Shigeru Miyamoto confirms Pikmin's fourth instalment is in still in development.

Pikmin 4, which was absent at this years E3, is "progressing", legendary Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto said.

In an interview with Eurogamer's Tom Phillips, Miyamoto says that the Pikmin 4 project is still in development, though he couldn't say much more at the moment.

"I've been told not to share anything about this from PR," Miyamoto told him, "but I can tell you it is progressing."

A fourth entry in the long running Pikmin series was first discussed by Miyamoto back in 2015 in an interview with Eurogamer. Hey! Pikmin, a side scrolling game for the Nintendo 3DS, is due for release July 28th.

Well, at least it clears up some confusion people had about whether "Hey! Pikmin, Listen!" was what Nintendo meant by Pikmin 4 or if it was in reference to another game in the mainline series.

Whew! I was getting worried about it when there was no peep.

Why did Miyamoto say way back in September 2015 that the game was almost done?

I remember we got similar comments about Pikmin 3 seemingly every E3 for years.  If this follows the same pattern Pikmin 4 may end up on the Switch successor.

Perhaps the game's tea table was upended? More than once, even?

He was actually referring to the title screen.

If I had to guess, that was probably true at the time, but when they moved it from Wii U to Switch they decided to tweak a few things while they waited for it to come out, and then that snowballed and resulted in further delays. I have nothing to back that up, but it's a believable explanation, especially for a game Miyamoto has his hands in.

Maybe it was a mistranslation and he was referring to Pikmin 4 3DS.

Or Pikmin 4 had to be heavily overhauled without the Wii U gamepad.
