No joke.  He's actually dead.  Not that shocking but a bummer nonetheless.  The guy seemed like a real weirdo but you hoped he could get things back on track.

I wonder how this will affect his legacy?  Elvis' career was way past its best before date when he died but his death secured his legendary status.  Everyone seemed to forget about how screwed up he was at the end because he died young.  Michael Jackson might have the same fate.

I will miss Michael Jackson the musician. I will not miss Michael Jackson the skin-bleaching, child molester (that is the only negative thing I will say in this thread).

Technically he was never convicted of child molestation.  So it's not really fair to call him a child molester.  You probably wouldn't consider it right if you were accussed of a crime, were acquitted, but everyone looked down on you and assumed you were guilty.  That would suck.

Of course he was charged with the same crime twice and was clearly nuts so you never know.  Even if the guy was innocent he was just asking for trouble by hanging out with little kids all the time.

The sad part is that even if death people will be somewhat happy that the "child molester" is dead.

MJ lead a sad life. From childhood he was abused for the sake of fame by a man who was abusive. That played heavily into his weird attitude. People who survive a troubled childhood never come out right, and this is what happened to MJ. His views of reality got mixed with fantasy and thus we had a man who had an amazing talent and view on life but was disturbing and confused people.

He made some amazing music videos. I'll end this with a quote from Dave Chapelle....

"He made Thriller...THRILLER"

I came here to post the exact same thing. Say what you will about his private life, his music was the **** though. His was the first music i ever liked before really getting passionate about music, and his videos were part of his charm; there was no one else like him, and no one artist has really come close to be honest. His music was something that was enjoyed by almost everyone, no matter what backgrounds they came from or preference of music they had. He truley is the king of pop too, every pop artist to come after him is not even in the same league with Michael Jackson with their bastardized commercial music... damn shame too.

His poor kid(s).. is it odd to think they might have a stranger life now that he's gone?

they were talking about getting a free trip to see his upcoming london concert on the radio and in commercials non stop the last two or so weeks, i was listening to some of his music yesterday thinking I don't care what the man did, i wouldn't mind seeing him in concert sometime. Not going to happen now.

But to be honest, us black people have had this moment a long long time ago.
The Michael Jackson we all have grown up to has been gone for quite some time already.

But the kid is not my son

When I first read it, it was celebrity gossip site TMZ via Yahoo. I thought it was just erroneous reporting, but one hour later the major  news outlets confirmed it, I was stunned. I couldn't move for 30 minutes straight.  :'(

My uncle saw the Jackson 5 back in the day, and was a MJ fan ever since. I remember as a kid how he'd play the Thriller and Bad records (yes, vinly records!), going through MJ's moves and choreography.  That passion was then passed on to me.

Though for a long time, I couldn't never sit through the Thriller music video until I was 12. That transformation sequence still gives me small jump.  :-\

What else needs to be said? When music videos were in their infancy, Jackson elevated them to an art form. MTV owes a lot to him, since one could say he was the first real video star.

I thought we were going to have this conversation in 2029 or so  :( But with his frail health, maybe that was just too unrealistic.

I highly doubt we'll see a giga-star like him in our lifetime. Music has become so fractured, that they are few, if any acts/bands/singers that the majority of people the world over can get behind. I guess this will be one of those 'in my day' speeches we'll give to our children and grandchildren.

A sad day, indeed. MJ, despite his obvious societal and psychological problems, was the **** and no one could ever take that away from him. His music is classic and will forever be loved. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

So many of my favorite artists are dieing. James Brown, Isaac Hayes, now Michael Jackson....:(

Which part do ya mean?  You gotta remember "private life" is stuff at home when there are no paparazzi around.  Dangling baby?  That's public.  Walking around like a mummy?  Public.

I wish it were as simple as forgetting his weirdness and possible crimes and only thinking of the good times, but that weird image is too pervasive and I've seen it far longer than regular Michael Jackson, and I wasn't even alive during most of the Michael Jackson mania.  And in truth, I've never even been much of a pop music fan, so I really can't say I feel anything about this.

It's kinda like Farrah Fawcett, too.  Wasn't part of her popular mania either, never saw anything with her in it.  But I had heard of her cancer fight for 3 years and none of the biography news things they ran during the day mentioned any sort of baby-dangling or anything like that.  So I was like "Well damn that sucks."  With Michael Jackson, I'm like "Well maybe the paparazzi will get a new target."

Well i was talking more about his sleepovers and whether or no they were as innocent as he claimed, but i really don't wanna get into that.

I'm only 23 and i remember pretty much growing up during his stardom so i guess i can say i'm enough of a fan to care about this. His music is pretty timeless so he'll always live on thru that, my only hope is he'll be remembered for THAT legacy and not everything that came when his star faded.. Its just odd to me that there is a whole generation of people not that much younger than me who only know michael jackson as "the weirdo who looks like a white women" or whatever..

/sad

That is sad, because his music is not only timeless, but f'n incredible (up until his last 2 albums or so).

I remember when I was younger, I was allowed to listen to only two artist. & I only had 2 store bought tapes (yes youngins, I said tapes) and most the rest of my music was disney stuff on records (HOLY **** yes a fuckin record... imagine that... no I'm not that old you whippersnapper ;)) except I think I had Bad single on a record too

I had Michael Jackson Thriller(on the white cassette tape) & MC Hammer "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" (Can't Touch This).
To this day, those are still two of my favorite albums. I would always hope that MJ & MC Hammer would team up on a song.
It was a sad sad day in my house when my Thriller album got eaten by the tape deck. I pulled the tape apart, and repaired it with some scotch tape just so I could listen to it some more.

To this day, this is still one of my favorite songs:
"Wanna be startin' somethin'" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPTsmswQVwg)

A link to all his music videos:

I just listened to "The way you make me feel" (http://myplay.com/videos/michael-jackson/the-way-you-make-me-feel) for the first time in I don't know how many years, and it just gave my goose bumps all over. Actually watching the video, I have a huge grin on my face watching MJ chase down a lady.

CONSPIRACY THEORY:

What if this is all some elaborate publicity stunt. He makes us think he died but comes back in his Thriller (song) outfit, all zombied out, and throws on some huge public performance somewhere??

I don't know how it's possible but I don't think I've ever heard a Michael Jackson song the whole way through.

Maybe cuz when he was all over the radio, radio stations sucked (still do) and would start and end songs so you only really ever heard a freakin chorus. I hate when dj's fade out a song early and talk over the endings.. UGH

I.E. A generic pop song that was the failed attempt at a comeback. It sounded like it was from the 90s (and not in a good way) and nobody believed that a woman would rock Jackons world.

"Billie Jean" is easily his best song IMO, followed by "Beat It", "Smooth Criminal" and "Bad". "Black or White" wasn't bad either.

I loved MJ's music.  I remember being 5 and hearing the deep voice in the thriller song.  Scared the *** of of me, but I loved it.  That man WAS rhythm.  He was to music what Jordan was to basketball, strangely, they have the same initials.

Anyone remember how America freaked out after the Black and White video premier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UO_F3I9gJE)?  Silly Americans....

I think the big shock was that it was Michael Jackson of all people doing this, and that it was after such a peaceful music video that was being watched by many kids (Jackson was so popular at the time that the world premiere of the video was aired in primetime by FOX/MTV/VH1/BET simultaneously and got huge ratings).

A lot of people are buying his music, 9 of the Top 10 selling albums on iTunes are from Michael Jackson ("The Essential Michael Jackson" being #1) an 6 of the top 10 singles are his (for some reason "Man in the Mirror" is his highest selling song, at #2 on iTunes Top 10 singles), 8 of the top 10 music videos on iTunes are Jacksons ("Thriller" is #1) and he produced/sang on one of the other 2 songs ("We Are the World" by USA for Africa).

His kids won't be getting his debt. Besides, his estate owns his entire library plus a pretty large portion of The Beatles library, so that is a lot of royalties coming in (especially now that he is dead, tons of people are buying his music again).

I got nothin but love for the man (RIP MJ 1958-1995), but he was replaced by the body snatchers long ago.

And from I heard, it was mentioned on the news how MJ's oldest son isn't really his, confirming suspicions that lots of us had a long time ago; He married that lady because he wanted a kid and she was already pregnant.

Michael Jackson the musician might be, a lot of us can't stand Jackson the person. Whether it be the inappropriate interactions with kids (remember that interview with a British reporter where he said he dreamed of sharing his bed with other peoples children?), dangling his third kid over a balcony, or anything else. It was very easy to hate him.

It's never been confirmed that Michael was the biological father of Prince Michael or Paris (the two kids born to his second wife Debbie Rowe) and he has never claimed it. All Michael has said is that they were born the traditional way. His third kid (which he stupidly named Prince Michael II) was conceived by artificial insemination to a unnamed European woman, he claimed the semen was his.

A paternity test can resolve all this. But no doubt, if it turned out to be true, they would keep it under wraps.

IIRC, it was in the Martin Bashir documentary when Bashir asked about whether MJ wanted his children to follow his footsteps, he said something along the lines that if they were to do that, to do it better than he did. Wow...

I think it's been confirmed that Prince Michael and Paris are not his kids biologically (at least according to a journalist that appeared on "Countdown with Keith Olberman", who said she and many journalists actually know the identity of the biological father). Jackson claimed to be the biological father of Prince Michael II. I don't know if it matters much though since I think Jackson did legally become their parent.

MJ definitely lead a sad life.  He obviously had mental issues and couldn't handle the fame thrust upon him from a very early age.  I've never seen a celebrity who was less press-savvy...he never came to grips with how his actions and inactions would be perceived in the media.  He was off in his little bubble, and because of it eventually became a recluse.  He's the Howard Hughes of music in many ways.

Rest in peace, MJ.  You were, are, and forever will be The Man.

But he was also very inviting towards others (like the little boys) coming in his bubble too.

HEY! MEDIA! Leave those kids alone!

I hope the custody arrangements are quick and efficient. After that, the media needs to just #$#@ off and let those kids be.

It's not the media's fault that people are trying to take advantage of MJ's legacy and secrecy. Since nobody knows what the **** is really going on, you have hundreds of douchebags (mostly lawyers) trying to get a piece of the action. The media is trying to sort it all out.

Michael attracted most of the attention to his kids himself. Covering your kids head in veils and stuff like that is odd and just caused more attention. Also, it seems odd that the kids have apparently never gotten haircuts (Prince Michael II has hair that goes like halfway down his back and looks like a girl, same with the hair for Prince Michael).

How does the media play any part in sorting any of these issues out? Yes douchebag lawyers are what drag these things out but the media is just as bad if they start invading the privacy of the children (barely) involved in the case.

True but their father is obviously gone now, so he can't put them in the media spotlight (by accident or on purpose). All i'm saying is if the media wants to keep reporting on this, thats fine cuz its their right and their job BUT...

when the media starts harrassing the kids and whoever they end up with, they've gone too far (as they usually do). That is the sad truth of it.

I haven't seen what you mentioned (I don't watch a lot of day time TV), but I wouldn't doubt that they've gone too far, because they are notorious for doing so. Between the media and the douchebags, it just makes it even more sad.

as far as i know they haven't done anything, yet. I was merely agreeing with Djunknown that once these trials are over, the media should leave the kids be (though they shouldnt be hounding the kids during these trials anyway). If they wanna drag the story out and try to follow the MJ's doctor around, or the ex wives, etc, then whatever they're adults. Just leave the kids alone is what i'm saying and what many people told MJ to do as well lol

Well why the hell isn't he reporting on real news!?

It was a 2 minute segment out of a 2 hour show, calm down. It was what is called in news a "fluff piece", the lighter part of the news. Most of the show is spent on far more serious issues. It also wasn't an interview with Bubbles, it was an interview with the animal trainer who has taken care of Bubbles since Michael gave him up over 20 years ago (apparently Michael never bothered to come visit Bubble after giving him up).

I just wish they uploaded the entire show to iTunes (they condense it down to about 20-30 minutes, same thing with the iTunes version of Larry King Live).

AC is the ****.

His policy is to provide you all the facts and let you decide. That is why AC360 was the only non-bias show during the entirety of the political campaigns.

Also, his show had a week long special that dedicated 20 minutes of each program to "America's High: The case for and against pot". His program is the only one on any major news network to discuss it in such depth.

He's a pretty light-hearted person though in reality if you've ever seen him interviewed or appear on any other show across cable tv.

I hear he & Quincy Jones made like 300 songs for Thriller.
That will leave him a 2pac like back-catalog with enough material for random appearances on peoples albums for many years to come.
Maybe even a few new albums all on his own.

Nice, nice. I wonder if they'll still have the same magic though...

Would they take his vocals and rework the music tracks for a more mordern sound or will they try to keep whatever sounds they already laid down for a classic feel? I'd hate to hear that MJ has a new posthumous single out and hear it all auto-tuned to mimic todays pop musics obsession with it.

Why does everyone like auto-tune? I think it sounds terrible and I especially hate when Lil Wayne and Kayne use it.

It just gives people who can't sing the confidence to sing when they shouldn't be singing in the first place.

Some people pulled off auto tune nicely, but now its being overused by any&every1.
It needs to stop.

But for the record, I really liked Kanye's last album. At first I hated most of it, then it slowly grew on me.
I just hope he never does another auto-tune album again.

So how about the memorial service? It was nice to send Michael Jackson off in style. My favorite parts were Stevie Wonder, John Meyer, and Usher.

Also, Paris Jackson. Talk about guts. Even though she only spoke for like 12 seconds, the fact she wanted to let the whole world know how much she loved her daddy... No words. Just choked backed tears. :'(

You mean where were they in those intensely emotional and private struggles that Michael Jackson went through? Michael Jackson had a lot of friends, and it's unreasonable to suggest that they didn't care. I'd suggest and an incredibly shy person Michael just wanted a lot of space.

And to the suggestion that Michael's daughter Paris was exploited? Please. She wanted to speak. No-one pushed her to say anything, and I'm pretty sure her family was just as surprised as anyone that she wanted to speak up. It was a powerful, brave and moving gesture that she wanted to share.

You would put your Celebrity career at risk(endoresment, contracts, etc etc.), against the advisement of your publicist & agent, to publicly back a friend that was accused of felony level stuff?

I think private support and public silence is more than enough on the matter. Maybe a character statement*, but I wouldn't risk it all to show 100% friend loyalty just for the media's sake, and I don't think your friend in trouble would want that either.

What if it was a matter of anesthetic overdose to the point where they thought he was dead since they didn't hear a pulse. He was somehow in some sort of catatonic state of suspended animation. Then sometime after they declared him dead, he woke up. Realizing what they had already done, and how NOT having to be Wacko Jacko anymore felt lke someone took a huge weight off his shoulders, he told them to not correct the story.

Now he will have more plastic surgery to alter his face, then move to Las Vegas and live out the rest of his life as a the best damn Michael Jackson impersonator ever.

There are no murder charges. Homicide simply means a person was killed by a person, doesn't mean it was necessarily intentional, or that charges will be, or even can be pressed.

I figure it will end in a Malpractice & wrongful death suit. No time will be served, but that doctor will not practice medicine anymore.
