I'm not sure about this game: it looks fun but I don't feel paying 50 bucks for it.
Maybe a $29.95 tag would be ok? No, wait, $19.95 and I'll get it!

I have this game.

It's better than Zelda.

It also came with a music CD with some of the worst music ever. But also, better than Zelda.

do they really need to keep the ONeechanbara name on box?

I bet some retailers might be scared of that japanese name and thus order less, thus making it hard to find and causing horrible sales.

"Bikini Zombie Slayers" still gets the point across and its a new IP for America so why have the Oneechatever ?

I really don't think retailers care about that. The name's a pun anyway. What they might be more worried about is that the previous games in the series were in a shovelware series on the PS2.

Also a name like Oneechanbara is a much stronger trademark because it's not just a sequence of regular English words.

I seriously doubt the managers of Target, Best Buy, Gamestop will order many copies of this game because of that strange trademark. I do think they "Bikini Zombie Slayers" will grab peoples attention as they look around the shelf for a new game to buy. Gamers might see the japanese first part and feel totally intimidated and think its a japanese import. I bet people who do buy the game or rent it will not even bother to say the first word, so why even have it.

change the name of the game for the region . It's done all the time, Mario & Luigi games always have RPG at the end of the title to remind people its not a regular mario game. I think Resident Evil is more cool than Biohazard . etc etc

So you think they will order a game based on its name rather than, say, projected sales? Besides, without any "custom" words the title "Bikini Zombie Slayers" sounds shovelwarish. WTF are you on about with "Japanese import"? Have you seriously never looked at shelves? There's games with japanese names everywhere.

Boner-chanbara is Dynasty Warriors meets The House of the Dead.  An arcadey zombie splatter beat'em-up with an introductory budget price of USD$30.  Call within the next 2 minutes and our operators will give you a box of tissues FREE with two easy payments of $4.95 plus shipping.

In Dynasty Warriors, you're mainly required to tap a button, allowing you to fall asleep.  In Boner-chanbara, this is not the case.  Attacking is performed by rigorously shaking your Wii instrument vertically ("vertical waggle"), which means you will always be alert and at the same time exhausted.  It's a perfect companion to Wii Fit for maintaining a healthy Wii.

Remember to take breaks often, stay hydrated, and avoid using male enhancement supplements to aid your experience.  Known side effects include dizziness, soreness, increased heartrate, stroke, and cardiac arrest.  Ask your pharmacist for a brochure and see if this is right for you.

Here is a brief summary based on actual customer testimonial:

- Japanese voices only (hawt) w/ English subtitles
- Boob fizziks
- Rock solid 60fps, looks and moves better than most PS2 and Wii games.
- Focuses on straightforward mass-carnage gameplay featuring a couple dozen enemies in one room, while looking leagues better than Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop
- The zombies are visually a cross between Dead Rising 360 zombies and Castlevania 64 vampires.
- Default blood color is red (others: white, purple, green), main characters slowly get covered in bloody textures, and blood splatters on the screen which is a nice thought
- Better value than a used copy of Soul Calibur Legends
- Levels are divided into room-to-room checkpoints
- Character stats upgradable via point distribution system
- 2-player co-op is available for competitive scoring based on stages you've already played
- Includes Z-Lock-on, not always accurate if a trash bin or mailbox is between you and the enemy, preventing attacks from registering despite animating
- Fancier/better combos achieved by specific timing of waggle (still fairly rapid), analog stick direction also changes preset combo type (like Zelda)
- Enemies swing at you every other minute
- Some enemies block, you can kick with a Nunchuk waggle to break said block
- A traditional special attack is available which consumes some health
- Main characters have two stances, one requiring Remote-only waggle, the 2nd requiring Remote+Nunchuk dual-wielding simultaneous waggle, for greater wrist workout and bicep development.  Aya will use 2 swords instead of 1, for example.
- Main characters moves fast (slightly floaty?) and the framerate is fluid, leading you into a trance-like state where you're constantly waggling, covering yourself in blood, then immediately running looking for more targets to waggle in front of (until you need to catch your breath) -- this is the rythm of the game; because it's physical, it's somewhat like jogging where once you start, you don't seem to stop until you've run out of enemies.  The way the main characters animate and the way enemies explode (getting out of your way) minimizes delay, so there's little wait/effort in starting the next wave of waggle.  Previous beat'em-ups clearly differ when a crowd of enemies pose a credible threat to your health bar prompting you to run away and regroup a bit, or the walking animations are simply slow -- they provide moments to take a breather, and being button-based allows for that.  In Boner-chanbara, like Muramasa: The Demon Blade (where enemies seem to hardly hit you as well), you are a constant meat slicer.  If you're standing around waiting, you're simply not getting anywhere.
- "Ricky Bobby's not a thinker, he's a driver."
- For the critically-thinking-impaired, the game is ultra repetitive.  Also, it's a video game.  Also, video games are repetitive.  People play video games because there's certain kinds of repetition they like without faulting it or realizing it.  And this game burns calories.
- I could've described it as Soul Calibur Legends meets Dead Rising, but that would've given them too much credit.

This product is recommended in short bursts.  Beware of your glucose levels.

It's like a VC recommendation if you're interested in this type of arcade gameplay and the zombie aesthetic.  It is a competent product with mindless flare, but not a necessary experience (but why should I gage 'necessity' for someone else?)

You have to ask yourself, does the product perform a service you want?
[ex: For many, Wii Music does not.  The desire for fun through freeform music interaction/appreciation isn't there, unlike more common things as friendly competition via Mario Karting or health benefits via Wii Fit.]

Beyond statements of enjoyment, I leave out recommendations on purpose so you can answer that for yourself.

NinGurl, I like boobs. I also like boob physics. And I like them better when it's at a reasonable price. So, I have two questions:

1) Is the game, overall, enjoyable?
2) Are the boobs large and bouncy?
Title: Re: Oneechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers announced for US and PAL
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on February 13, 2009, 05:25:15 PM
I've only played an hour, 3 chapters worth.

1.  The game is enjoyable within its limited scope.  Like how Wii Tennis is only about Wii Tennis.  Here, you process rotten meat.
2.  The main character, Aya, decently large by real-life Japanese "video industry" standards.  She bounces with every step, but the camera is behind-the-back the majority of the time.  What's hilarious is her in-game model's bikini straps have fallen off her shoulders, yet her top continues to stick to her ornaments with vigilance.

Saki, Aya's younger half-sister, is lacking.  But she's still growing and features a schoolgirl uniform.  I haven't unlocked the other two characters, but I believe they are endowed and imaginative.

Ok, so Blockbuster got this game, but not House of the Dead Overkill. WTF? Idiots. So I rented this instead.

Its not bad. Not really good, but not bad. Boob physics are not as good as Bloody Roar's, they bounce forward instead of up and down. Its funny though.

Almost everything works, controls, graphics, the instructions on how to do moves are just screens with text, camera can suck sometimes. You have to be looking directly at a zombie to target it. You can be standing right next to one but if you are not staring at its rotten corpse you will not lock on.

If you want a fun rental, give it a shot. If you can find it for $20, go for it. Its like PN05, just replace guns and robots with swords and zombies.

Some tips: If you get too much gore on your sword, it looses its effectiveness and gets stuck in the zombies. If you use the special move, it takes away part of your life. And there are no refills in the levels. You just have to make it to the end of each one.

PN03 was a pretty skillful and tactical game, Oneechanbara sounds like a pretty simple and mindless game?

I don't know. I would say that on the harder difficulties you would have to plan your attack on a mob of zombies. You have some evade moves that need to be gotten used to, not as easy to pull off as in PN03, but the foundation is there.

That and if you stand still in both games they move to the same beat ;)

Some tips: If you get too much gore on your sword, it looses its effectiveness and gets stuck in the zombies. If you use the special move, it takes away part of your life. And there are no refills in the levels. You just have to make it to the end of each one.

I didn't notice any life drain on the special move.  Or are you talking about the slow drain resulting from going into rage mode?  But if you pause using the 2 button you can use any life orbs you've collected, so there IS a way to replentish life.

Oh, and my local Blockbuster has the X360 Onechanbara but not the Wii one.  Lame.

So long story short; its the type of game you love or hate but you won't know until you try it for yourself.
