Things get spooky with this week's Hallow-eShop update.
Welcome, my friends, to this, your Hallow-eShop update! Below you'll read about all the latest spooks and scares Nintendo and friends have conjured up for you. Well, only two games are decidedly Halloween themed (Castlevania: The Adventure, and Ghosts 'n Goblins). But, you know, NightSky is dark and night-y. Mutant Mudds stars a bunch of mutants freaks. Liberation Maiden? I think a lot of (dumb) folks are scared about a women in power. As for Layton, many would agree that Luke's voice is pretty horrifying. It's all treats and no tricks this week, that's for certain.
eShop Games:
Mutant Mudds - Free Update
Mutant Mudds gets 20 levels richer today. If you've beaten the game in its entirety, secret doors have been strewn about existing levels, leading to new areas that are only playable with Grannie. She employs all three of the game's power-ups, but don't start thinking anything is getting easier. Grannie has the fight of her life ahead of her.
NightSky - $9.99
Nicalis brings another PC indie favourite to the eShop, this time casting you in the role of....some thing and rolling across silhouetted landscapes, solving the physics puzzles that impede you. The game has been a long time coming for Nintendo fans, it was originally scheduled as a WiiWare title before its move to eShop. See what Neal has to say about the title in his review.
Liberation Maiden - $7.99
Grasshopper Manufacture's Goichi Suda teams up with Level-5 to deliver Liberation Maiden, a third-person shooter that tasks the new Prime Minister of Japan to protect her people. Take to the skies in you Liberator, a mech suit designed to wreak havoc on invading enemies.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - Downloadable Course Packs #4 and #5 - $2.50 each/ $5 bundle
Still aching for gold? Well Nintendo's got the cure for what ails ya! Step right up and witness the latest and greatest in Coin Rush. First up is Pack #4 known as the Gold Mushroom Pack. The levels are easy, and you'll rack up coins like a mother. Next is Pack #5, also known as Coin Challenge Pack B. This one is of medium difficulty, but allows you to compete with players across the world through the NSMB2 website's leaderboard.
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - $39.99 (available October 28)
Don't let the Mask of Chaos fall into the wrong hands! Explore the town of Monte d'or as Layton, and unravel the mystery of the mask alongside your faithful sidekicks Luke and Emmy. With over 100 puzzles, it won't be easy. But a gentleman like yourself should not have a problem. Layton's adventures don't stop there though, every day for a year a new puzzle will be made available for download. Grab your tallest hat, friend, it's going to be a puzzle-y ride.

Castlevania: The Adventure - $3.99
Poor Chris Belmont has to fight evil, but if he only knew it was all for not. Shame, really. Set centuries before the first Castlevania, The Adventure has Chris fight for his life across four stages. But really, he could have stayed home if it all didn't matter. Dracula will just come back anyways. Plus, he has to do it all without any sub-weapons, making things way worse for poor 'topher.
Ghosts 'n Goblins - $4.99
Yes, its Ghosts 'n Goblins aesthetics that land it here on this Halloween themed eShop update. Cemeteries, ogre, boxer shorts, all terrifying things, yes. But, it's GnG's difficulty that is truly frightening. Take control of the brave knight Sir Arthur and rescue Princess Rin Rin from the clutches of Satan himself. Battle creatures, all while battling your odd three-minute-lifespan of a heart. Fail, and feel the frustration of retrying it all over and over again!

So a wizard, a treasure hunter, and a knight walk into a dungeon. The monster in the dungeon say, "Get out of here! And if you stay, at least don't attack me all at the same time!" The three obliged, since this is a turn-based strategy RPG after all. "How many dungeons do you suppose there are?" the knight asks. "Eighteen," the wizard replies. "Must get repetitive then. eh?" says the treasure hunter. "Nah," retorts the wizard, "everything is randomly generated. So let's be on our way."
