Super Paper Mario Rescheduled

Mario's last hurrah on GameCube is now coming out in April -- for Wii.

Fans have been rabid for Super Paper Mario ever since it sneaked into Nintendo's press materials at E3 2006. The game is a new Mario platformer with 2.5D gameplay using the same flat paper style as the Paper Mario RPGs.

Though originally planned for GameCube, the title disappeared from release lists toward the end of 2006, and all signs pointed to it being ported over to Wii. Now, the April issue of Nintendo's official magazine, Nintendo Power, says the game will indeed debut on Wii in April 2007.

The magazine mentions that the game is broken into chapters (much like the other Paper Mario games) and that each chapter introduces new platforming elements that revolutionize the genre. They also note that the game's visuals have been dramatically improved since the E3 showing (and, presumably, since the playable demo at last year's World Hobby Fair).

About damn time.

I'm secretly hoping they didn't spend alot of that time retooling it with Wii specific controls, and we can just play it old school with a sideways wiimote.

When I saw the headline I thought it meant it was rescheduled from the April date - ie: delayed. Boy was that a scare for a second there.

Actually, Ian, it WAS delayed...

The game will now be released in April 2007. Don't believe me? Check the first post.

Shouldn't that be "Mario's last 'woo-hoo' on GameCube"?

Mario's last "yah-hee!"

This game was originally supposed to come out in October 2006 in Japan. Then it had no release date. Now it has a release date in April 2007. That's called a delay.

Bill AurionJanuary 24, 2007

Uh, I don't know if pap and Jonny are being sarcastic, but Ian meant that he was worried the game was delayed AGAIN from the April date, which is what I was thinking as well when I saw the topic title...

TrueNerdJanuary 24, 2007

Sonic and the Secret Rings + SSX Blur + Super Paper Mario = No Wii drought!

Still think the game's sales figures are going to be hurt by the delay/platform switch Jonny?

NinGurl69 *hugglesJanuary 24, 2007

Developing for a Nintendo platform hurts game sales.

KlapauciusJanuary 25, 2007

I'm dissapointed its not going to be on Gamecube. Predicatable, but still dissapointing.

Eh, saves me buying another memory card. Both of my 251s are filled to the brim.

We know that this news was making the rounds on the Internet before we got it up... we just weren't quite ready to trust the original "I saw NP early" source until we had the mag in our hands to confirm.

Ian and Bill make it sound like the date was common knowledge before we posted the story, and that's why the headline was misleading.... =P

KDR_11kJanuary 25, 2007

I didn't even know about the date but I did think April was the date it had before an additional delay.

Bar the reason, it was still misleading...I'm sending my next hospital bill to you, Pale, after my next heart attack! =)

Will this be the game that causes Ian to break down and buy a Wii? We'll find out.

"Ian and Bill make it sound like the date was common knowledge before we posted the story, and that's why the headline was misleading"

It was only misleading to me because I knew the news anyway. That's just what first popped into my head when I first read it. But overall the headline is fine because for someone who only reads NWR and doesn't come on the forums that headline makes perfect sense.

Ian's celebrity status will determine whether the wii is an arousing success or not.

That's what you get when NWR news is two days late..

Sometimes I wish the original source would be wrong on some of these high profile spreadings... face-icon-small-wink.gif

Hey wait, the more i think about it, there was one.... A while ago didn't someone spread that an issue of Nintendo Power confirmed some VC title, and then it turns out that the article just said something along the lines of "It would be really cool if we could bring such and such to the VC" er something like that? Hmm...

Yeah that was the Commodore 64 rumor.
