Title: Scarface on Wii, confirmed?
Post by: NWR_pap64 on January 26, 2007, 06:35:11 AM
NOTE: I know this is yes another thread I've made, but this is some pretty big news so I can't help but post it here.

NGamer has confirmed through their cover story that Scarface has been confirmed for the Wii.

Here's the scan.

I don't know if this is real or not, but this is some interesting news. Last I heard Scarface was a solid/decent GTA clone, and Scarface is one of those franchises that people NEVER expected to pop up on a Nintendo console. I mean, the movie is constantly quoted, made fun of and re-enacted in many adult comedy shows, through merchandise at Hot topic and many more. Scarface is indeed a popular adult franchise, and seeing a NINTENDO console getting it sure can be refreshing.

We got the Godfather, now we might be getting Scarface. Could this lead to GTA Wii? Time will tell...

I'm more curious about whether or not "Wii Sports League" is an actual game or something the magazine made up...

Considering the type of game it is (a GTA clone based on a movie franchise), an overall 77% rating is pretty good.

But again, I haven't played the game. I just heard from my friends and forums that the game was at least a decent clone till GTA 4 is released.

More than likely it's just an article about how people are forming leagues and tournaments to play Wii Sports.  I think EGM had a similar article a month or so ago.

Here are some new details:
Shooting – a key part in most missions – is mapped on to the remote pointer, with players able to direct the aiming reticule around the screen, leaving a trail of Miami dead in its path. Moving your hand to direct Tony’s gun while your body remains still captures Montana’s steadfast mentality perfectly, that stubborn determination to stand his ground – an anchor with an AK.”

“The famous filmic image is of Tony standing in his office doorway, legs wide open, determinedly bolted to the floor with his “little friend” the M16 held firmly in his hands. On the Wii, players will be able to adopt this pose, spraying bullets as one with Montana – gaming and filmic iconography merged into one.”

“And what would Scarface be without that very implement that left said face scarred in the first place? If Resident Evil 4’s bag-wearing chainsaw jugglers got your gore-loving synapses firing, wait until you rev Scarface’s flesh munching baby into action. Chainsaw waving is directed with the remote, lopping heads clean off with a high swipe, or using more choppy motions to re-enact everyone’s favourite Monty Python and the Holy Grail Black Knight arm-putation moment. To add a cherry to the viscera flavoured cake, the remote speaker will even growl like a saw so as not to bring you out of the moment. Lovely.”

I get the sinking feeling this will be the PS2 version with waggle.

Also an interesting fact is that there was supposed to be a 360 release of Scarface but apprently Sierra canceled that version and moved it to the Wii.

You say waggle like it was a bad thing, That "waggle" just mey make the game more fun to play.

I shure hope they add extra features like the Godfather so it can stand out a little more.  Other than that I'm excited.  It's games like these that mey make it so developers decide to bring more mature content to the wii, I mean it has a parental feature so they can't sue.

GTA for the wii is looking more and more realistic every day.

BUMP!

Sorry for bumping this, but Games radar has posted some impressions of Scarface Wii and they were very impressed.

5 reasons why porting Scarface on the Wii was worth it

That's actually how they named the article, and from what I read, they were impressed with how the game was progressing and loved the controls (they detailed how controlling the chainsaw feels really good).

Could Scarface be a lot like the Godfather in that the Wii controls actually make the game better than its earlier versions?

Well if what they say is true, I see no reason to doubt that the Wii controls will add to this game. What I especially like about this hands-on report is that visuals are BETTER than the Xbox version with more people, and a more consistent framerate.

At least it is nice to see games coming to Wii now where the developers are actually putting effort in them, even if they are ports in a sense. Hopefully this trend will continue to evolve as companies get more comfortable, and hopefully we will see some big budget exclusive Wii games.

My fantastic experience with Godfather: BlackWaggle edition so far has me extra intrigued about this game. I want more well done sandbox!

Has anyone played this on the PS2/Xbox/PC ? How does it compare to the Godfather?

They gave Scarface an 8.5.

I finally got a chance to sit down and play Scarface: The World Is Yours. I honestly won't have an opinion either way until I can really get familiar with controls. Until then, I will continue to have camera problems (the camera moves with the Wii-Mote) and a pointer which goes out of range. I didn't get all too far (not far enough to save), but it looks pretty good for what we've seen from the Wii thus far. I went into this game thinking that it would play similarly to The Godfather: Blackhand Edition and from the short time I've spent with it, it feels completely different.

So far, the game is quite entertaining. During the initial training mission, I was LOL when I saw "left nut" appear on the screen and I realized that is where I had just shot an enemy. Great stuff. At this point, I'd say if this game appeals to you, it's probably worth your money. If you're on the fence wait until a few others get to play it and post additional impressions. I'll probably play (and post about it) again tomorrow night. Sorry I can't be any more definitive.

So far...hmmm...so far the game feels a little more on rails than Godfather...but it definitely feels a bit too early for me to post official impressions...

I've put in approx. 2 hours on the game...

The production values for the title are definitely top notch...the opening credits makes me feel like I'm playing something special...especially with the non-stop music artists it had scrolling for a while.  The game is definitely not for the kids to be around...

The graphics are better than Godfather's...but so far...it is definitely early for me...I need to come to grips with the controls that sometimes is going all over the place...the camera moves with the cursor and can get stuck...luckily you can Z-target...

Folks...don't make my mistake...you can Z-target...it s'okay...s'okay mang...

I just got it, played for a good half-hour. I like what I've played so far. It's too bad it has PS2 GTA3 graphics, I really think Godfather looks A LOT better than Scarface. The production value is very good though. I've got a feeling a lot of people will love this game, but then when Manhunt 2 is released, they'll stop playing it.

Brandogg...you don't think the graphics are better than Godfather's...I'd better boot up Godfather again to take a second look.  The environments don't look bland...and actually look better in 480p.  My only grip with 480p is that some of the faces get little grainy holes in them in some of the cut scenes...like in the club at the beginning.

I'm sure some will boo-hoo this, but during one of IGN's interviews, the developer stated that they were a notch above Xbox and just below the PC with the graphics. The best thing Godfather had going for it (graphics-wise) was the partical effects. Everything else is passable.
Title: RE: Scarface on Wii, confirmed?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on June 15, 2007, 08:34:24 AM
I don't know. The backgrounds in Scarface are a lot better, but the fire/blood/particle effects, as well as the character models (aside from Tony Montana - he looks fantastic) were way better in Godfather.

I just got it and played about 15 minutes and I too had a control problem.  I immediately changed my camera to advanced and it's much better.  It works just like a mouse basically.  The camera moves where you aim, but if you have the setting on the easiest setting, it moves less, feeling more like a light gun game.   The bounding box is bigger so you can aim within the screen a good amount before pushing the camera left or right(like Red Steel) If you change the setting to expert, it moves a little too fast for me right now.  So I am sticking with advanced for the time being.  I'll post later after I play more.
Title: RE: Scarface on Wii, confirmed?
Post by: BranDonk Kong on June 15, 2007, 04:04:20 PM
It basically plays exactly like Max Payne on the PC, accept you use the Wiimote instead of a mouse. I think that's the most accurate description for the controls (on foot) that you can have.

The game is not too forgiving if you don't complete a mission...there are no halfway points...but I guess you have to learn the timing of every level.

I got a chance to sit down a play a bit more yesterday. I put about 90 minutes into it (got to the bank). The other day, I kept getting killed in the hedge maze during the very first mission. I finally found the path out of it, LOL. I'm still not in love with the controls, but I'm getting used to them. I think I like the "advanced" camera setting best.

This game in many respects kicks Godfather's ass.

However, the hand-to-hand combat in Godfather is still better.  Nothing like grabbing someone and choking them out.

Gunplay is about the same.

Scarface separates itself from Godfather because there's just so much more to do.  The RPG elements are deeper.  The fact that using a boat gets you around faster is even better.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Godfather's RPG elements of taking over the rackets, but it got too monotonous.  There were a few warehouses...but even those became boring and more of the same.

The environments in Scarface are better because there's much more variety.  There's a shitload of alleyways to duck into...even with a vehicle...

That's it for now...

Don't forget to use a bank to save your progress...

Ba-da-bump you Cock-A-Roaches!

Finally gave this game a rental, me and a couple buddies played it for about 4 hours tonight. Fun game, graphics are nice, level of detail in the missions is good. Controls aren't bad, took a little getting used to. It has an inevitable comparison to Godfather, and it holds up well in many respects. I donno, this may be worth picking up for the Wii, but probably not for awhile too many other great games coming soon.

Godfather was really great. I don't really like the GTA games (at least GTAIII and Vice City as the ones I've played) They're okay, but I never had the desire to finish them.

I think what appeals to me in the Godfather and Scarface is the empire building and character customization. Plus they don't seem to have as big of emphasis on driving and since I don't like most timed races that's a good thing.

Scarface does have nicer graphics and music than Godfather.

I love driving games, party of what I miss from the GTA series because driving in games really lets me feel like I can let loose.  However, I still love the godfather and I think the empire building has EVERYTHING to do with it.

Nah the driving is the best part. It's the frustrating and glitchy missions that suck.  They begin around "R" chapter if you know what I mean.
