up to the tower, actually. Maybe I could canvas the entire property with wifi then. Of course, I'd need a different antenna. Only the tower itself would really be usable.

How it broke down with where I was is that NBC, ABC, CBS, and PBS where the one dial and higher up was Fox and WB.

Fox is Channel 11 'round these parts. Everything else was below that, with ABC being Channel 8. I can't say for sure what CBS and NBC were. We didn't get WB for the longest time. I only ever really recall watching Buffy on it, anyway. It might have been a higher-up channel though.

Fox was 43 and WB was 20 in Knoxville.

Wait, you guys were still using those old tvs when Fox and WB came into existance? I thought I was behind by not having a VHS player until 1989...

Fox could be whatever channel I wanted it to be, because I had to tune it in myself using the little nobs next to each number.

Whenever I say reel-to-reel player, people think I'm talking about something that's as real as real.

I was still using that old TV until about a year ago. The antenna however hasn't seen any use in years. :P

The first thing shouldn't be an "I'm old" moment unless you mean "older than 21."

I don't drink, but don't most beers have twist off caps anymore?

Mostly just the bigger breweries do that. As a craft beer snob, most of what I drink requires an opener. So if you have taste, you're going to need to know how to operate a bottle opener.

To tell you how it was until 2005 my Dad was still using that TV and it didn't even have Coaxial.  TO hook up the NES we had an antenna connector to coaxial adapter.

I'm guessing that if she does drink, she probably drinks the cheap stuff...

It all probably comes out of a can, a plastic bottle or a bag in a box.
