3DS Ambassador GBA Games Delayed Until 2012?

Players hoping to play classic Game Boy Advance games on the 3DS might have to wait a little... UPDATE: or not.

The free Game Boy Advance games promised to early adopters of the 3DS (known as Ambassadors) may be delayed into 2012, according to information from conflicting Nintendo of Europe pages.

Different language versions of the 3DS Ambassadors page on the Nintendo of Europe site give conflicting details on the arrival of the games. The Spanish and German sites say that the games will not arrive until next year, while the English, French, Dutch, Italian, and Portuguese sites claim this year for delivery. The pages were all updated on October 14, so there is a good chance the later date is due to a translation mistake.

The Game Boy Advance games were promised to be released near the end of the year. The first batch of Ambassador games, the NES titles, have already been made available.

The following games have been confirmed to be part of the lineup:
- Mario Kart: Super Circuit
- Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
- Metroid Fusion
- WarioWare, Inc: Mega Micro Game$
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong

The remaining five have not yet been announced.

Update: The Spanish and German pages have been updated to match the other language versions, confirming that the original translation was a mistake. Nintendo UK also reiterated that the titles will be arriving this year.

Aww, hell no.

DiscostewNovember 30, 2011

I hope broken promises come with more freebie games.  :P

BlackNMild2k1November 30, 2011

Free VB games maybe?

TrueNerdNovember 30, 2011

I just swore loudly.

nickmitchNovember 30, 2011

I hope you said, "Excuse me."

Bman87301November 30, 2011

Wow... I so called this yesterday.

Jet PilotNovember 30, 2011

For crying out loud...these are ROM DUMPS.  Give us the effing games Nintendo.

mematman15November 30, 2011

DAMNIT NINTENDO  :@

leahsdadNovember 30, 2011

I have my kids around me right now, so I'm trying my darndest to hide my incredibly sense of disappointment.

TJ SpykeNovember 30, 2011

It sounds like at most it might just be delayed in certain countries, if at all.

Jet Pilot, I may be wrong but I am pretty sure Nintendo said they would be adding stuff to the GBA games. So they are not just "ROM dumps".

2 words:

OCCUPY NINTENDO

ejamerNovember 30, 2011

I'm really looking forward to the GBA games, but wouldn't be that upset if they are delayed. As long as they arrive eventually and don't have any quality issues then waiting a few extra weeks - even months - isn't the end of the world.

nickmitchNovember 30, 2011

It's not like we're hurting to find games to play on the 3DS right now, but it does kind of sting to learn we might have to wait a bit longer. It just feels like we've been lied to a little bit.

motangNovember 30, 2011

Ah phooey, that sucks!  :@

Conflicting information!

Maybe the games will be out in December, maybe not. Maybe they will be divided into multiple releases and we'll only start getting GBA games in December. Guess we'll have to wait to find out more. Ten GBA games sure would be a great Christmas present though.

Hopefully people don't get too upset or worried in the meantime.

MOTHERFUC... Wait, these games are free. I'll be just fine.

Free?  I payed $88.02 at least for these games...  We are getting 20 games total so thats $4.41 per game.

According to Official Nintendo Magazine, the GBA games will still be coming by the end of the year (at least in Europe). Check the post here. I think this bodes well for the US... though the past year's events (Xenoblade and its ilk) might shake my confidence a bit until there's an official US confirmation. I'd settle for a bit more info on the remaining five mystery games... even a hint would be nice. :)

You might have. I didn't. I got the Ambassador Games and the price cut. Boom. Roasted.

By the way, we've been waiting from an official response from NoA. We'll post it when we get it.

If they do arrive in 2011, it'll be on December 31, at 11:59 PM.

I'm figuring NOA likes to F*** with us, so they will hold the U.S. release til Dec 2012, and point us to
all the great Wii titles coming out the 1st half of 2012..oh, wait..*scratches head*.
Yea, so NOA will give us  (in the U.S.) the GBA games, then 1 week later make them all
available to the general public. for buy 1 get one free. with improved functionality. and......

CericDecember 01, 2011

You have to consider it a marketing fail when your biggest fans are really cynical of one of your brands, in this case NoA.

Well, considering the aggressiveness from all of us, Nintendo of America damn well better think before they speak. Hopefully it's not another "love ya guys, but fuck all y'all. Xenoblade and shit ain't never coming here!"

More of a PR fail, really.

Honestly, the sooner the release these GBA games the better. It kills me to see flyers and ads with stores selling the 3DS at $130.00 and I went and bought the system full price at launch. I just did not expect to see a Nintendo platform drop in price that much in under a year.

The NES games are whatever. I don't find much worth in them aside from a couple classics. I've never been a big NES fan and the only NES games I ever want to play now and then are the Mario games, Zelda 1 and Duck Hunt.

But the GBA games have some value. Most of the games announced I own. That said, I do like the convenience factor of not having to pop in different cartridges to play them again. It's ridiculous that we still don't have a full lineup of games announced at this point. How long does it take to figure out another 5 games to offer? It just adds fuel to the fire that Nintendo doesn't care about making it up to the customers that did adopt early.

Now it's true. They don't have to. But this experience has made me question buying other Nintendo systems early. And if more of your consumers think that way, it's damaging to your overall business because it depends on more people buying your hardware so that you can sell more of the software that goes with it. If everyone takes a wait and see approach on their next hardware release, it is going to crash and burn.

It's great they offered this stuff as a sort of apology. It's just a shame they are now screwing up the apology.

CericDecember 02, 2011

Yeah, the steep price cuts make me worry about the next system.  I was banking on Nintendo keeping the same price for 2 or so years at least.

nhainesDecember 02, 2011

The German page says the GBA VC games will become available "ab dieses Jahr", which means "within the year."

Yes, the Spanish and German pages have been changed to say this year now.

Yeah, same here. It was a huge mistake. Just be glad that you've played some 3DS games because I still haven't bought any.

Mop it up, you need to go out and buy Super Mario 3D Land right now. It's one of the best games in the series.

Mop it upDecember 03, 2011

Trust me, I want to, but I just don't have the money right now due to several unseen events that I'd rather not get into. I'm hoping for Christmas with that one.
